  • I was thinking of how to paint one and rename it...its a good pedal.

  • The Fulltone FULLDRIVE blows these all away. Better natural amp sounding OD

  • che palle..........sto coso giallo che fa' un casino infernale.......

  • great playing, is the zonkin yellow the Buildyourwonclone OD2? Because it looks exactly the same (sans paint job of course)

  • @sirgerry It's based on it, but it has many tweaks done to it.

  • screw the pedals, good guitar playing

  • SRV?

  • Also curious on comparing the Zonkin yellow screamer with Jekyll & Hyde. Thoughts ? Anyone ? Much Respect to all ~*

  • Kickass pedal & playing. Thanx. Can U do a shootout against other overdrive/dist. pedals next time? Including the Ibanez tube screamer please ? Thanks again.

  • i dont think it sounds anything like the ibanez

  • amazing guitarist.

  • "BYOC"= Build Your Own Clone

  • What is a "BYOC" version? Sorry for my ignorance. This pedal sounds very sweet by the way!

  • best one is a gearmanndude luther drive

  • bad monkey!! haha just kidding..

  • Greetings, rotren. I've been looking into some great tubescreamer-esh pedals for awhile now, and although I haven't tried many boutique or rare pedals, I would highly recommend you giving a try at the Green Rhino MKII by Way Huge Electronics. It's a re-issue of the original Green Rhino's made in the 90's, now re-vamped with the help of dunlop. Hope you find this useful, cheers! :)

  • Great pedal. Just rec'd mine today after a wait of a few months. Well worth the $ & the wait. It can do all that a TS can do & a LOT more. Want to flatten out the mid range? This pedal can do it! Want to boost your overdrive? This pedal can do it! Want added volume boost without adding more gain? This pedal can do it! I have two TS style pedals on my board that are variations of the original TS. The ZYS can emulate both of these pedals perfectly and still give me more. I love the boost as well!

  • Respect to the Arion Chorus!

  • @rotren what brand of patch cables did you use there? and whats the dimension of your pedaltrain? thanks in advance man!

  • @o8crashavenue PedalTrain 2, Lavacables.

  • There is the Okko Diablo missing!

  • 1:01 onwards. you got to teach me how to do that. :P

  • @rotren what pedalboard are you using?

  • could you please name the other pedals

  • would you, from the bottom of your heart recommend me to buy this instead of an ibanez tube screamer?

  • @Completreg Yes - it is more flexible and has more good tones in it. However, these are going to be hard to find, because DVM stopped building pedals... I would recommend any of the BYOC tubescreamer versions out there - all sound great and are not expensive.

  • @Completreg If you still haven't found anything to your liking, you could also look into Maxon tube screamers. Ibanez doesn't make anything of their own, so they subcontracted Maxon to make the original TS-808 in the 70's. I don't know who's making them now, but Maxon's are still better. I have a D&S II and I love it! I use it for just about anything from blues to metal and everything in between and, with just a few knob adjustments, it powers through all of them like a champion!

  • Hi im looking into buying a tubescreamer pedal, ive heard the Ibanez is one of the best but, how is it compared to the yellow zonkin?? sounds like a good pedal with many possibilities? thx.

  • @xMadWillyx The ZYS can do all the tubescreamer tones, but it can also do a lot more. Check out

    duhvoodooman(dot)com/miscimages/musical/zys_mkII.htm

  • @rotren HEY MAN THIS IS KINDA IMPORTANT..Im totally an effects loop newb so bear with me...where xactly do you plug all of those damn power supplies into...my wall doesnt have that many plugs haha..

but seriously man im fucking stumped

  • @blazehand187 Simple fix: power strip! The most efficient way though (and probably safest) is to buy a power conditioner of some sort. Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 is a very popular example. Search around on the net there are tons of options!

  • @xMadWillyx

Brian WAMPLER makes amazing pedals too. Try him out.

  • @xMadWillyx Ibanez is the original so, yeah.... It's one of the best.?.? The point is is that the original tubescreamer is limited to one chip set and usually drops out the bottom end. Many guitarists today are looking for something more flexible like the ones above.

  • the best tone ive ever heard myself (not on records) is the Marshall JVM, clean channel red mode, with the zakk wylde overdrive, with output/drive controls dimed and tone about 10'clock. such a good tone!

  • i see you're using some George L's, i have problems with them getting loose. do you experience this?

  • Amazing pedal. Unbelievable transparency, same with the option to get more punch (a Boss SD-1 with transparency). It would marry well with a Fender Super Reverb amplifier with rectifier at diode.

