  • BUT there's no itunes, I can't sync my ipad :(

  • ma nigger let's work together

  • im using Google Chrome while watching this...

  • Doesnt the Tablet make this chromebook obsolete?

  • @KungFuChess Nope, the chromebook makes the tablet obsolete. Why get a tablet when you can get something that loads web pages way faster, has a proper keyboard, and boots up way faster?

  • im using google chrome now

  • i wonder if it would work good on pads

  • I would like to have Chrome OS. But I dont like it because I like to play games in my pc like World Of Warcraft. Counter Strie. Starcraft. And 3D Design softwares like Endorphin, 3D Max Studio, etc. So the compatibility with that things isnt very good. :D

  • chrome os maybe be a second OS of the future users..

  • Wheres Omer ?

  • it's Chrome OS not Google Chrome OS

  • And Google still haven't released Google Chrome OS...

  • Its like an internet browser you CANT exit! D:

  • im using google chrome right now!

  • I don't like it... However, as said, it can be good for people only using the internet, or people like my mother (she doesn't understands the difference between files on her own laptop or stuff like mails that are online)

Me (and lots of other I guess) just want a PC with some kind of storage drive to store my music, pictures, video's and so on.

I don't even want it on my tabletPC unless maybe if the local prices (belgium) for mobile internet drop way down! (currently about 7 - 8 $ for 50Mb!

  • It's like having safari as an os lol wtf...

  • i'd love chrome os on the Google tablet, pull it out of your briefcase/ bag and internet in seconds

  • id rather go out and buy an iphone with a data plan couse it does the same thing.....

  • No directX? No OS!

  • Once the SSD problem (yes this is a problem) is fixed, why not just have it dual boot so if you just want to do something really quickly that doesn't need a lot of power like email or facebook or even transfering shit from one thing to another, you can boot in really fast and do it. Then when you want to do whatever else just use the real one? does this not make sense? COME ON!! DUAL BOOT AINT NEW!

  • You are reviewing Google's OS and you are wearing a Google t-shirt :) FTW

  • WHY THA FAK ARE U WORKING ON A MAC!!!! AAAAAAAAARGHH!!!!!

    -.-

  • @ymerdrengene because mac is best for working man

  • @dspiric lol i diagree.. but is funny that he uses a Mac to demonstrate Google Chrome, because Google and Apple are enemys

  • so you need internet to run it ?

pretty weird, i like google and i use google everyday

but i dont want google to use me and watching over my back..........

  • @taproot12 inshort we should not try chrome OS(minus faster boot up)due to chrome control us some how(i am very stupid in hearing english) i like chrome browser 2 =yes??

  • i downloaded the beta onto a usb stick. and i gotta say its pretty bad. i mean it awesome how it boots in a second but all it is, is an internet browser that can do a bit more then a regular browser. its just in now way an OS. feeding all our info to "the cloud" is just stupid. everything will be monitored, no movies online or anything. just one big fail by google.

  • i' m acctually downloading a beta to my USB 2.0 memory stick right now, youst to test it. i am æ apple fanboy, but i does not have money for a mac(since im 13 years old) so i think it sounds cool:)

  • Google Chrome OS sucks totally. Internet's one thing, computer is other. With the internet "owning" our documents, government will start monitoring people more than it already monitorates! Bye bye cracked programs and we won't be free anymore. And the worst thing I can imagine is that we can't do anything, because all OS will be like Chrom OS sooner or later.

We're fucked. More than we're right now. ._.

  • @EpicnessPivotMaster i say if people want to use only the cloud then ok. or even just use it as a companion device! :D lol. but ya, i agree that the gov is getting too intrusive. but that is a matter to be addressed separately. but imho, dont subject others to your preferences, but you did make good points for conideration.

  • Can it surpass window?

  • @LiuBrucecarl dont think so

  • @LiuBrucecarl everything has surprassed windows

  • " free and open sourced is always good for alotta people" you said it brah

  • it could be good for school

  • We will be taking advantage of Chrome OS on our thin clients. It will merge perfectly with our Google Apps.

I believe there to be a lot of people thinking inside the box here.

    "Only on phones..."

    "Only on netbooks..."

"A small percentage of people will be using this..."

