  • Long Live the Tulip! I hope you rise again

  • lol @ friendship 727. great commercial. the globe sucks.

  • Heh clever, i just realized through the whole commercial the main character is wearing Blue and White.. Which is what United's First ever livery was made of, and Uniteds current livery (at the time of the release) was blue and white.. very nice touch.

  • this best advent story abaout the life from children until older

  • 727 and 767... How the years fly...

  • I have to say that the 4 people who disliked this are not human and may possibly be lacking in brain cells. The way that this commercial shown and the way the music fits with it is what made it not only a work of art, but it touched my heart. Yeah, corny, but good job United, I'm with ya...those other 4....they don't count

  • We live short live don't we?

  • Fav aswell but I hate to see the iconic United logo and colors go due to the merge with continental :(

  • @Prometheus100194 agreed!

  • @Prometheus100194 Time move forward. So do airlines.

  • I love the entire animated commercial campaign United's ad agency has developed over the years. This is my favorite. @Vektorer - this commercial can indeed strike a chord deep inside someone. It does each time I see it. Simply masterful.

  • beautiful... just an amazing commercial

    A+

  • The United brand is too iconic to throw it away for the generic Continental globe.

  • yay ive been looking for this. i still remember this from back then. it's that memorable!

  • Type "airline commercial parody" for a look at how things have changed.

  • Nice commercial, I like.

  • This was the only TV ad that I looked forward to seeing again...and again. If it's possible for an ad to strike a chord deep inside someone, this one can do it.

  • Where's the part where the old man is tied in a wheelchair and crapping in his pajamas in a nursing home?

  • @hiroguam That's the Sequal "I wish I could fly"

  • @Tigerman1138 ..Thanks Tiger....I'm a little cynical (aren't we all ) about airlines and big companies overall. When that commercial was made I was less so.

  • the BEST commercial EVER!!

  • Does anyone remember the commercial where the Parrot was plinking out the notes on the Piano with his beak....and at the end the piano gets lots of keys hit with one of those long notes and the Parrot looks over the top of the piano...like how did I do that without two hands and lots of fingers. I thought it was great and also thought it was United Airlines playing the same song heard here. Anyway I think this series of commercials is awesome.

  • I am a second generation united employee, and this series of commercials, and this one especialy are definatly touching. I am proud these commercials represent us.

  • @MyleneJ My favorite is "The Interview"---the one with the applicant who puts on two different shoes. He's wondering around Central Park, in my mind, before his return flight...the status of his job up in the air. Suddenly his phone rings, it is either his head hunter or the HR of the firm, and HE GETS THE JOB! He jumps for joy and falls asleep on the flight home, his worries abated. :) So nice.

  • @Tigerman1138 tell me more...why is it so nice...remember he tries many ties before going with the power suit look...

  • @kappelmeister123 Why? It's the fight we all have been going through, are facing, and more now than ever living. He's looking for work, he has the same worries we do, and the JOYS we can share. I love how he gives the interview, keeps on target, and does it all knowing he's wearing those different shoes. His worries are our worries, during the low point of the music, and his JOYS OUR JOYS during the height. Just so on target.

  • @Tigerman1138 well, said

  • The best United Commercial ever

  • I think it can be said that it would be objectively wrong to hate this commercial. Despite any of its content whatsoever, it is already better than 99% of all commercials simply by virtue of not consisting of a loud narrator screaming at you for 30 seconds over obnoxiously loud drum backed music.

  • I don't like united when my brother and I went to new jersy from guam we didnt get any meal but beverages!!

  • That was a great commercial......

  • This beautiful commercial is made/directed by Michael Dudok de Wit. He also made the Oscar winning animated short Father and Daughter. He's one of my favorite animators :) I also love all the other animated United commercials.

  • Whats The Song In The Beginning

  • Gershwin maybe

  • United often creates their own intro to the particular part of the Rhapsody in Blue that they end up using. Thus, it might not be an actual song and was made specifically for this commercial.

  • this is my favorite United commercial. very classy, with dramatic music in the beginning.

    A+

  • Yup that's Redford. Once again, as much as I am a fan of the Gershwin 1980's/90's commercials from United. This commercial so beautifully done in a minute summarized United from early on to present is a work of art...truly.

  • isn't Robert Redford the voice over?

  • This is the best commercial I have ever seen, great animation and music. Very symbolic going through life from a boy to old person.

  • @raspberrian Indeed!! Oh boy....I'm already missing those ads.....

  • best commercial of the year.

  • Great video. I love the animation.

  • I've always loved UNITED's advertisements, especially the ones that are heavy on the Gershwin. For once the music fell into the background with such fine animation. Truly a work of art.

  • YES I found it! I saw this commercial during a visit to my grandparents in NYC and I loved it, I still love it. how it's animated and drawn is what I love!

  • I was looking for this one too! If you enjoy this one, make sure to check out the "making of" videos. My favorite is "The Interview", our job hunter is wearing two different shoes!

  • uh, and where can i find those?

  • One Of The Best Flight Videos I Have Seen

  • Interesting how they incorporate rhapsody in blue to the themes of all of their commercials

  • They do that because they own the rights to that song. It also used to be the opener of all of their safety announcements, going with an intro screen that scrolled "welcome" in various different languages. They purchased it for $500,000. It will become public domain around 2020 though.

  • Wow I didn't know that. I like how they play around with the tune in the different commercials, and how they modify it each time to the mini story in the commercial.

  • Most of the exerpts are direct cuts from the song; Gershwin uses the theme a dozen different ways in his own version so there are a lot of variations for United to choose from. I've only heard one commercial that doesn't use a direct exerpt from the song itself.

  • I like the story behind this commercial and how everything comes full circle in the end.

  • I LOVE the beginning of the song.

  • People are sad who love something to pathetic.

  • aw how sad, poor old man. LOVE UNITED

  • THIS specific commercial if my FAVE of ALL time, out of everything else including the other UA's commercials. I believe I heard it during Christmas, and that's why I love it so much.

    LOVE Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

  • I love UAL, this song is one reason why. This is a sweet commercial, I love UAL.

  • Amazing! United´s "It´s time do fly" commercials are great! The best ever made for an airline in the US.

  • legit, thanks for finding that out man

  • From a Trivers/Myers press release page:

"The Museum of Modern Art [has r]ecognize[d] United Airlines' commericial 'A Life' as a work of art....and selected [it] as part of its permanent collection....the visuals are set to an original piece of music by Trivers/Myers Music, which then unfolds into an arrangement of Gershwin's 'Rhapsody in Blue,' United Airlines' signature musical theme."

So I guess it's an original piece.

  • what is this song? i know the second half is gershwin but what is the beginning? please tell me

  • Thanks for posting this. I love this commerical!

  • Lovely commercial!
