Where is all the sound coming from that isn't coming from their instruments? They make it sound like the recording from the soundtrack, even though four string instruments can't produce all those sounds. Do they have them hooked up to electric midi sounds? Or do they just have other sounds playing from speakers along with the quartet?

I could be wrong, though.

A lot of the parts are different (slightly) from the soundtrack, so I have to believe that they just have other parts attached to what they are playing.

The Fountain soundtrack was actually done by both the Kronos Quartet and the band Mogwai, who as you can see is not present. So in order to have it be the same song, I believe they just played the other musical parts through the sound system. Sounds great regardless.