I think that's total crap. Every company that has task oriented workers can use this. A vast majority of work for any company is web based and where its not can easily become so.

  • i think it falls cause its really just not fleshed out what so ever. build an ACTUAL os thats chrome, not this thing.

  • I don't get this whole "Why can't I install it on my computer?" issue.

It's meant to be fast, simple, efficient. It's not your primary OS. Nobody goes "Oh, why can't I have Android or iOS on my 27" screen?" - it's not its purpose. Chrome OS is probably targeting netbooks/laptops/etc. I don't think anyone would rather wait 30s before they can use their smartphone to check their mail or make a phone call, just so they can boot Windows 7 on a 4" screen.

    (lolwut.jpg)

  • but if its open-source and it can only be used on verified machines, thats just the most stupid fucking thing ive ever heard. sounds like google failed on this one.

  • chrome Browser isn't even worth Advertising. as for the web, yes a lot of software will merge into web apps, Thanks Pirate fuckers! however Chrome will not make it on PC, it will work only on Phones! phones is a perfect place for something as lame as Chrome OS

  • This only brought up gaming as the tangible issue. It seems to be that people who have a problem with Chrome OS are either gamers (which are a large part of computer users) and conspiracy freaks who think google wants to become a militarized nation. I think in the future people will want to stick to the web and google is already running while the others haven't even started the race.

  • Add an app store where user can buy app then it would be good.

  • This OS is probably going to be used for netbooks so people can be on the internet faster.

  • Google isn't trying to revolutionize, it's trying to simplify. This isn't meant to be used as the main OS by anyone, it's meant to be the OS used on smaller computers on which you only browse the web.

  • If only it was like a proper OS because I would love to see google's theme and opening the computer really fast like linux based OS

  • Like it for my business laptop, but everything I COULD do on Google Chrome OS I already do on my HTC Desire with Google's Android. Maybe a new aspect for Google at the Tablet PC's. Now Google is using Android on the Samsung Galaxy TAB.

Always think out of the box, blue ocean strategy!

  • I'm not gonna setup it as my main OS.. but I like the idea. So it will be perfect if in the future will be a complete OS! I will try it for sure!

  • The limitations of Google's new operating system will be the limitations of web technologies such as HTML5. Google should be very active not just in developing HTML5 but also in looking for alternatives to it (it may look at Microsoft's WPF for some inspiration). That way there will eventually be very little reason for preferring a traditional operating system. Programs are bad while declarative languages such as XML and HTML are good -- it is just that the latter still have a long way to go.

  • and i should pay for this why....???

  • @rakovski95

It's open source... so if some one lets you pay for it he's screwing you! XD

Actually you can download it already for free though it's still under developement... try googling "chroomium"

  • @sipsop

Oh, I'm sorry... misspelled it. It's: "chromium" with one "o" ;)

  • @rakovski95 its open source = FREE

  • If I install this, can I return to Windows XP if I want to?

  • APPLE better make bootcamp for this {Macbook Air} it would be the best

  • I wont think it would be good to totally depend on google

its whole on internet, no application download makes it 0/5 rating

  • ok my opinion honest i would rather instal a ubuntu netbook edition or ubuntu remix... call it how u want rather than using this...

  • if apple make a boot camp for this then im in

  • if it runs each and every win app ill go with it.

  • You cant use it without an internet connection. but it is a great idea for something like a phone operating system or maybe a library computer. Like a simple version of ubuntu or red hat

  • @mattkessanis Google already have a phone operating system, its called andriod.

  • I actually like the idea of Chrome OS on a netbook. I don't own a netbook because a netbook running Windows would be too slow and useless to me, but one running chrome os would be perfect

  • why not use linux?

  • Too limited, need a g-mail account, Linux based. Not worth it.

  • i'd probably not use the chrome os maybe just use it as a dual boot up or something like that

  • its like back to the future

  • This OS looks like absolute shit.

No offense to Google, but WOW.

  • where to get it?

i can find only for virtualbox

  • You can use this without reformating ur PC or laptop again by VMware :)

  • only on an ssd? so you need a $700 laptop for web only???

  • @AirForcedude5 no its like 200 or 300 dollars

  • simply and fast ;)

    and No virus !

f*ck the trojan horse on windows systems

  • Where did you get that t-shirt?

