  • Much better that justin "shit" bieber

  • after all these years you still have the x factor phill for ever

  • His voice sounds so weak now...............

  • for the first time in 23 years? not true! he sang this one in Berlin in 1990 and Paris in 1997, both amazing performances!!

  • @peavy82 : I think they reffer only to the times when Phil played this song both vocals&piano. Otherwise, he certainly played the song more than once in 23 years:)

  • @CatalinPop Yes, you're right, I didn't pay much attention to what it says in the brackets (play & sing). Anyway it's a hard song to sing both on vocals and on piano in the key of D flat but he did a pretty good job!

  • My favorite song back in 1985...such sweet memories, thanks Phil, you're fabulous!

  • He's seems like such a warmhearted and genuinely kind person.

Tarzan wouldn't be the same without his musical influence.

  • Also, he's played this song publicly more than the times listed above. There's a YouTube video of him playing it in Dallas in 85.

  • His voice is still genius, his tone is still there. What he has lost is the ability to hit the notes on "there's nothing LEFT HERE" and "BACK TO ME," which are insanely hard notes to hit for a male of any ability, non falsetto.

Whatever, it's still endearing to me. They say an artist suffers for his art, and there's something painfully beautiful about the way he "hits" those notes at this age.

  • @blinkuldhc Love your comment. :)

  • After watching the Live Aid video and then this one, it's almost criminal to see Phil's vocal power decline. There were probably 3 challenging notes for him in '85. Now - you can see that when he sang this song, he may have been pushing the edge of his vocal envelope. It's sad but inevitable, I guess.

  • I'm so shocked... He's so lovable. And this is SUCH an amazing song. considering he (according to the description) hasn't played it in 20 years (let alone listened to it possibly), I can understand the lyrics flub...but I'm surprised his voice isn't what it used to be. Do anyone know any artists that can maintain voice quailty with age?

  • @misskity6 paul rodgers :)

  • @misskity6 Listen to Daryl Hall sing at age 65. He hasn't lost much. Its amazing.

  • @azucho98 True statement. Daryl is still amazing.

  • @misskity6

    yes, David Gilmour.

  • never the less, whether he played it three times or more... this is stil a beautiful perfomance, so emotionel, just a piano and an amaizing voice.

  • He played it on the No Ticket Required show

  • Okay, I just saw a video of him playing it in Dallas. So, was it a backing track? Because he looked like he was playing. so weird.

  • Wow. He recorded it, hit ONE wrong key at Wembley, and he never played it again? I just saw that video for the first time (Wembley) and commented on how he just smiled through it, and how lovely that was. I guess it really bothered him...enough to not sit at the piano for it again anyway. That's too bad.

  • Kittyphilly1 of course he messes it up he hasn't payed it in over 20 Years!

  • One of the Greatest Artist of all Times!!!

  • so funny, he messed up on on his own song 1:19

  • @kittyphilly1 You find that so amusing that you had to post it three times? ;)

  • so funny, he messed up on on his own song 1:19

  • so funny, he messed up on on his own song 1:19

  • this is a great version . and the reason is because its PHIL COLLINS !

  • This song is for Orianne Cevey.,. She is woman of life phil

  • How many filled in the drum bit around 1:49/1:50? :)

  • @kamwrites Totally! It makes the song complete!

  • i am seriously in love with him.

  • I really liked this song after I first heard it on the radio an I can now play the bass part :)

I think I like it because of the odd key.

I like songs in odd keys.

I do like other songs as well...

  • Are they speaking in Scotish or what ?

  • Your voice would start to get weak too if you'd been singing non-stop for audiences all over the world for 20+ years.

  • He is really GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD~

  • Why didn't he just lower it some?

  • @DogSwede1 In concert, he has - but he never learned how to play it in it's lower key (it's already in such a weird key!), so here he is, playing it how he wrote it again. (With less screaming!)

  • @elipper That's right. His piano playing is more memorizing where to put his fingers than anything, so a key change messes him up. For someone who never "properly learned" how to play he's incredibly proficient.

