@MultiPlayaaa what do you know about russians? wha do you know about Russia everything?! Remember what the dormouse said: "Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"
Shining trivia. Because Danny Lloyd was so young and since it was his first acting job, Stanley Kubrick was highly protective of the child. During the shooting of the movie, Lloyd was under the impression that the film he was making was a drama, not a horror movie. He only realized the truth seven years later, when, aged 13, he was shown a heavily edited version of the film. He didn't see the uncut version of the film until he was 17 - eleven years after he'd made it.
I don't get why Kevin Dillon, and that black guy are dissing marijuana. If I was in the war, I would be intoxicating myself with weed, to calm my nerves lol. @luvpump1 Really? The best ever?? I think its up there with Casualties of War, Apocalypse Now, Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket but not the best ever!
@Tusc9969 Yeah ,Apocalypse now comparable.. better than FMJ even tho Stanley Kubrick directed it imo , & Saving private ryan ?? are you having a laugh ! .. So yeah, perhaps, the best ever
@luvpump1 Having a laugh? SPR has some of the most realistic combat footage ever filmed.
Most war movies, including Platoon appeal to a certain side of a person. While you are watching it,you get some feelings of wanting to be a part of it, they glorify the whole war thing a bit.

@Tusc9969 Uh, SPR is one of the most unrealistic war films ever made along with Apocalypse Now. It's a cool film but not very accurate. Weapons and gear-wise it is but there's just some things in it that are complete bullshit. The first 25 minutes of it ARE accurate but the rest of it is just nonsense. @Marty2475 Yeah, they left before the film got unrealistic. Or they were just so disgusted by how unrealistic it may have been in even the first 25 minutes.
@Transformers2themax lol Ok, number one- there isn't nor will there ever be, a war film that's 100% accurate...Unless it's a documentary film with actual war footage like the ones shown on the military channel!
Now, when I said SPR was realistic, I was referring to the film's cinematography, sound editing and the way the battle scenes were filmed... not it's storyline or plot! Only flaw the film has imo is that the plot is too contrived. Everything else was fine!
@Tusc9969 That's absolutely true. There never will be anything 100% accurate; still, Platoon and FMJ are the two closest the reality. The fact being that they were both written by Nam vets. @kyletango Wow. I have a lot of respect, man. Doesn't matter what happened, as far as I'm concerned, you really did serve your country. You know, I've always felt that the soldiers really had nothing to do with the politics of the war nor the cause of it. In reality, they're fighting the war itself.
Like I said, I have a lot of respect. Nam's been kind of a hobby for me. I read a lot on it and I collect a lot of militaria and replicas. In fact, I recently got a deactivated M26 Grenade, an ALICE backpack that was worn in Vietnam, and a fake M1911 that looks and works exactly like the real Nam-era model. I've also written 5 pages so far of the screenplay of my own Vietnam War film. It's about the 9th Infantry Division in the summer of '68 in the Mekong Delta. I'm reading a lot for accuracy.
@123Corpsegrinder Apocalypse Now as well is just an exaggeration of what war really is. It's cool looking, and it is very artistic; however, it really is not an accurate representation of the Vietnam War. There were a few parts of authenticity like the tiger, the bridge scene(my favorite), and the Stones "surf scene". But everyone knows a Lt. Colonel would not go rogue, and they certainly would not risk losing a C.I.A. Captain by sending him out to find the crazed officer......It's the '70s SPR.
@Transformers2themax Dude that battle scene was the best!!! the krauts would never taken that bridge, Americans kicked their ass like they did in reality in Europe.
@TheStickUpKid187 I'm sorry but--God, you are an idiot. You're just like all these other ignorant kids of the general public, feeding off the lies made by Hollywood. The only reason we won the war in the first place was because Hitler let his ego take over him. The Germans were a far more superior people in general. Their military, their weaponry, their battle tactics, etc. were so advanced, we used them against them. We're lucky we had Patton. Otherwise, we very likely would've lost the war.
