  • You should REALLY put down static resistant foam *Most Motherboards come with it) and a static proof bag (The Silver ones, not the pink ones which are only static 'resistant') when you work on static sensative components.

  • what is the noise level in db ?

  • @PeikkoKuningas95 Hard to say. I couldn't tell you and the website doesn't have this model anymore. But I'm sure it's well under 20db under normal use. The newer model says it's 0.3 Sone. Not sure what that is in db but I'm pretty sure this one is also 0.3 Sone if that helps.

  • @MN12BIRD The Twin Turbo uses 80 mm fans The newer Twin Turbo Pro uses 2x 92 mm fans and with a cooling capacity of 120 watts. The even newer Twin Turbo 2 has 92 mm fans but has a cooling capacity of 250 watts. The pro has 4 heat pipes and the TT2 has 5. the TT2 Has a slightly bigger heatsink allso :)

  • This apparently works really good with the 6990

  • Mine Idles at 60 I've seen it do 110 degrees under load :(

  • Stock fans all suck no matter how cool they look or what the maker claims! Arctic now has the Accelero Twin Turbo II's which support the latest cards. They make the best VGA coolers around and plus you don't need a fan controller. Most cooler makers require you to buy a fan controller because they're to cheap to put a proper connector. I have 2 Asus HD 69050's DirectCU II's and the cooler sucks! I'm buying two of those fans soon.

  • @sorianflorin i mean black screen.

  • oh lol sorry forgot to say good vid hahahahaha

  • naw sorry if this sounds werd mate but you sound rely cute... sorry if your strate but any ways nice your pritty cool love your acent

  • im running a sli 560 ti and the top card hits 55-60c... but theyre loud. im seriously thinking of getting this cause i have almost a dead silent pc... except the cards are loud. i just tested and theyre 50db.... little to loud for me. thanks for the video

  • do you know if this fits on a MSi R6570 Md1GD3?

  • It was a jet engine before lol :P

  • hi i have a problem vith my 4870 ati im geting this card from 2008 and now in games apears some coloured points and sometimes freeze why? and sometimes in you tube when i start to warch a viseoclip freeze and apears lines and points ,coloured , why? can u help pls?

  • @sorianflorin it means your gpu is overheating. Go repair your card from amd i had the same problem before. I remember the screen having blue dots, then the number and frequency increasing until blue screen.

  • @sorianflorin Put in oven. Bake.

  • Didn't that hurt!?

  • Haha my stock cooler gets 95 degrees ingame and about 12,000 RPM! LOL

  • damn, even my gtx 580 isn't that loud even with stock cooling, i have now watercooled my gtx 580

  • Would this cooler work for the HD 6970?

  • @shinymcshineshine Honestly I have no clue

  • @shinymcshineshine No it won't, but the ARCTIC COOLING ACCELERO XTREME PLUS II will fit on the 6970 without any mod, you just need to buy the Extreme plus II, nothing else

  • @shinymcshineshine The latest version of this cooler support support up to a 6970.

  • @shinymcshineshine yes it will check arctic cooling website

  • i have a 4870 and it runs up to 102 playing crysis overclocked lol probably not healthy i need something to cool this bad boy down

  • hey, just wondering if you had to modify the RAM heatsinks that came with the twinturbo to fit with 4870. iv been reading about that you have to cut one of the ram heatsinks at an angle to work with the 4870. cheers nice video btw!

  • @kensifella Truthfully I didn't use the RAM heatsinks. The card didn't come with any stock so I didn't bother putting any on it since I'm not overclocking the RAM it's fine without. It might also depend on if the PCB is an ATi reference board or not. Mine is non-reference so it could be different anyway.

  • You could mod the old fan to be a mini vacuum cleaner. It sure sounds like one!

  • Does this cooler fits on ATI 5700?

