Maybe some people actually like 6 string banjos, but I suspect most buy them because they already play guitar and they're too lazy to learn new chords. Listen to Bela Fleck play a 5 string and you'll most likely realize how much nicer a 5 string is. A 6 string is just a guitar with a banjo sound, but the styles never sound the same. Chords are much easier on a 5 string banjo than a banjo guitar as well.
why do people insist on calling these banjos? it is a guitar in stringing and playing it merely has a banjo sound board. if you can play a guitar you can play this. It is like saying that a mandolin banjo is a banjo or a ukulele banjo is a banjo. Does this mean that an f hole jazz gutar is a chello?
yea. i would recommend modifying the bridge. you may need to make deeper indents for the strings then adjust the action from there. if you dont, then the strings (especially the heavier ones) will slip out of their places, which can get really aggravating haha
could you play the whole dueling banjo thing on that and still have it sound good? my grnadfathers trying to convince me into a 5 string banjo and i havent ever played a banjo yet but theres a dean there and i dunno what to get
yea it doesnt sound as good but it's still good. also the whole song is played a whole step higher than i played it so it would sound better with a capo on the 2nd fret.
it all depends on if you are willing to learn how to play a 5 string banjo if you dont already know how because its alot different than guitar unlike the 6 string
I want to learn how to play banjo, and i don't know if I'd like the 6 string more than a 5 string i am a guitar player and i just want a secondary instrument. Can i play the 6 string like a 5 string or is it really different
get the 5 string. the only reason you would want to play a 6 string is so you wont have to learn how to play a 5 string , but if u wanna learn, then get the 5 string.
i just bought one after seeing this(woot)and i know what you mean about the bridge, has to be in the right place for the intonation to be correct.a bit off and it does'nt sound right.thanks 5*
lol I see you watch Family Guy. So on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best, 1 being the worst) what would you give it? I'm looking to buy this banjo and I don't wanna buy a piece of crap.
BTW, you forgot the ending to "My Fat Baby". I GOT BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS!!!
i'd give it a 4, the only downside being the bridge, which i could go on and on about how bad it sucks at first, but once you solve all problems with the bridge, your good
your neck tension is probably not adjusted right. there is probably a small arc on your neck turning slightly inward. if you havent already, you need to unscrew the cover on the headstock, then inside youll see a nut and you need to twist it with tools that should come with your banjo until the neck is straight, and in your case the action will be lower once you straighten out the neck
damn! i took it off and discovered i do need a special tool. but i dont have any. i tried fiddling with the bar under the resonator after a bit of research but not luck. owell i'll just take to my mate he'll sort it. cheers for the advice tho, just have to stick to the guitar for now. ha

Is it tuned in Open G? Cause I'm trying to tune mine in Open G but I can't find ANY "how to videos" online and I think I'm doing it wrong.

hey ive got a six stringer too, and the action of the strings is well too high do you know how i can fix this?