@TheStickUpKid187 I'm sorry but--God, you are an idiot. You're just like all these other ignorant kids of the general public, feeding off the lies made by Hollywood. Their military, their weaponry, their battle tactics, etc. were so advanced, we used them against them. We're lucky we had Patton. Otherwise, we very likely would've lost the war.
@TheStickUpKid187 And for your information, this is coming from the nephew of a WWII German Wehrmacht Infantrymen reenactor with multiple degrees in history. I'd love to see the look on your face if you were put up against the amount of Germans that were in the Ramelle sequence. It was the "best" scene? That's an opinion; however, it being one of the most inaccurate scenes in the film is a fact. Not to say it's not a well done film; it just can't be compared to FMJ's or Platoon's authenticity.
@Transformers2themax of course, you would think the krauts may have won that battle, because you're a nephew of kraut wehrmacht soldier. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but a lot of german soldier gave up, they did NOT put up a good fight against the allies, sure they may have superior artillery but they surrender in many battles. Their devotion to fight for their country was weak, maybe they didn't want to fight for Hitler but wanted to live to go back their families.
@TheStickUpKid187 Wow, you are so racist. Yeah, my uncle is so totally a former "kraut" soldier. Yeah, I'm the nephew of a "kraut". Seems like mommy and daddy need to turn the NetNanny back on. You have to be one of the most absentminded people I've ever met on here. "Ooh, kraut soldier nephew"; that's probably how your feeble mind processes. Perhaps, you missed "nephew of a WWII German Wehrmacht Infantrymen reenactor"? REENACTOR, genius! If he was a former "kraut" soldier, he'd be dead! Lol.
@Transformers2themax Well, thats how i was raised, and damn proud of it. My great-grandfather was a paratrooper from 101st Airborne Infantry. He killed a lot of krauts, he told me a good hun is a dead hun. so don't get ass hurt if I call a german a kraut. Don't be a nazi cock sucker.
@Zscheesus actually mostly US and Soviet Union did all of the fighting, and NO the kruats wouldve never won because they are weak and surrender too many times, they are also cowards. Fuck germany, USA fuckin owns!!
@TheStickUpKid187 you do not know alot about history so wh dont we just all enjoy this great film and stop talking about a war which had nothing to do with vietnam? thanks!
You're right, you don't know anything about history. The 'krauts' almost took over all of Europe and if it wasn't for the Soviet Union the United States would have had the opportunity to show up at claim all the glory.
@TurnerEckhardt OMG you fucken kraut lover, they LOST, and its been 62 fucken years, its sad you're all ass hurt that the nazis didn't have the "thousand year reich" and didn't get to exterminate enough jews. When you go to hell, please don't be sucking hitlers dick, rather spit on his face for what he did. bitch.
Your reply doesn't make any sense ... I am not defending the Germans. I'm glad they lost. Can you read? At no point did I say I hoped the Germans would have won the war. Very mature response, by the way. They shouldn't allow children to post on Youtube.
@TurnerEckhardt You fucken troll, you said "they would have had the opportunity to show up at claim all the glory." You're the one who keeps telling me that the Germans would have won and I'm telling you that they lost. you so fucken annoying and ignorant to admit that the germans had no chance to win the war. bitch. They shouldn't allow stupid trolls to post on Youtube.
@BESTIACRUEL8 Germany wouldve still lost if they just fought Soviet Union, Germany had 3 million soldiers, Russia had 5 million soldiers. it wouldve took longer but nevertheless or regardless they would still lose the war.
@TheStickUpKid187 if mussaliniahad not invaded greece and and end up getting his arse kicked by the brits hitler would,nt have spent 2 months fighting to kick the british out greece and the russians would haVE had no chance and as the english were bombing the fuck out of german cities at the same time, the brits were useless the russians and yanks were useless it took all off them together and aussie and kiwi 6 years to beat one country the germans were the best fighting army ever respect jerry
@september7891 America was fighting two countries and I believe Germany had help from Italy. America didn't care if the Russians died they were Communists.
@september7891 You mean the Germans, Italians, Japanese, Swedes, Danish, Austrians, Dutch, Vichy French, Hungarians, Czechs, Slovaks, Polish, assorted arabic aid and a few other conscript countries also drafted in. Yeah together they were a potent force. Jerry was tough indeed. It was not composed of one country, merely directed by one in the macro sense.