  • lololo is funny at 9:45 the before and after...lolol is like heaven and hell, i do know what it is because i just had the same issue and i had resolved it with the same cooler from artic accelero twin..it does a beautiful job!! how come amd ati doesnt come up at first place with something like that?? well since we had payed a lot for the 5870?? morons... thumbs up bro

  • @guitargamery Remember AMD didn't design the fans on a non-reference card like this. Palit did in this case and yeah I don't know what they where thinking when they heard that and thought it was okay! Usually reference cards from either AMD or NVidia are never this loud stock. Actually I've never heard another card as loud as this and I work in a computer shop so I see different cards everyday!

  • louder, when you stick your finger in it and mess the fan up

  • @iRowey Sure because I put my finger in it in the future it made it spin at 9k RPM in the past right? The thing was clearly designed with fan speeds WAY beyond acceptable. Than again I got the card used so who knows what was done to it prior. Still I've never heard any other card that was nearly this loud and I work in a computer shop so I see different cards from every brand on a daily basis.

  • Did you put some smal lradiators too on card or just the big coolers itself gets everything cooled?

  • yes it is on wrong direction.i have the same cooler and the pipes have to be up side!

  • @combat7060 Did you ever think it would depend on the card you're putting it on and how high up or down or how far forward or back the GPU and mounting holes are? It's on the right way for this card. It would never go on the other way, the heatsink would have to go over top the video cards own backplate and outside the back of the case for it to possibly go on the other way! In other words it couldn't possibly go on the other way on this card.

  • ha i run 9800gtx in sli . . my primary card hits 90 degrees + all the time

  • If you had TWO cards in there in side-by-side SLI, would this cooler fit in between them?

  • You have put the cooler in the wrong direction. The Arctic Cooling Sticker should point at you if you look at the gpu card from the side of the chassi

  • @omgsucker Umm it does face me when it's in and the font is even upright! It's on right it only fits one way (if you put it the other way the heatsink would be to low to fit the card on the motherboard)

  • good video.... im having the same problem with my XFX GTS250...and i was going to send it back to novatech on rma... however im gonna buy one of the ac twin turbo,s ... thes are awesome and arctic cooling are the kings of cool... ive got one of their freezer 7 pro,s and it knocked 20c off my cpu temp... what can u say your card is totally transformed... and the 10c drop will also allow some overclocking but i wouldnt .... just savour the silence peace !

  • ...

  • ...

  • what the card ? 4870?? Asus?

  • @malnacs It's a Palit 4870 with the OC switch on the backplate.

  • sounds like a vacuum cleaner...good thing you change the stock cooler

  • m8,thats loud.so loud,in fact that i cant understand why they are released when they are so obviously underperforming.it has to be something that the card maker would have seen...

  • be careful when u stop the fan with your hand, ive hurt my knuckles a million times doing that, haha

  • This card have nickled, copper Heat Pipes.

  • you can hear the wind when u move the camera close!! hahahaAhA!!

  • HI there, do you remove the retention bracket which you removed from the back of the card to remove the stock cooler? Or did you keep it on when you installed the new cooler?

    Thanks =D

  • Is it possible to crossfire two video cards EACH with an arctic cooler?

  • @martiallink Yeah on most mobos they should fit but the two cards would be really close together.

  • What are the black blocks next to the voltage regulator heatsink?

  • @DreadMauler Chokes. You'll always see chokes as part of VRM circuits.

  • @MN12BIRD Thanks for awesomely quick answer, Can you detail me those chokes in a PM or on here comments? Do they need cooling? What do they actually do?

  • @DreadMauler Well I'm no electrical engineer or anything but I think they're just like filters to filter out any feedback, noise etc from the power. If you open one up there's just a coil of copper wire inside like you see inside power supplies only smaller and sealed in the plastic box.

  • I like your manual fan control !

  • Hey guys i need some urgent help.I got this Arcitc cooler n installed it yesterday on my XFX ATI 4870. The thing is my card was normally at 66 C on the custom fan(0% activity). With this one i am getting 75 C.I hav connected the powersupply to the 12V.Shundnt i hav less than 66C theoratically.