  • is that a korg pitchblack top right

  • @MrMonster68 It's a pitchblack tuner, correctamundo.

  • Robert, great demo as usual, for being a pedal sounds ok, but if you have a good amp like the JVM you don't need any pedal. Your JVM demo kills this demo by far, no comparison. The best thing next to a JVM is a power attenuator, or the Zvex Super hard on (it doesn't color tone but pushes valves, best pedal ever) or even a treble booster (Analogman beano for example). I would never use a tubescreamer with my JVM, it sucks tone.

  • you use the pedal over your over drive orange channel? make any noise? what about the red channel do metal at all?

  • @kissrocks45 I sometimes use the Orange mode for overdrive, sometimes a pedal. It depends on what tone I'm going after. The Red mode is very fat and rich in distortion, not sure if it's considered metal tone or not.

  • haha I have an old Arion chorus, too - and with two knobs missing! Only difference is that my Depth knob is the one that's still there :-D

  • the zonkin' screamer looks exactly like the BYOC OD-2...

functions the same too, and sounds pretty close.

  • @29396 it is the BYOC, this cat just copied it an put his name on it. Go look at his website, he "claims" he modded BYOC's original overdrive. The knobs give it away. BYOC uses cheap knobs that no other company uses.

  • There is a company that build such pedalboard exactly like this, & they build multi pwr-adaptor too...Good quality; but I forgot that company names.

  • Robert, would be interested in your opinion of how the Line 6 M9 version of the Tubescreamer holds up to this analog bunch now that you've had a chance to play with the M9.

  • should have used a TS-808 at least. Or even a Keeley.

  • This is the 5th time i am watching this in 6 weeks..Love it..Robert love the tone and technique you have mastered..later

  • just get a pedal pod so much easier

  • Ibanez. Always!

  • AWESOME PEDAL!!!!! waht a boost!!! even your good playing make this video super!!! thanks for upload great demos!!!!

  • It really sounds great but there are a lot of overdrives that aren't called tube screamers sounding as good as this one. I think of pedals from Cusak, Fulltone, Love Pedal, Barber, Homebrew...

  • i have to agree with you, i have a few of them and i have not used a tubescreamer of any kind since i got those. i got a fulldrive 2, a hbe powerscreamer with the stacked chip and fat boost, an expandora 2, a mxr classic distortion, and an epicenter valveboy, barber small fry, jetter gain stage, and shopping for an exotic bb preamp, as well as a tube driver. they are all better.

  • By the way what were u playing bro..can u please name the scale and the chords that u used?

  • No sorry I can't, because I was just improvising something. I have no idea what I played.

  • Sounds like lots of treble. Couldn't you get close to that with just the amp?

  • Well, sort of, but this pedal gives me an extra voice and it reacts well with the amp.

  • Well I have to agree wih utubefloyd on this one but great playin as always!

  • I see. Hopefully I don't come off sounding too negative, but it seems like putting a solid state overdrive device in front of a high gain all tube amp sort of defeats the purpose of the all tube signal path. Why not just buy an amp with a solid state preamp/effects and tube power amp? I'm confused by all the pedal hype.

  • It's just a demo of this pedal, and I'm not saying you need a gain pedal if you have a Marshall like this. I am trying to show what the pedal can with a good basic amp tone. I could also use a Fender or Vox and get good tone with this pedal.

  • Sorry if I over reacted. It's probably because I have a JVM also.

  • You say you also have a JVM so I imagine you know the power section of a 100W amp isn't always usable in some situations to sound its best. Using overdrive and distortion pedals can be an issue to avoid to buy a littler amp, can't it ?

  • I'm not really liking this tone.

  • wow how do you get all of this nice equipment?...........lol. ive got 2 new basses since about 1980 and my lead guitar i bought new in 1982 i think.......lol.

  • I don't buy cars and other stuff... save and over time you can buy toys like these.

  • i dont buy anything either......lol. im on a fixed income though so i just have to be patient. i would like a fender jazz bass and a strat and tele. someday i hope to have those. and if i dont get them its ok because i still have instruments i can make music on. i enjoy your videos and looking at the equipment you use.

  • That sounded great. I'd be curious to see how the Zonkin' would fare against the Ibanez hand-wired TS.

  • Damn, these are some of your BEST tones yet Robert! I don't want to be looking at your feet tap on pedals with this tone. I need to see that big grin on your face, see you bobbin your head to the beat, and most importantly that great strat of yours too. Great stuff!

  • thanks! I dig that yewllow..

is that the Jr size pedatrain predalboard?

  • No, it's the Pedaltrain 2.

  • thank you!