  • absolutely incredible. Never seen a drumer be able to play a piano. What a talent

  • 02:35 look at the reporter, he was so into the music!

lol, i have to say this is one of my fav songs, the lyrics touched me like the reporter.

  • Im only 16 but i still love this song and the 80s legend singing it

  • This song is just perfect.

  • Phil is nothing short of being a savant !

  • Whaouh what an amazing song. I've been listening to this ever since i was a kid and still not bored of it.That is back in the days when there was real talent. Unfortunately those days are long gone. Look at all the singers today.... they will be forgotten in a few years. Phil you are a rare true talent. Thanks for all the years of great songs you offered us.

  • His voice is like an angel, reaching into me, and grabbing hold where no one else has ever been. His countenance like a bridge between soul and spirit. he is the greatest love of sound i ever knew, not because he is master of all highs and lows, but because of what drives him to write and to deliver just so. oh that he were a vagrant, and i could just sit and listen to him night and day, without the intrusion of money, work, or world. No one else moves me this way, Phil Collins.

  • Collins DID play it more than just three times... Two times at Live Aid, when he wrote it and he played it at least one more time. No tickets required show.

  • @usenameinvalid uhh, the No Jacket Required Tour was before Live Aid. It is heavily documented that Phil played the CP70 piano on his NJR Tour, accompanied w/ his band.

When Phil says "I played it twice," he really meant solo in front of an audience. After that, he lost his confidence in playing the song all together, so he no longer plays keyboard in it.

Personally, I like this in the original key. Phil changed it way too much over the years, to include a sax, an extended vocal outro, etc.

  • 46.8 MILLION IN THE DIVORCE.

  • all the live shows, all the hit's...the millions of fans, the deafening roars of the crowd..Genesis..Solo..Disney contracts..happy kids that grew up on the songs, an Officer and a Gentlemen..romance..loss..Life..poor, hungry for it, some money, more money, up coming band of the 80's..favorite artist, MTV, awards, shows, live aid..solo.. limousines,..household name.. AND ALL SHE HAS TO DO IS **CK HIS DICK TO GET A JUDGE TO AWARD HER WHAT SHE SO FUCKING DESERVES?. 25MILLION Welcome to real life.

  • Phil sounds awesome live.....excellent performance. Brings back memories.

  • i love music

    Phil Collins

  • i love music

  • เพลงเพราะมากๆเลย

    ฟังแล้วคิดถึงวันเก่าๆ

    ขอบคุณมากคับ Phil Collins

  • the best !!!

  • Real Talent.

  • I wonder how he could just waste his money with a typical Swiss lady!

  • Wonderful still to hear your voice 2 years after your 2006 final show...ope you change your mind and come back to Australia for at least one show here in Melbourne....:)

  • Superb !!

  • love mariah's version

  • You can see the piano errors in the youtube vid of Live Aid. But that doesn't. matter. This very moving. I'll always love Phil Collins. He is now old but he's still pure gold! :D

  • ein schöner Mann ...."von allen Seiten".....mit ebensolcher Stimme...

  • Gracias, maestrazo!!!!! Eres lo máximo!!!!

  • That´s the proof that techniqal skill doesn´t mean so much in music.

The feeling of his performances is tangible, that´s very rare.

  • Amazing....Just Amazing!

  • Falsetto was weak, shame cos the rest of his vocal performance was spotless.

  • WOW...thats only great !

  • He is excellent. A multi-instrumentalist and one of the most iconic counter tenor voices of all time, not to mention a songwriter of amazing talent.

  • it hurts me to see this man getting old. he is like a father with an extreme talent

  • well worth waiting for my favorite Phil Collins Song ever

  • Phil is the best

  • You should look two peroformances of this song that Phil've made.

    1.Live Aid '85

    2.Songbook '08

Both shows that his real musician with heart on his work and not some fake, nowadays artist dollar signs on the eye.

  • Fuck me he's still got it!

  • With one hand that has lost almost all its sensitivity... a medical condition that is getting worst with time. We love you Phil. Thanks.