Secondly if i connect it to the 12V supply how can i control the fan speed because over drive than has no effect on it.

Waiting for someones reply thank you

  • my 4870 idles at 24% @ 50 degrees =/

  • My 5850 and my 4890 worked with 36° idle and up to 80° load why? the accelero itself is not hot but it is definetly on the gpu ! there's something wrong but I reinstalled it many times.... good airflow in case and 2x 120mm fans on it (1400rpm)!

  • Thank You. I think the high temperatures could be down to bad air flow in my case mainly.

  • Can this be installed onto a PNY GeForce 9800GT? I'm getting 60c at idle and 90c at load.... This is not good. :(

  • @FireTheDamnAWP Damn. No that's probably not good! This should work on that card as far as I know but check first.

  • @MN12BIRD

Thank You. I think the high temperatures could be down to bad air flow in my case mainly.

  • @MN12BIRD Thanks. I think that the high temperatures could be down to poor airflow in my case mainly.

  • I did stick my finger into the fan once, never since, when I got cut by the fan, I was meant to touch the centre, but the blade got me :)

  • I have the same video card, I solved by removing the second fan (due to noise), and managing the main fan with RivaTuner, temperatures do not exceed 65 in full

  • I personally think the paste it comes with has been way too liberally applied. When I get my Accelero I'm gonna wipe it all off and start with a tiny grain sized piece of thermal paste. Just like a cpu. Remember, the paste is only there to fill microscopic gaps and imperfections of the metal work. Its not supposed to be the sole medium in which the heat transfers.

  • where can I get that vga cooler?

  • Comment removed

  • i had a problem with both my 3870 in my media pc for my living room and my 4850. got liquid cooling for the 3870 and a thermaltake... something.. lol ITS GOT LEDs so it must be a good cooler! :P

  • Very nice video, thanks. thanks to you i bought the Accelero twin turbo, but i bought the Accelero twin turbo pro. I've installed it yesterday on my 4870, i have to say that it takes a few houres, but it was absolutly worth the time. tomorrow i'll install everyting in my new case (coolermaster Sniper). Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I have a question that I'm finding it hard to get an answer to online. Maybe you can help me out. The original 4870 fans were obviously throttled by the PC. That is to say when the card got hot, it turned the fans up.

Does this still happen with the Arctic Cooling fans or do you have to control them manually?

  • no the ATi drivers can still adjust the fan speeds.

  • @MN12BIRD I can adjust mine...

  • @ROXcursed

You may have to use RBE and edit your GPU BIOS to have the fans running optimal without using software to set the fan speed manually.

I own a HD4850 and the fans did not go at all until I edited to the GPU BIOS and flashed the card.

Otherwise I would have to set it manually

  • Nice Video :), my old HIS 1GB 4870 which was factory OverClocked ran at 68-70 Degrees at idle, BTW it was virtually silent at idle, and when it got under load the fan cranked up and the temp remained the same. These 4870s are very impressive cards running pretty much every game out there on max in 1080p

  • I think the prob with the original fan its the small one can't be controle by sofware. With some research I saw we are suposed to be able to controle it...If its like my Asus eah4890/1go ddr5, I have 2 fans and the small one is 2pins since I unpluged it, no noise anymore and before it I had the same probleme that you. Now I stay at 50 degrees outside of game and 70 when I play game. Because seriously, I thought like you, I can't live with that lol.

  • have the cooler by tomorrow

i hope it is a huge difference

  • wow thank you very much!

you are a very helped me!

i'm going to bay this stuff its very cheap and vary good stuff

i got 9800 GT and its too hot some thing like 80~70...

  • im having the same problem, but with a gts 250

have you bought the twin turbo already? because i want to know your top degrees :) (looking into buying this cooler)

  • do i still need to plug up the six pin wire to the card if i install this cooler including the cooler power wire?????? or can i just power up the cooler and forget about the six pin that goes to the card ????????

