The original sparkster looks like he was an inspiration from dogtanien in the animated muskateers cartoon series and mickey mouse and it worked, trying to give sparkster attitude was a bad idea.
Finally why can't konami make a worthy successor to the first rka? snes sparkster is fun but like sparkster on gen and rk it's not the same, not even close.
I'm probably alone on this but sparkser also didn't need to be redesigned period, what was wrong with his look in the first rocket knight adventures?, it was his original iconic look which is a hell of a lot better then angry looking sparkster and derp de derp sparkster in rocket knight, but that's just my opinion.
I'll say one thing about Genesis Sparkster. It has the best soundtrack of the entire series. Maybe not the best gameplay, but the soundtrack is AMAZING!
rka is the best, due to the fact genesis boast more speed for these kind of games instead slower pace,i even tought my snes wasn't working good with double dragon(great game) that one is turd slow.snes has a cleaner sountrack while genesis as always rougher around the edges.snes will always win quality wisebut that doesn't mean it can do everthing a genesis does muscially and graphically.genesis has great music but snes is easier on the ears.
The snes version of this game sucks. Really can't get my head around it. I much prefer the auto charging in this game to the original manual charging in the snes version, BUT that's only because it worked in RKA but for the snes version, everything fells clunky, and the level design is crap.
@melvoin The SNES game is not what we could call a superior version, but a totally different game. This one is Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2, the other one is just Sparkster. This one is the legit sequel within the series (and the game the new Rocket Knight continues from), the other one is just an unrelated spin-off. I can understand you prefer the SNES game, but since we are talking about different games, they can't be considered as a "better version" among each other.
@WeskerSega Yes, you can say that. The SNES game is a FAR better one, to be completely honest. In order of games for this franchise it goes RKA = Sparkster > RK > RKA2
@DisasterPiece0302 I prefer both RKA games above Sparkster, especially the first RKA which is the best of the series overall. RK is a different matter, and a somewhat uninspired game in my eyes. Probably RK is the one I like the less.
@WeskerSega RK is not uninspired, it took the guy 2 years to get permission to make it. It's from the same guy who made Contra 4 and that new silent hill. RKA2 is poorly made, though. The jetpack thing is done horribly, it's not as creative, you can't control him well in the air, those stupid gems constantly cause you to get a bomb or corkscrew randomly. It's pretty bad.
@DisasterPiece0302 It's uninspired to me, no matter the facts behind it. This game was by Climax, by the way, and Contra 4 was by Wayforward Technologies. And RKA2 is pretty interesting. It has a collecting fact with the Seven Seals that none other game in the series has. And it's the game that gives me the better design and gameplay feel after RKA, since Sparkster is just a mixture of both RKA games with some lackluster stages like the music one, but at least it's much better than RK.
@WeskerSega Sparkster was in development for like 2 years before RKA2, buddy. And it was the same guy, not company, one man pitched all of those ideas. And I don't care how interesting the concept is, it was executed REALLY poorly. I can't play a game with such ass controls like that =/
@DisasterPiece0302 Wrong, RKA2 was released slightly before Sparkster, and Sparkster shares some elements from it along with other RKA elements. Originally what was going to be released for SNES was a port of RKA, something that was canned. After that, RKA2 and Sparkster emerged, and two teams handled the two different games, only sharing key people like the composers (hence the music similarity). The other things you discuss to me are just your opinions, just like mines are.
@WeskerSega i have a question about the music.did the composer behind castlevania Michiru Yamane composed both Sparkster games or she just composed the SNES version.cause i love her work.please answer back
@Chepito2846 She composed both Sparkster games and also the first Rocket Knight Adventures game, along other composers. The three games had various composers involved, bot she was the only one to work on all of them. Other thing to note is that Akira Yamaoka worked on both Sparkster games, and these were also his first works in Konami.
@WeskerSega thanks WeskerSaga.as much as i respect all Sparkster games including the snes one,I just Find the genesis version to be much better because the beats sound so cool. courtesy of Akira,Yamane and the entire Konami music staff.Konami made Beautiful music for both SEGA & SNES.
Agreed, konami needs to remake the first rka and show audiences why it was so great in the first place instead of taking more steps away from its roots and ruining each game after the first.
Which bring Me to this, whehter it works or not if anyone's interesed I've started a petition last year with a group of people to remake first rka if enogh people sign hopefully konami will wake up and start treating sparkster better and getting him noticed more, rk didn't do it for me.
The original Rocket Knight was a better game... A much much better game, in my opinion. Such nice memories, nostalgia, the gameplay graphics and music went very well together, the feel was just amazing.
sparkster was way too hard. i thought the original was hard but then i rented this and holy shit