@luvpump1 Totally agree. This is my fav movie. It shows the hell of being in Vietnam, mired in fighting conventional war against guerilla tactics. Guerilla war does this to people when you suspect everyone and it causes people to act in the way they do on here. Anyone who has been in war can tell you, it de humanizes you to a certain extent.
americans believe in what to believe in, just as long as they dont actually have to die for and keep their american way of life witch is getting fat and and being lazy dumb fucks, when they where drafted to the war in vietnam and actrually had to fight then they suddenly started to use their braisn and say the truth ans not wanting to go saying things like wall street is making money with the war or its a dirty war and things like that, americans dont give a shit as the planet rotts
what kind of country starts a war with another that just won his independence and is still struggling to organize things its like hitting a person when they are down to take their money, it was never about communism just like it isnt about terrorism now, its was about money and stealing poor countrys wealth and it is abiout oil now, and vietnam had oil the usa knew it, and they provoked vietnam or do ppl believe vietnam provoked the usa to war? witch country would ever do that~?
usa starts shit is poor countrysx to go and steal their oil/(there was oil and still is in vietnam) they thought it would be easy go there and abuse those countrys using their media to brainwash ppl making them as the victims when they provoke the wars, and then they manage to fuck things up and still loose the war after killing millions like in vietnam and leaving agent orange and other deadly poisons they destroyed a tropical paradise an ecoligicaL DISAster from witch usa never answered for
Vietnam war soldiers were the toughest men America has ever had. WWII vets were tough but vietnam war soldiers were tygers, just look at Frank Castle.
@WaWFrEaK123 That's very opinionated but an ignorant self belief. Hamburger Hill would have never existed if Platoon hadn't come out. To think of it, neither would have any of the other Vietnam War films of the 80s. FMj is greta but that's because it has its own story, its own genre. Hamburger Hill was a ripoff of Platoon from the start. The Southern Staff Sgt. and his speeches, everything. The Doc was a cool character but the rest in that film, even the blacks, were just a bunch of rednecks.
@bradmata go fk yourself, without america whatever pathetic country you live in wouldn't be shit. the only people complaining are the ones too stupid to realize the truth like you, and you're just jealous.
@spartan120nathan You are right, we are all so jealous of your brainwashed idiocy, without America we would be in so much shit, I mean being Irish and having had America save us from a martian communist invasion...
This movie is one of my favorite movies of all time although very heavy, for obvious reasons. My dad is a Vietnam war veteran but got lucky and served 18 months MI at the Pentagon. Although it is true that a declaration of war was never declared by congress and that there are/were many good arguments for the US not to go to Viet nam, my hats are off to the men and women who served there and this movie is IMO the greatest movie about the Viet nam war. Actors, screenplay and direction.
The character played by Daffoe has the patch from the 25th Infantry Division, the Lighting Thunder based out of Schoffield Baracks, Hawaii, it's the taro leaf (Hawaiian plant) with a lighting bolt going through it.
Long story short: that lucky bastard is based out of Hawaii!
Why does Bunny have a shotgun when everyone else has an M 16? It looks like a Remington 12 gauge. Any ideas? Please cite a source a reference to confirm. Thanks1
@donkette87 I'd imagine he had as either secondary or primary weapom. Most platoon-sized units will have several soldier specializing in certain areas of combat. He could of also bought or found it. My uncles were in 'Nam and said that it was common for soldiers to have a weapon they acquired elsewhere.
I'm not sure within the movie context, but i do know that shotguns in vietnam were scarce yet highly effective weapons especially during nightime close combat and clearing underground bunkers and tunnels. The M16 was the standard issue weapon, therefore in much greater supply. A single platoon could consider themselves lucky to have even one shotgun handy, US soldiers would even buy shotguns while on leave in Thailand and Laos due to both their lack of supply and effectiveness.