  • No you still need to plug in the six pin power connector as that powers the GPU it has nothing to do with the fan. The cards can get enough power to run fans from the slot it's the power hungry GPU chip on the higher end cards that needs the extra power.

  • @Rockchickliser

already have it and now wen i'm idle its 40 and in game its 60 with OC :D

  • i had the same problem with my 4870 and i solved it with the same cooler lol the stock cooler idled at 58c and full load was almost 90c!! and VERY NOISY!!!!! sounded like a dremel the new cooler idles at 45c and full load is 68c and dead silent! great cooler

  • great cooler but the fan SUCKS. My fan died after 1 year. HOpefully, AC accepts my fan replacement request

  • sounds like a jet engine

  • I was planning on getting this cooler for my 2 HD4890's because the stock cooler has started to die (on both cards simultaniously lol). but i c here in your vids that the cooler is wider than the card itself and blocks the crossfire connectors. is this true? or would i still be able to use the crossfire bridges. (ps: the crossfire bridge in my system is already stretchet to its maximum)

  • thx im getting Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo Pro for my 4850 now

  • got 4870 aswell , noise is making me mad :P

  • i´m gonna buy it is it good??

Cause my XFX 8800 GT is very hot @ playing and sometimes i get bluescren :O

    cause its to HOT :DDD

    5*

  • Yes this is good. I bought it mainly for the quiet factor but it also dropped temp. Make sure your 8800GT is dust free blow it out if you have too. Also make sure your PSU isn't the cause, make sure you have enough amperage on the +12V rail to run the card properly. Starve it of power and it can overheat and crash. It shouldn't overheat at stock settings unless the TIM has dried up or your airflow in your case is bad.

  • @TheGrandmaster619

my mates 8800GT is fucking stupid! xD

full load is runs at 75c

overclock it my 10Mhz and it will go over 100C!

  • even my 4890 run max 59C idles at 36c

  • my 4890's idle at 60 and go up to 70 on full load. (stock cooler and slight overclock though)

  • Just brought this cooler your review totally got me hyped for delivery day.

  • I've got the palit 4870 as well, I found it was the smaller fan making all the noise in mine and I'm considering getting a new cooler for it. Mine idles at about 38c with the fans at 29% and about 40c to 50c under load with the fans at the same speed but it's just way to loud. and I have to ask did you install heatsinks for the RAM chips?

  • No I didn't bother with the RAM sinks. I figured it didn't have them before so why bother. I don't OC the card or memory.

  • Ok, Cheers for the info, The video really helped with my decision.

  • i have to, my 9800gt (hate nvidia love ati) and i have no ram sinks therefore i HAD to apply them, it differes between people

  • wel then again my core overheated, then that overheated every thing else, like a chain reaction. very good cooler

  • putting the mic near the fan was a nice touch

  • Comment removed

  • Saw your review.. Nice ! And dosnt cost u an arm or a leg... So thinkin about do it myself but anything i need consinder before i do it. ? I got XFX4770512mb u think it fit. Since my card is bit older than yours... Cheers if u answer fast.

  • I had no idea that thing gets so loud! All the reviews were saying it's very quiet.

I am getting this cooler in a week for my 4890. Also, I am getting the new Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro MKII headphones, so I won't be hearing my PC anyway!

  • Good Vid man.

  • 170 fps lol i only get 35 fps oh my god...

  • Great great video - thanx a bunch man..

Just convinced me to buy the cooler :D

  • Man... You just convinced me to buy an Arctic Cooling cooler. I've been wondering whether to change my stock cooler on my 4850 for a long time now; it's a single slot, which is badass by the way. Sadly, I'm using a htpc case. Will upgrade soon to a Cooler Master case... :(

  • I'm using a Zalman VF900 on my Gigabyte HD4670. Works very well, runs dead silent, and has a nice blue LED.

