The reason why Rajon Rondo sucks at free throw because he has a big hands like Shaq which is a BIG problem their hands put's too much pressure on the ball that lead to missed free throws.

i think chris paul is the best point guard but i put rondo second. cp3 and rondo are the only guys who play great defense and actually think pass first. (westbrook rose and even sometimes williams look like they are trying to score for themselves first). paul can also give you 20 points which is what puts him ahead of rondo for me

Rondo shouldnt even be in the question. I know everyone says it but if he played in CP3's or D-Will's place on their teams he would not nearly be as widely regarded as he is today. CP3 and D-Will are the best POINT GUARDS. They are the best all-around and have a better ability than anyone else to take over the game. They do everything you want as a floor general (score, pass, defend, make big shots). Rose is best player at pg position not best point guard. Rondo has a lot of holes to fill.
I'm a fan of Rajon Rondo and all but I think in my opinion that Derrick Rose is a better PG than Rajon Rondo. Derrick Rose isn't a ballhog. He was the ONLY NBA player to be in the top 10 in Points(27.1 ppg) and Assists(7.7 apg). Besides, if you were in the same team with one of the best SG's, PF's and SF's in the league. Won't you constantly feed them ball? I am a fan of Rajon Rondo but I think Derrick Rose is an overall better PG than him.

overall knowledgeable analysis but... a lot of it is questionable, big point...everyone in the NBA travels, just let the refs call it. there are a lot of things that rondo does that many other point guards can do too. another point is that his jump shot isn't terrible but it's awkward, its inaccurate, and his form is off cause his elbow sticks out so much. also his big hands make his free throws shaq-like

@mesut823ozil I may have to disagree there. I love Rondo's game BUT he is very inconsistent scoring wise. He is very consistant assist wise but Chirs Paul is as well PLUS CP is an equal defender to Rondo and can score better wheather its jump shots or layups. Not to mention CP3 shoots near 90% from the free throw line.Statistically Chris Paul has a higher scoring average and all the other categories CP and Rondo are damn near identical. Plus Paul is more of an off ball threat because of his shot

I think his jumper might have something to do with his giant hands and arms. Normal shot motions just don't work as well for him. Similar to Shaq's problems at the ft line, but obviously not on the same level.
@bballbreakdown Yeah I commented that too somewhere here. He shoots it like Fisher, right by his ear. Works for Fish but I think the combination of a generally bad form and his huge hands is enough to put Rondo's shot off as much as it does.
Nice breakdown, although I would argue that there is a problem with his jumper. He shoots it like Fisher, right by his ear, it works for Fish but really doesn't for Rondo, it makes him almost shot-put the ball like a lever rather than a more smooth straight up motion. Particularly visible on FTs. He's a great PG though. Isn't aggressive enough for my liking, especially against bigger teams or teams with multiple shot blockers like Miami.
Rajon Rondo is the best "True" Point guard in the NBA. He is one of the premier passers in the league, he plays excellent defense, has great durability, resilience, poise, hustle, etc... And to the people who say D-Rose is a better point guard: get out. D-Rose is a better scoring point guard, but Rondo is easily the better point guard
@tyklug2013 rondo is surrounded by 3 hall of famers and a great coaching staff and only manages to average 3 more assists per game than rose. rondo has done plenty of stupid things (see "insisting on defending lebron james 1 on 1") that would dissuade me from saying he's the best point guard in the league.
@mhrce Those 3 assists make a huge difference. And just because he's surrounded by 3 hall of famers doesn't mean anything. He has to be a great passer to even get the ball to them with NBA defense. And those 3 hall of famers are all on the downside of their careers.
@tyklug2013 kg still has the best jumper amongst all current PFs. Allen is the all team 3pt leader, shooting an unparalleled 44% from the 3 pt line during the 10-11 season. Pierce has a great mid range game and on top of that shoots over 37% from the pt line as well. All 3 were all stars last season. To top it off, the Celtics bench is full of players with a good shot (big baby, jermaine oneal, dwest).
Rondos assists consist of cuts and simple drive and dish passes.
drose is way better you say at 3:18 he had a turnover and hustles at the other end but if he ran back earlier then they wouldnt have a shot attempt at all and rose would hustle and get the block 2

That "stagger move" dribble is a travel. the stagger usually counts as 1 step, if not 2. then the 2 steps after. thats between 3-4 steps. a travel.

