Since many people miss these old hotels (mostly seniors), what I think should have been done is that after they were imploded they should have then been rebuilt Downtown to add more nostalgia to that part of the city. I prefer having classic/vintage and new/modern buildings coexisting hand in hand rather than just getting new structures period anyway.
Thank you for a look at the glory days of the Strip. The gaudiness of the megaresorts doe not compare to the Las vegas of the 50's through 70's. Back then there were no people on the sidewalk invading your space by forcing you to take smut advertising cards.
I was at NELLIS AFB 52 to 55 it was a wonderful place to be. the golden nugget was old western. I wacthed the sands go up in 52 and go down in 96 the orginal sands was super. probably because people dressed and had a differant attitude.anyway you can only turn the clock back in your mind. Rich Gustason
Wish I would have been alive way back then would have gone to Nevada test site and watch the Big ones ie Atomic weapon tests...ps any brothels back then?
@smartestmanonnet the music I had on their before got a copyright claim. And all of the music is made by composers that you have never heard of. So I chose this one.
Vegas was in trouble in the 80s, and enter Steve Wynn and the Mirage. BOOM, an entirely new Las Vegas has emerged out of the Desert sand by 1999. The only Vegas I have ever known. My first trip was in 2002. and I have never been so captivated by one single city..... Hold on, not city, absolute Miracle!!
I have to agree. The magic and "essence" of Vegas is definitely gone. Nothing---and I mean nothing---compares to the 60's even 70'era era Vegas. I was just there two weeks ago and was insistent on staying downtown. Even then, just minute traces are still left of that period. As great as the mega hotels like the Belaggio and Wynn are, they simply don't compare. To this day, the neon lights of the Stardust is one of my all-time favorites!
Man the Older Las Vegas seemed so much more interesting than modern day. I was born in 1989 so I only knew basically all the flashy new joints and none of the, what I consider, funner places.
I have been going since 1984. It has changed so much. I think it is MUCH more of a tourist trap now. The strip now is half run-down filthy dumps or half WAY-overpiced high-end places. Neither demo-graphic seems to be having much fun. I probably won't go to LV that many more times.
i liked the old vegas better

I love the old modern contemporary architectural buildings and houses of the past! Such art and beauity, so sad that it is all gone!

Las Vegas is it's own enemy. They tear town and rebuild over places that were the place to be.

Too bad they ran the mob out. My grandfather said it was safer when they ran things..

@JimmBailey The people I've known from that era from the area also had more class. Now it's all infested with creeps. I miss those days.
Vegas was definitely a class act.

@JimmBailey Last visit there was to have a last look at the Stardust. No desire to go back now.