  • My HD 4850 (single slot) hits about 90C load temps. Ive already ordered mine and cant wait to see how well this will work on it.

  • Hey bro, just wanted to know where did you purchased yours. I have a HD4650 and I guess the mounting holes are the same pattern.

  • my hd 4850 reaches 97C. I'm thinking of getting one too

  • send it back mine hits 47 never gos higher

  • Alright i got this cooler installed on my xfx 4870 (doesn't blow air out back model) and wow it knocked of 10c idle temperature and never get's above 65c full load and that's overclocked to 800/1000!!!

Only problem i had was i had to swap around the power regulators heatsinks with the ram heatsinks because the layout was different and it didn't fit over all them. Havn't had any problems with ram heatsinks falling off but other than that it's a great cooler

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the reveiw, my 4870 card is getting VERY VERY HOT. It's getting into the low 80's on full load and that's with 6x120mm fan on full speed!!!

The stock fan just can't cope with the heat :(

Anyway i'm hoping to buy this nice looking cooler and see what temperatures i can get and maybe even overclock?

I think i just saved my video card from extinction :D haha

  • man can you tell me your card is 512mb ?

i have his hd4870 512mb.. i realla wanna buy cooler.. i live in Turkey and people saying Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev.2 + Turbo Modul is more silent.. and i cant find this cooler in Turkey now.. but i found Twin Turbo.. are you happy with this cooler? can you do overclock?

  • My card is 512, the S1 might be a bit better like I said but I'm still super happy with this one. Its way the heck better than the stockers so don't worry about it. I don't OC other than the factory OC settings witch is 775 Core IIRC

  • Arctic Cooling VGA Cooler Accelero S1 Rev.2 + Turbo Modul or Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo which one is better ??????

    i have HD4870 512mb

  • Not sure. The Accelero may be a bit better but I knew if I got that I would end up rigging a big fan or two small fans to it so I just got the one that came with the two fans already.

  • i have this card n mines at 60% fan speed n its not even loud?? wth

  • Beats me perhaps there was a revision or BIOS update to change fan speeds? I wish mine wasn't loud with the stock fans on it.

  • that was a pretty sweet heatsink for being stock. I have the Visiontek HD4870 (which I would have intercourse with if i could find a way...) and it has the straight from the ati factory cooling unit. Im gonna order this cooling unit when i get paid...

  • You should get the accelero S1. its almost the same as the twin turbo but it a much bigger heat sink and no fans.

  • Have u overclocked? what speeds can u get ur 4870 to?

  • Thats sick how it can loud like that.

I´m want to buy that cooler to my 4870 too.

  • Very nice =P

Im looking for a good thermal/noise solution for my HIS 4870, may be buy this accelero and mod with the blower xDD hehehe

thanks for the video!! gretting from Argentina =)

  • wow I need to buy that cooler for my HD4870 as well :)

I got >60°C in idle mode and 80-90°C in furmark. yes that maybe good temps but the cooler is loud!

    So thanks for that video!

  • my amd 4770 is pretty quiet and plays oblivion at 1680x1050 at 50-60 frames :) but... it is pretty hot

  • The 4770 is an amazing card one of the most efficient made when you need power to play games but don't want a new PSU! Its the first 40nm GPU on the market and also had DDR5. I didn't know they ran hot I thouhght they ran cool and had lots of overhead for overclocking. Sure its running hot? Got decent airflow and a decent power supply??

  • i actually don't know how hot a card should run, but I stuck my hand in there and it was at least 140* F

  • actually just checked the calalyst thing and it was 116* or 47*, that's just fine, it seemed hella hot the first time I felt it.

  • i play @ 100% my case stops the sound :D, with the panel off its a plane.

  • My 8600 GT XXX runs way too hot. I was playing Crysis for a little bit. Then I checked the temp. It was 107 degrees celcius. That's way too hot. I even took the cover off the tower to give more airflow. Something's not right.

