Failure is normal, and Adam is a tremendously awesome person for owing up to them. Though I don't think that the Theatre job was largely his fault. Working for days without sleep, he doesn't ask for help.. so noone helps? he didnt make the meeting so noone will? it was a favor not a job, he was not getting paid. So they don't take responsibility for anything, blame it on the art director who had to do EVERYTHING with no budget and no experience. The woman sounds like a horrible person.

Failure has an astonishing amount of power. When you fail or make a mistake, it's not that you necessarily learn more but you learn it hard. By failing, you get at least a bit of a sting. The harder it stings you, the more you remember that mistake.
There are some mistakes I make that I keep making and they are the painless ones. I forget them and repeat them. But when a mistake hurts, you bet your ass I won't do it again.
The idea that you learn from your mistakes is not the fear of the outcome...it has everything to do with seeing the situation from all angles. Essentially it's like adding to your inner encyclopedia of knowledge that gives you a broader understanding
It's comforting to hear someone famous whom I positively revere own up to their own all too human failings, and be able to chalk it up to lessons learned...
walker percy once wrote, that the word boredom may find its origine in the french word bourrer, what means to stuff, so the bored personality is the one that is stuffed with itself and i think that is what i am getting here, the rest is opera kitsch, bad opera kitsch, to be stuffed with that, and get something out of it, you have to believe...in opera kitsch. apart from that this speech gives boredom a real bad reputation that it does not deserve!
I was wondering through most of his monologue what the point of it all was, then he finally tied it all together and made his point fantastically: as the title explains. Thanks for sharing. 5 stars.

He is very vague about it- he didn't do several things that he was supposed to do. But it REALLY REALLY doesn't matter. Pay attention to the lesson.

What you're explaining is fear.
The idea that you learn from your mistakes is not the fear of the outcome...it has everything to do with seeing the situation from all angles. Essentially it's like adding to your inner encyclopedia of knowledge that gives you a broader understanding