  • More than just "eighties legend"!

  • Phil Collins sings with such heart felt emotion that you can feel it right away. This song obviously has a great attachment to his life.

And to think, Madonna snubbed him when he asked for an autograph!

  • I love you Phil!!! I almost cry seeing you!! eternally great!! awesome!!

  • The guy is still in the 90s :)

  • @itwsw :80s :)

  • Brutal!!

  • Let it be known, Phil Collins shall grow to be at least 105 years old. Thanks for putting this up m8, love this song :-)

  • What a bad ass!!!!

  • It's such a beautiful song.

  • You said he only ever played and sang this 3 times. Twice in one day for Live Aid and when he wrote it. I found a video of him singing and playing this in Dallas and he nails it.

  • @norskyver thats not true...he has sang it live more than 3 times...and ok well he didnt prepare him self for this intiomate performance...listen to him live and even now he can nail it just had to learn it again...still godd performer

  • This is such a sad performance. Is he ill?

  • Comment removed

  • phil collins variates in performance somtimes he sounds like he did back in the 80's. Back then the screaming sounded painful maybe thats why he cant reach the high notes now. Never mind you could sound like elton john.

  • so sad to see him struggling..the worlds greatest!

  • @debbiedougal64

struggling? this sounds pretty good to me...

  • @apptarheel Then you are obviously deaf. He can hardly hit the "high" notes, even in a weak falsetto.

  • isso é que é cantos, mais de 60 anos e a mesma voz! grande Phill!

  • Time goes by and we do get old,but phil collins music will never get old i'ts timeless

  • I danced to this at my weeding. Not a good choice. I divorced after 10 yrs and played this song like 3 millions times. After awhile, I started listening "I don't care Anymore"

  • Hope he never lost his voice!

  • It's sad to see Phil, and the rest of us age. Time does go by very quickly.

  • Phil..you have always been amazing!

  • And songwriter

  • Best singer, performer, drummer, pianist of all time. My idol.

  • the best! the original!!! simply the best ever!

  • @Cinquelini sorry FREDDIE MERCURY IS

  • makes me wanna cry

  • Phil is awesome or was awesome. Such a shame that with the years, the voice goes with it. Sux to get old.

  • he is just not giving it his all, he is one of the rare artists who is lucky enough to still have most of his voice left...unlike the elton johns etc. just watch his version of this 2 years earlier in paris...big sound system behind and he still has it.

  • @sunnyviewmusic Yeah, exactly....2 years ago. A lot happens to a body in 2 years, especially as you get older. Listen, I'm a huge Phil Collins fan. I know his every raise of the eyebrow, his every body movement, and his every facial expression...You can tell he's struggling thru this.

  • Ok sir...you are obviously not a singer or you would know exactly what I mean...he has nothing on his voice and it is not amped at all...he can either go hard out and risk it sounding crap with out the gear behind him or he can go into falsetto. I met phil back in Feb...and that is NOT 2 years ago...I'm not saying he sounds the same as the 80s but he can stil get the notes with ease if he wants to.

  • he sounds like more like his self on this. i would of said after the we cant dance album he started to lose his range. later on he sounded like he was on helium.

  • phil collins is amazing.

  • Un grande,un genio,il mio preferito!Ma la voce inizia a non supportarlo più,eh|

  • Woww... 60 years old, still better than all these 'new singers'

  • What a legend this guy is!

  • He's not the best Pianoist, but he does the best of it

    And if you hear a litlle bit, his Voice sounds a little bit like on A trick of the tail, pretty soft );

  • This clip is why Phil Collins is a legend. Not many music artists can pull something like this off without resorting to special effects!

  • very good!!!

  • He MUST have played it much more than a few times. There is video on you tube of him playing this song live on his No Jacket Required tour. So I would assume he played it for every show on that tour.

  • @smarsey Well he "played" it, but he had backing piano, which you can see from the NRJ video, so he didnt play the head parts like in the Live Aid performance.

  • El mejor de todos phill collins ex integrante de génesis

  • I think he should re-record some of his early songs with only piano and his voice. This just sounds spectacular and real!

