  • ...(cont) Sorry, ran out of space.

Dr Crossman mentioned, and showed a map of a string of proposed islands that were to be constructed between Strawberry I. and Motor I.

Whatever happened with that and what group was behind the project ?

Good luck out there fellas, glad to see the NMA still going strong !!!

-Catch and release keeps muskie fishing alive-

  • @DanOblacksmith Hi Dan. Tony or Tom might remember. Curious that Canadian Biologists would promote a NYS habitat project.

Some of the Deepwater work has been completed. There is a project proposal for the Strawberry area, and there is funding in place as well. I don't know the timetable.

These days, principal players are NYPA, NYSDEC, Buffalo Niagara Riverkeepers, and the NMA

  • I have a question for the guys in the NMA- I was a member back in the early '90s before I moved from the Buffalo area to the southern tier so making the meetings wasn't an option, second year of the club I think. (Nucherino's restaurant ?)

We had a meeting where Dr. Ed Crossman and EJ Robinson came down from the Royal Ontario Museum and gave a great talk on a very in depth aquatic study that had been done on the Strawberry Island area of the river.

In that talk proposed islands were mentioned...

  • Jim, Just got this message. When is the next meeting?

  • @Gixxermxz800 Meetings are the First Tuesday of every month. Hope to see you there.

  • Hey Jim, I have had a GREAT year with bass. I'm starting to struggle a little now though. I like to get out at least two times a week and seems like ever since Sept. came around I have had no luck. Jim, is there a way I might be able to talk with you via e-mail? Just looking for some tips for this time of year. Thank you Jim!

  • @Gixxermxz800 : Better than that, tonight 9/7/10 is a meeting of the Niagara Musky assoc. at the Nights of Columbus, 55 Main Street, city of Tonawanda at 7 pm. Some of the rivers very best anglers usually attend, Capt. Larry, Tony S, the Red Oct. Bait guys, and more. I'll be there as well, although i do most of my fishing with the Camera these days. Come on Down, you Will like the people you meet there!

  • Hey Jim, Nothing so far this summer in the muskie category. Still fishing right off my dock on West river road in GI. Any tips for dock/wadding this time of year?

  • @Gixxermxz800 Shore fishing for muskie is tough this time of year. I have been seeing a lot of good sized smallmouth in the river. You might be able to get into some of them from the dock.

  • i sometimes go to the power authority platform and i see muskie and gar any tips because im 13 and really thinking of becoming a pro angler

  • @MaXsNiipEZ33 - It's dfficult to make a living at fishing. As you are in the Lewiston area, you might be able to get a summer job as a hand on a salmon boat on lake Ontario in a couple years. You could learn a lot.

  • @jimkinner thnxs i might think about it

  • I live north of Beaver Island on the west river, Right on top of the Fix road over pass. I've been fishing for bass there my whole life...this year my main goal is to catch and release one of these big girls. Seeing that im shore bound 9/10 times is there any chance of me getting one on my home turf?

  • @Gixxermxz800 - Over the years, I've caught several around Beaver island State park. Some were within a reasonable wade from shore. Opening day is the best time for this area.

  • The west side of the channel seems better to me. If you are shorebound, the area where the black rock canal meets the river is good late in the season. Most of the better water is out in the middle. Another exception would be the Huntley plant discharge. Thanks for subscribing.

  • Great video i do alot of pike fishing bewteen rich marina down to the foot of sheridan. The lighthouse infront of riverside park is great for pike. seeing as you dive in that area any good spots i should be aware of for some nice muskie. Also how is the stucture between the channel and shore. is it mixed preety good.?? thanks for the great video

  • wow that is one of the best vids online i have seen on musky. puts my musky vids to shame. MN waters are too stained to get good underwater video most of the year. awsome. i might have to visit.

  • Oh, also, you can sink a ship anywhere you want. Just get a couple bottles of Jack Daniels.

    DONT FORGET TO FIGURE 8!!!

  • I've snorkeled on the east side of Strawberry Island and they are certainly there around some of the wood beams. Biggest Musky i've ever seen was by Smith Boys on Tonawanda Island in the swift current. He must have been 50+lbs and probably close to 5' long. I think I almost lost my mind seeing that fish swim on the surface in front of me and I was nowhere near equipped for that. Believe it or not, i've caught a few nice Muskies in Ellicott Creek. Who would have thought?

  • This video is great, but I'd recommend you get someone with a slightly less monotone voice do the narrating.

  • it doesnt matter how many articles i read if il try out my self it will explain alot to me

  • i've read so many magazines and books but just seeing the fish underwater adds so much to my understanding. Thanks

  • great video!!

  • I always go in the river never got a muskie or pike but my brother alaways says "we need to go to strawberry island for pike and muskie. Another good place to scoba dive is small boat harbor in may... pike are like abundant there. check out some fish pictures at sandersfishingguides. com

  • Very nice work and goodluck!

  • Great footage and like someone already mentioned, very educational. Keep up the good work!

  • Strong work Jim!

  • Well done Jim. Those arte some awesome videos. I've heard a lot about your work, but this is the first time I've got to view any of it. I am impressed. Back in the 70's and 80's I always said I could learn a lot about this fish if I took up SCUBA. Thanks, Mike

  • !00% Amazing!!!! Everyone that see this will definitely be educated. I'll buy some DVD copies please. This is exciting what a fantastic job.

    Well Done mr Kinner.

I'll get you a brown pop for this footage..

    Many smiles... THANK YOU!!!!