  • I would dual boot it.

  • @DustinDosh brilliant,i thinked about that too

  • IS THIS USEFUL ... LOL..

  • sounds dumb. would def not switch from snow leopard

  • how about give it a start menu and some good TB hard drive and amasing processors then I go and by it. But for now i say NO WAY.

  • Google Chrome and Google Chrome OS are awesome in my opinion :) I love google and they're ads are sooo freaking creative. I'm not sure if I will get GC os, but it difinetily looks great :) Can't wait.

  • There are some applications online (especially the ones Google made) that can be run offline. This is done using Google Gears (which is pre-installed on Google Chrome and can be installed on other browsers). Most of those applications replace our other applications which are not on the internet (like Google Docs replaces Microsoft Office). This will also work this way on Google Chrome which means that you will not lose anything. Therefore, there is not problem with installing Chrome as OS.

  • really? if i can afford a decent amount of storage on a ssd i wouldn't need linux.

  • i jave a net book and only use the internet so im gonna have it as my main OS

  • It'll be like Linux but cleaner.

    I'd certainly dual-OS this.

  • I rather keep my Windows 7 OS than google's OS. I use chrome as my main browser so I don't need this and I think google really need to fix this idea because I don't think it will work.

  • Well we all said crap about android when it first released, and we all said stuff in the effect of: "it's taking them a whole year to come on a second device" but look at it now, HTC Motorola and others jumping around and pushing more and more android phones into the market, and android will be one of the market leaders soon.

  • It's just Chrome browser + Ubuntu Linux

    nothing new

  • people doubt google chrome os right now because its still in its infancy, in fact it hasnt even been released yet. you cant doubt google, their track record speaks for itself. chrome os will take baby steps, first it will cement itself as the main OS for netbooks, this is obvious because its being built strictly for netbooks and all major hardware companies will abandon clunky windows and adopt chrome! after that you will see google just dominate the laptop market once they become SSD

  • this is the biggest failure for google , thats it .....

  • i dig your urban vibe

  • No installation - Great!!!

    Web-I-net based - okay sounds promising;

    Minimal resources and etc. - excellent;

I only can't except that all my stuffs will be stored on-line... My documents, presentations and etc will be vulnerable if someone hack goggle. I'm concerned about my privacy!

  • @hangman13us

    ''hack google'' lol

  • @smartguy9765 They can hack FBI, DANS and many others... everything seems possible to me!

  • @hangman13us

yeah i know, i just thought those two words alone were funny ^___^

  • @hangman13us Ever heard: "good for government use"? Don't expect the government to be able to protect against its computer retards that it employs that bring infected USB drives in and screw stuff up. I want to remind you of the military ban on USB drives...of course it was too late for them since they probably moved against USB after the fact.

  • 1 day before my birthday

  • hey what program you use too make the video like this????

  • will i lose my data?

  • What is Bootcamp?

  • My archives should be at my home in my hard disk. Not in a Google server at who-knows-where location. If i need security i do back-ups.

But if we just let Google to get all our information... Do you have that book that don't like us? Ok, don't worry, tomorrow you will not.

  • Ugh, I think it's fugly

  • Once again , Quit Dreaming ! i know u r just trying to your new iMac to record this crap. It just a Mac, but u make urself look dumb.

  • Dude , SSD are not for everyone yet, as a Google lover, i order you to take that statement back , cuz i just install this OS on my SATA Drive. yall better apologize to Google ! sucka

  • hookshark521 watch your damn language but other that that peace will never happen as long as we have extremists running around with towels on their heads lol

  • POG!!!!

  • Chrome OS will be for all cloud apps which will be 100% of the applications by 2020 when there will be 16TB micro SD cards and people filming their kids growing up with an HD camera the size of a piece of gum and an Internet connection of 10Gbps mobile wireless and at home on land-line fiber.

Windows and Linux will be for Local Apps and PCs still running on Internet connections of less than 100Mbps.

So yeah the entire world will switch to Google Chrome OS eventually for its SPEED.

  • @Trancegasm who told you that?

  • I'm in the tech industry and I know the trends.

    SSDs instead of hard drives...

Micro SDXCs in all pocket gadgets...

