It didn't post the first part. I was with you up till the awards. I feel that's the same as A-list. I think talent can show talent, that people all have something to offer. I think the AusOne gathering will be more like this instead of Toronto and the hype. I was disappointed with the video offering info. I thought it was a tv ad, selling people. Sorry.
Thanks for the feedback. A lot of folks complain about the award ceremony part -- a response vid may be in order. The award ceremony being proposed here is one where talent is acknowledged no matter how few subscribers the person has. This is a critical aspect of the plan because it keeps the "A-listers" -- those with the most subscribers -- from dominating the event. As mentioned here, a committee of YT users can be established for the sole purpose of scouting for this kind of talent. thoughts?
And just to invite people to be with the other people they watch or even know personally. I'd go to a gathering to meet the people, that's all.
People showing their talent is fine, I just don't care for it getting competitive. I know I may be alone in this view, I'm just stating mine. I can't even get any videos up, but one day I will. The idea is inclusive. Sorry to post twice, just didn't have enough room.
I'm talking about 7.7.07. This video was posted last year. As mentioned in the video description, I'm passing this video around again because I believe the ideas in it are still relevant. I'll try to spread it every time there is a You Tube gathering coming up.
If you'd like to do something like this on 888, I guess the way to go about it is to post a video asking those who will attend the 888 gathering to submit a short (perhaps 30 secs to a minute) video to be screened as part of a montage on 888. Form a small group of people that will take on the editing, and another group to secure the viewing space. I can't make the 888 event, but I'm happy to help edit the material. Shoot me an email if you're interested.
Before asking folks to submit video clips for a montage, you may want to test the idea with them. You can make a video saying that you have viewing space available (only if this is true, of course) and that it'd be great to show You Tube content in it -- a great way to celebrate the You Tube community and so on...Give them a window of time (perhaps 1 to 3 weeks) to vote yes or no on the idea through the comments section. Just one of many ways to do this democratically. Happy to talk more.
You idea is discriminatory. Some vlogs aren't about talent/popularity. Some vlogs are just TUTORIALS...no people are even shown in these video's. end the oppression! Also, No one wants to see 2+ hours of yt entertainment. Barf fest.
I love many the tutorial videos. I certainly don't want this to be about popularity. Perhaps we can do away with the requirement of showing one's face on one's channel. The tutorial people can then come up with their own 30 second sequence of images for the montage.
I know that many people -- including myself -- wouldn't sit through 2+ hours of You Tube entertainment. But they might sit through it if they expect to see something they made on the big screen -- that's the whole idea.
I know there are many versions of the montage idea already on Satellite TV, but what I propose is radically different because:
1. My montages aim to be as inclusive as possible.
2. My idea involves having You Tubers meet to watch themselves at a real movie house -- not on satellite TV. This is to help show, in dramatic fashion, that You Tube has made everyone a star. As I say in the proposal:
uploading a video onto You Tube is a lot like being screened at the movies for a day.
i LOVE THE INCLUSIVE SPIRIT YOU'RE PUTTING FORTH! These all sound like great Ideas. I'd love to be a part of such an event. I hope this catches on. Have you forwarded this to any site managers at utube?
Thanks for the feed back. by the way, the tags were already there, since it was a response to a video by Nalts. I guess next time I make a video I'll consciously add common tags to increase views. Agan, thanks for the boost. - Juan
Thanks for the comment Jen! You're the second one so far who has said the editing will take a long time; but, how long is too long for a project as worthy as this? As i said to MGM, the montages (we will definitely need more than 1) should take no longer to edit than the average mainstream film. I don't think it'd be necessary, but sponsors of the project can help us get paid professionals on the job. I just don't understand what the big deal is... Again, thanks for the comment!
I agrea everyone is a star but there shouldn't be an award ceremony unless we all get awards. Because then we're back to who are the "A listers." And there shouldn't be any A listers.
Thanks for commenting! The YT gatherings should not revolve around the 'A listers' - those with the most subscribers. Talent, on the other hand, should be recognized and encouraged so that we can continue to benefit from it. Here's an idea for an inclusive award ceremony: YT can have special coins made at very low cost. At, say, 5 cents each, the coins can be bought by users, who can then give them out at the gathering as a way of saying "nice vid" or "love your channel." What do you think?
Thanks! The montages must include EVERYONE, anything less would be unfair and divisive. Only a fraction of all YT channels meet the 3 criteria I mention in the vid. Even if all channels met the criteria, the editing can be dramatically simplified if folks submit their own 15 to 30 second clips to a designated part of the website. You can even divide the job among the YT community groups. The post-production process for each montage should take no longer than that of the average mainstream film.
Thank you so much for your support, Steve! If you like the idea, please spread this video in any way you can - put it in your favorites, or feature it on your chanel if you like, or make a video in support of the concept...Again, thanks a bunch!
I understand your feeling of not wanting to be part of something that may be entirely about 'you tube fame.' This is exactly what my proposal seeks to address...If you like this proposal, please spread this video to others, or make a video in support of the ideas presented here, even if you're not sure you'd like to take part in any of it. Again, thank you very much for letting me be part of your group and for commenting on this issue!
I really like the "everyone is a star" philosophy. That's what's great about online video, and I agree that the "A lister" thing is working against that.
Mr. Nalty :) Thank you very much for weighing in... I'd love to hear more from you on how best to express the "everyone is a star" philosophy at the gatherings. I understand the limitations of my proposal; and the idea that everyone would get excited about watching themselves at a movie theater is definitely questionable...Hope you are well. - Juan

how could this be organized? we could possibly show something like this at 888 at the Science Centre...but the content has to be community organized.

The movie theatre is a great idea, man.
However, *EVERYBODY* on youtube? That would take ages to edit...