Transformers2themax 4 months ago
@Transformers2themax of course, you would think the krauts may have won that battle, because you're a nephew of kraut wehrmacht soldier. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but a lot of german soldier gave up, they did NOT put up a good fight against the allies, sure they may have superior artillery but they surrender in many battles. Their devotion to fight for their country was weak, maybe they didn't want to fight for Hitler but wanted to live to go back their families.
TheStickUpKid187 4 months ago
Lol.
Transformers2themax 4 months ago
@Transformers2themax Well, thats how i was raised, and damn proud of it. My great-grandfather was a paratrooper from 101st Airborne Infantry. He killed a lot of krauts, he told me a good hun is a dead hun. so don't get ass hurt if I call a german a kraut. Don't be a nazi cock sucker.

It was the Allies,not America.
Germany against Britain,Usa,Canada,Soviet Union.I think when it comes to soldiering,Germany wins.
American soldiers have ûBER weapons, but fighting?6 weeks training doesn't cut it these days.
Zscheesus 3 months ago
@Zscheesus actually mostly US and Soviet Union did all of the fighting, and NO the kruats wouldve never won because they are weak and surrender too many times, they are also cowards. Fuck germany, USA fuckin owns!!

@TheStickUpKid187 you do not know alot about history so wh dont we just all enjoy this great film and stop talking about a war which had nothing to do with vietnam? thanks!
VincentVonDoom47 3 months ago
@VincentVonDoom47 i do know a lot about history, I know we lost in Vietnam war to those damn gooks. They put up a good fight unlike the krauts.
TheStickUpKid187 3 months ago
@TheStickUpKid187

When you go to hell, please don't be sucking hitlers dick, rather spit on his face for what he did. bitch.

@TheStickUpKid187
Your reply doesn't make any sense ... I am not defending the Germans. I'm glad they lost. Can you read? At no point did I say I hoped the Germans would have won the war. Very mature response, by the way. They shouldn't allow children to post on Youtube.
TurnerEckhardt 3 months ago

@TheStickUpKid187 if mussaliniahad not invaded greece and and end up getting his arse kicked by the brits hitler would,nt have spent 2 months fighting to kick the british out greece and the russians would haVE had no chance and as the english were bombing the fuck out of german cities at the same time, the brits were useless the russians and yanks were useless it took all off them together and aussie and kiwi 6 years to beat one country the germans were the best fighting army ever respect jerry
september7891 2 months ago
@september7891 America was fighting two countries and I believe Germany had help from Italy. America didn't care if the Russians died they were Communists.
yessirmonkey 2 months ago

Anyone who has been in war can tell you, it de humanizes you to a certain extent.

americans believe in what to believe in, just as long as they dont actually have to die for and keep their american way of life witch is getting fat and and being lazy dumb fucks, when they where drafted to the war in vietnam and actrually had to fight then they suddenly started to use their braisn and say the truth ans not wanting to go saying things like wall street is making money with the war or its a dirty war and things like that, americans dont give a shit as the planet rotts

what kind of country starts a war with another that just won his independence and is still struggling to organize things its like hitting a person when they are down to take their money, it was never about communism just like it isnt about terrorism now, its was about money and stealing poor countrys wealth and it is abiout oil now, and vietnam had oil the usa knew it, and they provoked vietnam or do ppl believe vietnam provoked the usa to war? witch country would ever do that~?
badsign1980 1 year ago
usa starts shit is poor countrysx to go and steal their oil/(there was oil and still is in vietnam) they thought it would be easy go there and abuse those countrys using their media to brainwash ppl making them as the victims when they provoke the wars, and then they manage to fuck things up and still loose the war after killing millions like in vietnam and leaving agent orange and other deadly poisons they destroyed a tropical paradise an ecoligicaL DISAster from witch usa never answered for

hamburger hiil is the best vietnam movie
WaWFrEaK123 1 year ago
@WaWFrEaK123 That's very opinionated but an ignorant self belief. Hamburger Hill would have never existed if Platoon hadn't come out. To think of it, neither would have any of the other Vietnam War films of the 80s. FMj is greta but that's because it has its own story, its own genre. Hamburger Hill was a ripoff of Platoon from the start. The Southern Staff Sgt. and his speeches, everything. The Doc was a cool character but the rest in that film, even the blacks, were just a bunch of rednecks.

0:57- 1:10 Francesco Quinn was one of the best parts of this film. How in God's name did he not get a career boost from this?
Actually I heard he had a big fight with Dafoe and that gave him a bad rep in Hollywood. Sucks, because that's Anthony Quinn's son there...

Thanks1
donkette87 1 year ago
@donkette87 I'd imagine he had as either secondary or primary weapom. Most platoon-sized units will have several soldier specializing in certain areas of combat. He could of also bought or found it. My uncles were in 'Nam and said that it was common for soldiers to have a weapon they acquired elsewhere.
Walnut1871 1 year ago
@donkette87 actually bunny was a CQB Close Quarter Combatant most had SMGS but there werent many around in Nam so mostly they had shotguns
zukazamammee 1 year ago
@donkette87
