Everybody laughed at Sondral's 10k in Milwaukee in 2000. No harm in trying something outside the box. Besides I think he is not loosing pressure on the straights, he is loosing pressure in his corners.
Schneider used an ordinary technique when skating the 5K at the Olympic Winter Games. His time wasn't anywhere near his personal best (6.39.29), but at least it was a lot better than this... and he kept three others (Luca Stefani, Robert Lehmann, Shigeyuki Dejima) behind him.
Deden wij voor het klapschaats tijdperk bij de trainingen ook wel eens. Om zodoende de zijwaartse afzet beter onder de knie te krijgen en niet zoals vele beginners doen, met de punten afzetten.
No, the commantery says he actually wanted to experiment. They actually quote his coach saying "either everyone laughs or everyone skates this way next week".
Why would he think that that would work!?

He had been training on this technique all summer. It was an experiment. But it failed.
Anyone knows if he still uses this technique or does he skate normal now?

No, that's not a double push, a true DP with outside edge pressure at speed absolutely does not work on ice...
I know roger, and have raced with him in the other lane. he is a hardworking dude.
My guess is that he had some injury that made the pressure of the straightaway push impossible. Or maybe he was trying an experiment.
It's Olympic year though, skaters are amped to go fast... so I think an injury is more likely...

I think he tried to do the double push as it is known in the inline skating sport.
