@rubberguarder i think so. like a child abuse/rape. i think the background shows you about the colorful life and purity of a girl...the lady is the girl..the bear is her innocence and purity..the witch is the abuser. the witch took the girl's purity and innocence. this abuse sent the lady(girl) into deep sorrow and darkness. But this is not the end, there's still hope and the abused can still take back what's taken from her and defeat the abuser.

No, you're not alone. I continue to be baffled why people are always asking what this song is about - seems very obvious to me it's about childhood rape or at least molestation by a family member. And then the girl coming back years after running away and the family tearing themselves apart trying to come to terms with her violation.

I feel like the inclusion of the teddy bear is particularly poignant - what could be a better symbol of a truncated childhood than by killing him?

I'm kind of baffled why so many people seem confused about the lyrics. I mean, I haven't looked it up or anything but it seems without a doubt to me to be about sexual abuse from a family member, maybe an uncle or something, and the girl still remembers when she has to see her family now that she's grown up. I mean, aren't teddy bears well known as a symbol for childhood abuse (not that people use them to abuse, but they help little kids by being their friend)
