@perkelepower Yeah it is, Howard Devoto. He was the original singer in the buzzcocks, check out the spiral scratch EP. Its the only release besides a compilation called time's up that he is on.
Thank G-d for the Buzzcocks. Such raw talent. Never got into the Ramones - they sounded way too close to home (yep, Queens, NY) - truth be told I couldn't stand listening to The Ramones so I grew to hate punk - until the UK invasion and all was saved......
@reint25 That's part of their "thing." That sort of thumbed nose at conventional performance standards, especially with a triumphant return gig, was pretty novel then, and they did it with very good humor. Diggle was pushed so that he wouldn't be hurt by the falling gear.
Wow, some good memories here... Saw these times...Electric Circus, Mayflower, Queens Hall-Bell Vue, before they knocked it down & built a housing estate. Band in the wall. Anti-Nazi Carnival, Alexandra Park, Moss Side. And Devoto/Magazine @ Russell club in Hulme...all wicked times.
Wow, some good memories here... Saw these times...Electric Circus, Mayflower, Queens Hall-Bell Vue, before they knocked it down & built a housing estate. Band in the wall. Anti-Nazi Carnival, Alexandra Park, Moss Side. And Devoto/Magazine @ Russell club in Hulme...all wicked times
I always wondered why Devoto felt he had to quit the Buzzcocks. Sure Magazine were more "sophisticated" but there's no reason why any of that stuff wouldn't have worked with the Buzzcocks. They could have stayed together and had twice as many tunes. Oh well.
the bass player playn plays guitar in the ever fallen love video in this gig. i think the other one went off so the original 4 could have a laugh i suppose
I had this on a bootleg album, and I was always so confused because Devoto was singing and the date didn't sense. Now I understand! Thanks for posting!
THIS is truly one of the greatest clips ever posted on YouTube. How brilliant to capture this 'reunion' of sorts, just months after Devoto left the Buzzcocks to form Magazine. Pete and Howard seem almost playful before belting out this number. What a treat to have been there! Thanks for posting this! By the way, the voiceover at the beginning tells me this is on a documentary or something. Anyone know? Thanks.
fucking brilliant i love howard devoto he's a geniuos and a fucking prick but hey that's punk and shelley seems to be a nice bloke and he's one of the best popsongwriters ever...but devoto surely is my favourtite
I've met both Pete and Howard at different times and I can tell you that it was Pete who just blew me away! He is brilliant..far more intelligent when you speak to him personally then he comes off in the hands of most journalists, plus he is just the funniest and ballsiest person I'v ever had the pleasure to know..just a VERY cool guy all around! Howard is smart and talented, but not nearly so well-rounded as Pete is personally, IMHO.
Unfortunately, when I knew Pete he was MARRIED, and I'm not the kind of gal who chases after married men. HOWEVER, I found out not too long ago that Pete is SINGLE again, so you never know(WINK)! ;)
shows wot you fucking know you obviously are about nine years old...without..the buzzers no Smiths ..no Oasis ..no chance for lads to dance..this was an unique time in the history of modern music

It's called an opinion, I hate The Smiths, I'm not too bothered about Oasis and I have no interest in seeing guys dance. I prefer music that's a little tighter with a guy with a distinctive voice (Metallica, Cinderella, LA Guns etc.) As I said, to me this sounds like some guys from the pub who've just got together but I guess it's not for everyone. I do like the recorded version of Ever Falled In Love though. Great writing.

That is just your opinion just as mine is my opinion, nobody is wrong or right, I just happen to like it a bit faster and a bit less 60's brit invasion but that is just me personally. I am not saying the Troggs are bad it is great and I am glad they wrote it but I think the 'cocks did it better!
