Great bass playing from Mark Gray, this song stands the test of time, if you can get past the bad hair, eighties fashion and lip synching. I have enjoyed this song since it came out in the eighties, there is another longer version on the 'tube somewhere.
This song was around for about 2 seconds in the fall of '87. I thought it was an awesome dance track. I was such a fan of this tune. I remember rocking out to it at a stop light one night back in the day. It just grazed the Top 40 (#37)
The Wa Wa Nee CDs from Amazon U.S are selling for about $70 ea. I just bought the same ones in Japan for about $10. If you want me to buy any (I'll take a cut of course) Let me know.
OMG...I have the tape of wa wa nee and used to be part of there fan group!!! this is my era...hehehe dam I old...so what does that make them...wonder what happen to lead singer
mark gray the bass player was in a band called Gank, it also had paul wheeler the drummer from Icehouse they were awesome did any1 out there see them, im a muso myself, so when i saw them i thought f##k, this is good.
Mr Paul Gray ,,,very interesting character, met him backstage at a gig one night, very heavily influenced by guess who? Prince , Jacko , James brown, Elvis, and the Beatles, all clever songwriters,,,, not particularly great singers. Love this song.
As a musician, when I heard this song back in the 80's it floored me because I always wanted to write catchy songs like this, and this was so good, as pop songs go. This was a song i wanted to write myself, but didn't have the talent I guess.
Trust me man ya got talent its been a lot of garbage on tha airwaves and on tv that was considered "catchy" I mean "Who Let the Dogs Out"? "Thong Song"? come on..Im sure ya talented this song however I can see how this was catchy I was I was mature enuff in 86 but I was only 3 so
Trust me its more than that just that song REALLY REALLY sucked while gems like this are called "gay" etc. I wish I was a teenager in tha 80's I wouldve definitely rocked this out I just got tha cassette of WA WA NEE on ebay so maybe I will get a chance to let em know its more than mainstream rap, pop, and garbage out there!
Australian youtubers: anyone see the lady comic imitating the sideways dance on "The Sideshow" (ABC TV) last Saturday night? Classic. Prompted me to come looking for this. :)
I still love it.