Netbooks with cloud apps for less than $100 where an Internet connection will be your portal to the world and all the software you want computed with server farms of over 500Ghz.

    All computers running Google Chrome.

Cloud computing is the future as CPUs get faster and memory gets cheaper.

What will you do with a micro SDXC card of 2TB in your phone running android OS? lol

  • sure, dude, sure.

  • You better believe it. I can build a server farm of 4, 8-core PCs = equal to 90Ghz with 8TB now for $5000 TODAY so by 2020 when that setup is less than $300, people will be running everything from the Internet cloud.

Imagine a terminal connected to the processing power of the above and you'll understand Google Chromium's disruptive effect.

Then again there are people using cassette tapes, 486s, and manual typewriters 10 years after they were obsolete so YOU don't have to upgrade. =P

  • hi dude chrome os i s good but does it have desktop environment like windows and ubuntu it would look good

  • Preview of Google Chrome OS on my page.

  • Chrome os sounds like the perfect solution for pc users (like me) who spend over 95% of their time on the computer using the internet. The only drawback I could see is usage of media programs like iTunes that will likely not be supported.

  • You are a little wrong on some of your facts dude. Chrome OS can run many apps while you are offline using HTML 5 and Google Gears.

  • im gonna get an cheap laptop and install chrome os on it internet browsing cause i already have have a pc for gaming

  • it will be based on linux, and i am sure it will ROCK!

  • theres no security issues. apple fanboy

  • I dont like apple either.... Windows 7 64bit

  • @masterx1996

hahah, with all your data stored on someone else's harddrive? sure.

    Max OS X please

  • @masterx1996 You don't know if there are any security issues!

So soilders opinion is perfectly acceptable!

  • Comment removed

  • @sashenka17

You should have just used WUBI ... To install Ubuntu... Or use Linux Mint it's easy to use... or just used a Live CD.

  • @sashenka17

You can use a Virtual Machine to try out the OS. But there's nothing as a "co-OS."

  • yes their is, it is called dual booting 2 operationg systems!

  • @ Dekulink333

oh, i get it. thanks ^_^

  • I like Google's browser, its quick, easy and simple to use. :)

  • Google chrome os is made from Linux ...

Look up Linux Ubuntu , or Linux Mint , or openSUSE, Fedora, Gentoo, Debian, Slackware >>> 1,000 Linux is made by people all over the world... Google just added to the collection.

"Google Chrome is a Linux Kernel Based Operating System"

Linux is unix-based just like Mac OS and BSD

  • Absolutely true...Google created only the GUI and tune some kernel components

  • I'll stick with windows 7 thanks...

  • its already out O.O

  • I'm not gonna install it as my main Operating System.

I'm using Chrome AS my main browser, and am very happy wit it.

But as my main OS? No, sorry, it's just to limited, it is a nice idea

  • @Dani2300one just give a little time to it

soon it would be apps, and sure that google will finaly adapt it's operating system to run apps offline...windows it's death...linux for the win

  • @Dani2300one You can always duel boot: you install chrome as an operating system with a smaller hard drive space allocated for it. Then if you want to use it, you can just choose it on startup

  • @Dani2300one this is the future more and mroe apps are run through the internet every day.

  • @Dani2300one It could do as my secondary operating system.

  • Will it support high end gaming?

M a gamer and gaming is life for me!!

  • well aren't you special

  • and it will be FREE!

Bye bye Microsoft, have fun with your Windows 7 :P :D

  • Google is the king of the internet and by releasing Google Chrome OS, they will have completely taken over.

  • i got this now lol

about to post a video of it today

  • Ill put it on my shitty XP Pro Gateway...

  • Great video man, thanks for the review. And yep, I do plan on using Chrome OS as my main operating system.

  • I've already offloaded gaming and playing media to my PS3, moved to a lot of work I used to do with native apps of cloud apps.

Also run some private web apps on my dreamhost account.

Seems like pretty likely this could be my main OS. Maybe have to hack it to run gimp and inkscape , as that are the only app that I still run natively on a frequent basis and that I don't see moving to the cloud any time soon.

  • Good review; just what I wanted to know. I think this will be increasingly the direction developers will take like Google & Apple. Though internet connections aren't always available, it would be especially good for netbooks. But what happens to the os you already have & access to your other software?

