You dont need HL2,all you need is Source SDK Base and any game from Steam that uses the Source engine..I used it with CS:S

Hmmmm..it seems the server you were playing on had semi-low gravity, thats why you jump so high. Anywhos, a good tip on madness, when starting out, as soon as you spawn, hit your space bar. This "clicks" for you much faster than using your mouse.