  • amazing all the way phil !!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn he has such a beautiful voice... I can't even believe its live lol

  • aww. i STILL LOVE YOU PHIL YOUR A GOD!!!!!

  • phil un maestro a pesar d los años la clase no se pierde... la buena musica siempre estara presente con predestinados como tu.

  • I'd have to agree. One of the most underrated musicians there is. So many years of great music, he deserves recognition and I think a spot in the hall of fame.

  • I think Mr Collins is one of the most underated songsmiths , top- fucking drawer as far as I am concerned.

  • Some rumors that he has early Dementia/Alzheimers

I hope not. such a great talent, but judging by this performance? He most def has memory issues which lend credence to the rumor

  • shame, this isnt a good version at all!

The one at Wembley was brilliant, despite the little piano error!!!

  • @griffonsa be gentle hes old and his lung power isnt as good as before he deserves respect

  • hey dude, he's my all time favorite artist, so stop whining!

  • 23 years passing might have something to do with it.

  • I've been to many, many, many concerts, but I have not seen him live. It is one of my biggest regrets in my concert-going experience:(

  • there's nothing that will ever change about his performances, absolute greatness even as age takes over. Graceful performance, some great quality will always shine through

  • Phil is a talented man, no-one can take that away from him. It doesn't matter how much damage the media or Ex-wives do to him Phil will remain a talented individual.

  • This is one of the great songs of the 80's. And Phil Collins of course , his suiting voice.

And love to see legend singers like Phil singing their great songs in acoustic LIVE like this.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • My Music Father

  • Even with those funny mistakes on the chords or on the higher notes on the vocal part - What an intimate and fascinating performance by Phil Collins!

  • He nailed the piano, but age as always with singers (with the exception of Sinatra), has taken it's toll meaning the high notes are a bitch to try and reach.

  • Great phil Collins

  • Aww, you can't get frustrated you fuck it up sometimes! Everyone trips! You're still the best!

  • still touching to myself what the wonderful singer ever i made in my life

  • What is the name of the tv show? Someone can tell me that?

    Is it recorded on 2008?

  • Phil , you could miss all the notes, miss all the keys but you would never miss my admiration for you. Simply thank you for who you are and what you have accomplished.

  • A great musician, composer and singer - still at 60.

  • un genioo!

  • Phil Collins is one of the greatest & CREATIVE musicians that ever lived!

  • @RabbitWonderful GOD has not given unto any other artist; what HE has given unto phil collins, may this gift live forever with this legend...............

  • @RabbitWonderful lived? what do you mean lived? Pretty sure he still has a pulse...=X

  • woh hes gettin on now

  • After hearing this song,i knew how great musician Phil is. "One of worlds true talents"

  • Kurde. Na starość już tak nie wyciąga hehe ;]

  • You'd think he'd be able able to recite this song without reading lyrics or notes?

  • PURO DULZURA!!! INCREÍBLE!!

  • Damn... He is almost 60 years old, and he is still one of the greatest singers!

  • @Laustbech and his voice hasn't even changed, very hard to find artists like that!

  • Mucho sentimiento en este video maduro de Phil Collins. Hermosa canción, nunca pasará de moda.

  • PHIL IS THE BEST!!!!

  • Fico emocionada...realmente!

  • Raw and beautiful.

There is something that tugs at the heart seeing him like this, with all his past hits/concerts/fame, singing in this stripped down way. Like coming full circle.

  • could you post this entire interview? I would love to see all of it and not just the bit where he sings.

  • We all can and can't do certain things. Either way he created something great!

  • I saw him with genesis the year before, he hasn't lost his voice.

  • PHIL I'm sorry you have so many problems preventing it from HEALTH GETTING A NEW DISC,

  • I'm begging to get into the studio with him!!! Not for money or fame...just the chance of a lifetime to sit next to such talent and sing. I love Phil!

  • I love Phill for ever wonderfullll

  • Phil I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

do you want to marry me???

  • I love you phil
