  • I wonder if the ECM tune was out of whack for the engine swap. But I can't imagine it being all that far off, the displacement difference isn't huge.

There could also be differences in the final drive ratio from other Celebs, and I think you mentioned in another video that you had put 16" wheels on it. And of course all the miscellaneous sensors and general tuning issues that can degrade performance after so many years.

I love the 60v6, I'd rather have it than any overcomplicated modern 4cyl.

  • @yorgle11 The 2.8 and 3.1 used the same computer and tune. It turned out, after running the car on a dyno, that the engine hadn't been swapped though. I don't think I had the 16s in this video, but I sized the tires to match the stock overall diameter, so final drive wasn't affected. It had a 3.33 final stock; I built a transmission with a 3.73 final, and didn't really gain that much performance. Quarter mile time only fell by less than hald a second.

  • @leftventricle

The dyno numbers you posted in the description seem a bit low even for the 2.8.. are you sure it wasn't just a really tired 3.1? Maybe the PO put the combo together without replacing rings, valve job, maybe a worn cam, etc.

Is that a 4T60 that you built with 3.73 ratio? I've thought about doing that someday (or having it done, I'm a little fearful of transmissions). My Fiero has a 3.33 TH125C, if the trans ever dies I'm thinking a 4T60 at around 3.73 would be a good swap.

  • @yorgle11 The dyno numbers are consistent with a 2.8 and 24% drivetrain loss. If it were a 3.1, then it would have had 31% loss, which is too much, even for a GM transmission. The trans I had built ended up with a 3.73, because the shop misread the chain ratio I requested; I asked for a 3.33 diff with 37/33 chain (3.06 overall), they put in a 33/37.

  • first car i ever owned. got it back in '95 and had it for about 4 years. never had anything major issues with it.think it had around 125k on it when i finally got rid of it. even though it wasn't very pretty it was still a great, reliable car.

  • try to make it last longer

warm it up when starting dont turn the wheel without moving

and keep the usual 5,00 miles a real thats perfect!

  • Duke George the Fifth is a cute little smartass. I'm sorry you couldn't keep him, best of luck to you and your Buick & Pontiac! See you on the forum!

  • thats funny i have a 6 year old car with around 98k on it .you don`t drive much compared to me.

  • @gokartbuyer It had low miles when I bought it; in June 2007 it had 70k miles. I just sent it to the junkyard with 129k. So nearly 60k in just over three years. I drove the hell out of this car.

  • @leftventricle i put around 70k in 3 year i then gave it to my sister, who drives less than me i got a el camino that is my daily driver that i am currently restoring (slowly).

  • Is that so bad car so 100k miles is surpricing?

  • @IGP84 No, it is not "so bad car." Kindly fuck off.

  • Great cars...had an 86 Eurosport sedan with the carb'd 2.8 that got to 300,000km on the original engine and tranny...would have kept it on the road but one of the subframe mounts gave out and dropped the engine partway out lol. Was still running and driving fine too...oh well, still have it stashed behind a barn, tied the engine back up with rope LOL... still haven't figured out what to do with it.

  • Had one. Got to 140K mi. Would have run a bit longer, but the body turned to lace. Seemed to be common among this car. That and wonder transmissions that needed a rebuild every 40K. Wonder why? Oh yeah-

    THEY'RE GM (Great Mistake)

Barry Soetoro should have invested our tax dollars elsewhere and let this albatross of a company die on the vine..

  • @USAon3 No politics in my comments please.

  • @leftventricle

What politics? Stating my opinion about a shit auto company is politics?

Get a life. Fuck you and die.

  • @USAon3 I don't think I'll be obliging you.

  • I swear i hear a bad wheel bearing... Does anyone else hear it??

  • @Obsoliit Yeah, at the time the right front hub was on its way out. Good ear!

  • nice vid. i got a 1991 oldsmoble. she made it to 200 thousand not to long ago. now has 201,2xx miles on it to this day. got to luv the old GM's

  • Why would you put so much care into such a ugly worthless car. At leaste get a personal little cheap two door. Have some pride man. "Yep. I take care of my cars." "Oh really. What do you drive?" "A 1989 Chevy Celebrity Station Wagon." "...........Oh! So you're a virgin?"

  • @hippie1093204 Hahahahahahahaha. Hahahaha. Haha.

    Oh wait, you're serious.

Your logic is flawed. Why else would someone own and drive a station wagon? It's a family car. I have three daughters. Who are you to judge what I put my money into?

  • can you just here the tune from sandford and son?...lmao im sure if he wasnt filming him self he be speeding! lol

  • @MrITALIANGUY72 No sir, I follow every traffic law to the letter.

  • these things last forever if you keep them maintained my friend doug has an 89 celebrity also and it has 440,000 miles on it and it is still runnign strong. take good care of it and you will have this car for a few more years

  • yey way to go 100

my car 140k in kilometers cool

  • how is gas economy ?

  • 20 miles per gallon in the city, 28 on the highway.

  • Nice troll attempt. Marauder was 03-04 only. Try a little harder next time.

  • nice celeberty when i turn sixteen im buying a 1990 oldsmobile regency 98

    great car

  • I hear that. I remember rolling my 1995 Chevy S10 over 100,000 miles in June. It's at 159,000 miles now and the engine still runs smoothly. Transmission on the other hand is going to need to be rebuilt soon though.

  • I took a 89 euro sport to my prom in 91 lol. Many fond memories in the Celeb.

  • Looks like it has the Eurosport type steering wheel and gauge package. I had an 89 Eurosport that was a real nice car. I wish I had kept it now but after 173,000+ miles it needed major repairs that I could not afford.

  • definitely a proud point me and my dad have 7 celebritys. 84 euro convertable with 107, 84 euro ho, 86 euro coupe, 86 euro wagon, 87 sedan, 87 vr with a 3.1 and a 88 coupe. all have 2.8 except the vr. what group are you on?

  • I LOVE these cars! You cant seem to find these that arent rusted to shit though. Does this have the 4 cyl or 6 cyl?

  • I think I said in the video, but it's got a 3.1 MFI V6.

  • Yeah my bad I wrote that comment before you said it.

  • @xScoobyDoo82x it had an engine swap from the 2.8 v6 to it brother the 3.1 v6 the 3.1 v6 replaced the 2.8's the 2.8' v6's where also used in calilers and other gm cars and also the s10 trucks and blazers and yes they r the same engines they r just mounted different .

  • @compwiz878 Partially correct. The truck engines used the generation 1 design, which was iron heads and throttle body injection. Durable, to be sure, but a bit down on both power and economy when compared to an aluminum-headed counterpart.

  • i got one too great car but i got a sedan 88 with a 3 speed tranny and 2.8

  • A proud moment for sure--make sure you're filming at 200k too! My '87 had 172k miles and the engine and trans. were still great. My buddy had an '88 wagon with 195k miles that got totalled when some teeny-bopper blew a stop sign and broadsided him.

    God bless the Chevrolet Celebrity.
