So replacing the HT leads solved the problem?

Hi. In this case, just replacing the HT leads mede the complete recovery.

Have you tried to reset stepper motor? here are the instructions :
1) Start the engine and warm up to a normal working temperature.
2) Turn off the ignition.
3) Turn on ignition to stage II (with electric window available but don't start the engine).
4) Press the accelerator all the way down and fully release 5 times repeatedly.
5) Wait for at least 15 seconds and then turn off the ignition.

Good to know you fixed it, an unstable idle on an MGF is usually the stepper motor

have you checked the throttle body? these have a tendency to stick and it is better to upgrade to the 52mm alloy.

Hi. thanks for the comment. reason of the unstableness is due to the leakage of the electric current from the No.4 ignition lead.
after replacing it, idling gets stable.
