Ballet isn't just a dance style- it's an artistic medium.
Like any other paint or piece of charcoal, you can use it for technicality, precision, accuracy- or you can use it to truly convey the spirit of beauty.
What I see is not a ballet dancer. I see a beautiful, yet wounded swan that is fighting against death with a desperate wish to stay alive... Heartbreaking, really. But oh so beautiful...
@retteuns That's the choreography though... It's a tool to help create that wounded, life draining away quality that everyone is raving about. Notice how she starts the dance with well-placed wrists but as her character dies, the wrists start going making her look weaker. It's a nuance thing and a powerful nuance at that.
Really perfection without being saccharine. Bourrees are phenomenal, and her arms are just not human. That kind of artistry cannot be totally taught--she has unique physical gifts and an artistic soul. I always thought Plisetskaya was the best, but the river of Time flows on....
I like it! It doesn't seem like she's dancing ballet. Looks like she's using ballet to dance the role of the swan. i know im kind of not making sense but it does to me.. :P
I wish I had watched this before I performed this dance three years ago. I was very literal with all the movements, but she shows how to make it all artistically interpreted without compromising the routine of the variation.
I think that the comparatively long length of Lopatkina's torso, limbs, hands and feet only add to her ability to interpret movements. This is not to take away from her technical ability, which is just stunning. However, with added lengths come added difficulties to control--as Pavlova also knew. Very beautiful.
Gorgeous! Most beautiful dying swan I've ever seen. Her movement is incredible and technically perfect. Love to watch her performance again and again.Touches me deep inside!
Can someone imagine how long it took to her to dance like this? How many parties that she has not gone? Practice, practice and practice, to give us a so beautiful moment like this. Rodrigo.
Ask a child to pretend that they're sad and are they going to do? make a " crying " face.
Exagerated expressios are the most obvius solutions... that's why I think Uliana is perfect in this role... we can see the melancholy and the sadness in her eyes and the way she moves.. and THAT is a really difficult thing for a ballerina to do .
You are so stupid that is not ever Pretty.....sorry but your comment about this performace was totally out place, they all have their own style and tecniques , and can't be judge comparing with other performances
no its not, its was choreographed by Fokine for anna pavlova in 1905. Anna didn't have the strongest technique (weak feet) but she was very lyrical and expressive. Maya Plisetskaya is also famousfor her interpretation. I also like galina ulanova and nina ananiashvili, but lopatkina's my favorite!
i'm playing this for UIL Solo & Ensemble and that was amazing. the emotion was fantastic. in a way this helped me cause now i know what emotion i need to use and what thoughts i need to be using. ES MIR GUT!
This is amazing. Im doing this dance at the ritaco center next month. i've been watching this over and over so that i can try to dance with the same emotion and grace. As a dancer i look up to her.
Trnascendental! One of the most tragic swans ever. The work with the hands is amazing and reminds me of Plisetskaya. Lopatkina is the ruling Queen of ballet right now and for the next 20 years, as I see her.
i feel her emotion is too choreographed. she dances without the fluity and grace of the swan that makes this piece sad. she seems not to be struggling from death until the very end where she just runs around lacking any sense of true fear of death. where's the raw emotion of the swan? watch Maya Plisetskaya's Dying Swan and understand how a swan truely dies.
well, that must be cause she's not really thinking about her own death as it does not really matters to her, but rather feeling deception and sorrow for someone whose life can't be crushed any further, having lost her true form, her freedom and her love. I think her performance is really good and she is a great dancer. But she doesnt create the emotion that Pavlova does when she performs. Pavlova's performance is heartbreaking, the way her arms move, her expressions. In the beggening of the performance she doesnt even seem like she is dying. But I do have to give her props, I really loved the ending. But I do think that Pavlova's Dying Swan is much more beautiful and tragic.