  • Sorry but I'd never use this OS!

  • i could imagine this being perfect for netbooks

  • As Marshal McLuhan noted, the problem with a universal service environment is that there is a cutoff switch, under somebody's control.

Each generation of software-creating tools subsumes and automates certain tasks heretofore manually performed.

I'm not sure I agree with Google's choice of items to subsume, either in their Browser, "Chrome", or in their OS

  • i have it on vmware fusion

  • i have the beta..its cool

  • I'm pretty sure I will replace it with my main operating system at home (Windows XP SP3). I'm already starting on placing all my docs and images for school on the big Google Cloud. I really really like Cloud processing, so I think this will be a must.

  • Its an operating system depending on internet, and you cant store anything on it, for gamers, you got windows, for work, you got mac, for the rest...You got Google Chrom OS...I think...

  • you mean i cant work on windows 7? wow thanks for letting me know, i wont be buying that pos now. /s

  • for games you have windows, for movie and photo editing you have Mac, for work and everything else you have Linux.

I think Chrome might be good for netbooks, but the fact that nothing can be downloaded kills it

  • If anyone is interested in trying out the BETA Lockerz site, send me a private message and include your email address. I'll send your invite to the email quickly.

  • Google has really been working their way up to this with google docs, calender, picasa and sites. Like soldierknowsBest said they are trying to go completely online but google has a hidden agenda, most sites don't aim their

product towards strictly online content only so with this crome OS you will be using mostly google services. in my opinion i think it is more of an "advertising" operating system to promote other google services

  • Soldier is being totally fair! i use all three major OS'a (windows mac and linux) on a variety of computers and i can see this OS replacing the random different netbook mini-linux builds. this seems like a very limited market, but this is google, everything is virtually free.

  • well no wonder it boots in 3-4 seconds.

its on a SSD, you can trim up windows to do the exact same if its on a SS drive.

  • It wont be compatible with anything.

Just like the 2500 dollar sub par Mac

  • it is just a browser

  • Soldier is wrong he's judging them cause their Google, Google is apple's rival just as Microsoft. I download for everyone I know I think it's the best browser I just love Google.

  • This is his Youtube Channel. His opinion. Google is not Apple's competition. When Google makes a computer, OS AND hot applications, then they just might be in competition with Apple. Till then, they've created a "on-the-go" browser for those who need a mobile OS. That's all. It looks pretty simple and quick.

  • @saceismyname

Yes it is and last time i checked the U.S. Constitution in amendment 1 it clearly states freedom of speech so I am allowed to say whatever I want. Google is even soldier knows best said it about the iPhone and the Google phones competing. Don't get me wrong im only OK with apple not loving it I just love the iPod's not so much the computer.

  • you should clearly read the first amendment you cant say anything you want. you can express your opinion yes. but you shouldnt slander or plagiarize.

  • i didnt slander suck on that

  • and did I say you did??? Dont jump to conclusions buddy lol

  • @poisonsting8404

then why are you bringing it up buddy??

  • For informational purposes lol

  • 7 seconds. 3 or 4 is what they are hoping for.

  • i think it would be shitt!!!

  • im running on chrome right now and i love it.

  • I mean, dont get me wrong, this looks like a great OS, for the common internet blogger/user that is commonly on their laptop.

However, I do A LOT of gaming on my desktop, so I'll stick to windows 7. Looks great for internet whores with netbooks though, that can actually get it to install.

    :)

  • I dont know if its ever going to become very popular, it would take a LOT of support to get it popular due to the fact that linux OS's, windows 7, and the mac OS's might just trample all over it with their popularity.

  • a web-based operating system would be terrible! You won't be able to do anything without an internet connection and it could be pretty slow at times.

  • I think this is more for a supplimentary computer like a Netbook, as Mark said. It's kind of like a mobile phone where all the services are located "in the cloud" but in a bigger form factor.

I don't see it taking over the world, or replacing a regular full blown OS like Windows, OS X or the many flavours of Linux, but it'll be a secondary device for when you don't need all those features and power and just simply need to use the net.

  • well you dont know what Windows is based on then...nub its based on Internet explorer...

  • i think that this is where the operating systems for the mobile devices are heading in the future