Rondo shouldnt even be in the question. I know everyone says it but if he played in CP3's or D-Will's place on their teams he would not nearly be as widely regarded as he is today. CP3 and D-Will are the best POINT GUARDS. They are the best all-around and have a better ability than anyone else to take over the game. They do everything you want as a floor general (score, pass, defend, make big shots). Rose is best player at pg position not best point guard. Rondo has a lot of holes to fill.

I'm a fan of Rajon Rondo and all but I think in my opinion that Derrick Rose is a better PG than Rajon Rondo. Derrick Rose isn't a ballhog. He was the ONLY NBA player to be in the top 10 in Points(27.1 ppg) and Assists(7.7 apg). Besides, if you were in the same team with one of the best SG's, PF's and SF's in the league. Won't you constantly feed them ball? I am a fan of Rajon Rondo but I think Derrick Rose is an overall better PG than him.

overall knowledgeable analysis but... a lot of it is questionable, big point...everyone in the NBA travels, just let the refs call it. there are a lot of things that rondo does that many other point guards can do too. another point is that his jump shot isn't terrible but it's awkward, its inaccurate, and his form is off cause his elbow sticks out so much. also his big hands make his free throws shaq-like

@mesut823ozil I may have to disagree there. I love Rondo's game BUT he is very inconsistent scoring wise. He is very consistant assist wise but Chirs Paul is as well PLUS CP is an equal defender to Rondo and can score better wheather its jump shots or layups. Not to mention CP3 shoots near 90% from the free throw line.Statistically Chris Paul has a higher scoring average and all the other categories CP and Rondo are damn near identical. Plus Paul is more of an off ball threat because of his shot

I think his jumper might have something to do with his giant hands and arms. Normal shot motions just don't work as well for him. Similar to Shaq's problems at the ft line, but obviously not on the same level.

@bballbreakdown Yeah I commented that too somewhere here. He shoots it like Fisher, right by his ear. Works for Fish but I think the combination of a generally bad form and his huge hands is enough to put Rondo's shot off as much as it does.

Nice breakdown, although I would argue that there is a problem with his jumper. He shoots it like Fisher, right by his ear, it works for Fish but really doesn't for Rondo, it makes him almost shot-put the ball like a lever rather than a more smooth straight up motion. Particularly visible on FTs. He's a great PG though. Isn't aggressive enough for my liking, especially against bigger teams or teams with multiple shot blockers like Miami.

Rajon Rondo is the best "True" Point guard in the NBA. He is one of the premier passers in the league, he plays excellent defense, has great durability, resilience, poise, hustle, etc... And to the people who say D-Rose is a better point guard: get out. D-Rose is a better scoring point guard, but Rondo is easily the better point guard

@tyklug2013 rondo is surrounded by 3 hall of famers and a great coaching staff and only manages to average 3 more assists per game than rose. rondo has done plenty of stupid things (see "insisting on defending lebron james 1 on 1") that would dissuade me from saying he's the best point guard in the league.

@mhrce Those 3 assists make a huge difference. And just because he's surrounded by 3 hall of famers doesn't mean anything. He has to be a great passer to even get the ball to them with NBA defense. And those 3 hall of famers are all on the downside of their careers.

@tyklug2013 kg still has the best jumper amongst all current PFs. Allen is the all team 3pt leader, shooting an unparalleled 44% from the 3 pt line during the 10-11 season. Pierce has a great mid range game and on top of that shoots over 37% from the pt line as well. All 3 were all stars last season. To top it off, the Celtics bench is full of players with a good shot (big baby, jermaine oneal, dwest).
Rondos assists consist of cuts and simple drive and dish passes.