  • haha 100% fan= xbox 360 sound

  • i have a 9500GT gigabyte model that is pretty silent it has one fan but its not a 8800GT or somethin but it runes all the new game swhat are comin out :)

  • hey why did you leave off the ram sinks that came with the twin turbo? i've had problems myself with those stupid things not sticking, but won't they get way too hot without the sinks on em?

  • My card never had any ram sinks on there to begin with so it will be fine without them. If you do want to use them be sure to clean the RAM chip with alcohol first or they may not stick.

  • yeah i did that, and they don't stick very well regardless. well the stock cooler probably had a plate on it that cooled down the ram beforehand. I know with the sapphire cards you can leave the stock ramsink on there (the giant red plate) and just mount the ac tt on top of it. i'm thinking of just getting some thermal tape, i would get paste but if the card bombs i don't want to rip the ram right out of the card when i try to put the stock cooler back on there lol.

  • My GTX 295 sounds like a leaf blower on 100% fan.

It's not too bad at 50-60%

  • kick ass mod on the card jake. man that is one hell of a moster cooling system. very impressed.

  • nice vid/tut, I have the 4870 from Gainward it's almost the same just different branding. I think i will be placing this on aswell cuz mine is really noisy, the smaller fan makes more noise cuz it spins faster/more. Good card though.

  • gainward is a subsidiary of palit same for xpertvision

i allways assumed that gainward was its own company but it isnt i knew on the other hand xpertvision is just palit rebranded

  • as soon as you add aftermarket cooling you break the warranty if you dont get caught when sending it in our lucky but you did actually break the warranty

that is why i keep on the stock cooling

runs friggin cool on the gtx260 but a little loud dosnt need to go over 50% fan speed tho during gaming stays under 50c cool for me

  • i got an xfx hd4890 and i put this on., xfx allows for aftermarket coolers and even overclocking :).

  • really i must read up on their warranty then

i assumed every manufacturer was the same in principle apart from the amount of years

    nice!

  • In my opinion XFX is the best

  • the stock 4870 card is a lot quieter but its shit at cooling does the bare minimum for stock clocks

your just comparing it to the card you used to have, its far more powerful and its far more louder compared to other similar cards its actually not that bad

the accelero is okay not the best but it will cool just as good as the palit one and be a little quieter at the same time

  • My 4350 runs at 60 celcius... and it can get up to 80 degrees if I leave it on too long. And the air in my room... is cold. My entire basement is my room, so it can get pretty cold down here. So those temps arent that bad.

  • I love how it sounds like he is outside in the wind or something LOL

  • your vids take to long to buffer no other person o n youtube gives me this prob exept you :S

  • the work fine for me

Maybe you're watching them when they're still processing?

  • Uh maybe thanks :)

  • wow, what a monster :-D

  • damn that was so loud! after hearing it on 100, 50 wasn't so bad.

I'm going to be getting an hd4890, and I'm just wondering if you know which aftermarket cooler would be better, that accelero, or a zalman vf1000.

    thanks

  • Wow, the twin turbo is a great cooler :O

Can't wait for the 40nm 5000 series cores to hit shelves in September, should hopefully runa little cooler than current 55nm models :)

    Great vid! 5/5

  • I've got this for my 8800gt

It runs at 40c all the time with no fan on the heatsink. About 30c idle 38c load with a fan. insane temps, especially when it was like 80c load with the stock sink which was defenningly loud.

  • yeah i got a gtx280 and i think its hotter then the sun

  • Holy mother of god so loud :D. Good work & upgrade!

  • very cool upgrade there dude

  • That is a big difference.

  • you could get a small fan like classic game room does with his computer he has a mini fan and it works great

  • at 100% it sounds like an airplane taking off lol

  • Well, as the old SNES commercials used to say, PLAY IT LOUD! :P

  • Have you ever heard a server computer starting up LOL? Its worse than an aircraft!

  • indeed...
