that booth kicks ass man! I've been thinking of a way to spray and exhaust the stuff since I have to spray in my house. I could probably do a similar booth, but downsized to fit in the doorway to the back yard.... I'm gonna make a bracelet that says "WWSD" What Would Sully Do? because this ain't the first time one of your videos has clarified something I had been thinking of. woo woo!
@szlash280z It's pretty primitive, but for now solves the main issue that I was having. There is a guy that has an AWESOME paint booth that he uses inside his apartment; I believe he's got it in a closet and has bathroom exhaust fans on the top that have an exhaust path outside. I'll try to find it and send you a link.
@jsullysix wow, I got the link, thanks! that guys paint booth is extreme! I built mine today, it's fairly simple and lightweight. Also collapsible. I forgot to get the fans at the store though, so it's not complete yet. :-0 Are you satisfied with the performance of the fans/filter setup you have? I designed mine to go in the open doorway to the back yard and exhaust outside. I'll make a video of it and link it.
Man you KILL me !! Very informative and also fun as hell to watch. This 51 YO Flat top wearin tattoo of Mother and the American flag bearin 2 heart attack 2 stent mf'er is gonna sit all Labor Day and watch your Videos. I am from the Motor City, the Big D....where things used to be good !! Wasn't Steve Dahl in Detroit Radio back in the 70's ?? Anyways, GREAT vids and Keep rockin !!
@pauljsales thanks man, but there are WAY better things to do with a day off than watch me yammer on about guitar crap! :) I appreciate the enthusiasm, for sure, though! Yep, Stever was in Detroit before he came to Chicago. Check him out now at Dahl.com
Foist of all, I REALLY enjoy yer vids. Yer infomative, lax, humourous.
Butt, the booth is all wrong! As a professional painter in the autobody field for decades, there is NO reason to filter the cheap fans to EXHAUST the fumes. AIR _ INTAKE_ must be filtered to keep the product clean. What I do with my booths remains, was to concoct a system that directs the output into a waterfilled garbage bad thet collects the crap on top of the water!
@panhead1219 the purpose of the booth was to minimize the mess and keep the rest of the garage able to be used. I used to hang plastic tarps from the ceiling and it quickly looked like one of Dexter's kill rooms. :) I understand what you're saying about the intake vs exhaust topic, but until I can do something better (like get someone else to paint these things), I'm doing what I can do. I've done a few guitars in there so far, and it's worked better than I'd hoped, and things are staying clean.
maaan i like your videos you got my subscription ... and likes and all the youtube buttons well almost ... but Corona sucks taste like piss ... drink something that really taste like a beer ...i dont know what kind of beer you have in usa but in romania we love dark beer ... i mean i love it haha anyway cheers nice videos
Nice looking booth, but...are you not afraid of those unshielded fans igniting your material if you are spraying nitro lacquer? This concerns me because I like your vids and they just would not be the same if you had no hair or eyebrows.
Ok, so anyway....next video idea: "Sully's Guitar Garage Presents - What Would You Do?"
Viewer Question (psst...it's me!) "Hi Sully!, My bandsaw sucks ass! I want to make a scarf joint so I can get my 13 degree neck angle, but I can't use a band saw because it's broken, or a table saw, since I don't own one. How do I make a scarf joint sexy enough with just hand tools? What would you do?"
P.S.-If you answer with "buy a table saw" or something like that, I'll find you, and then it will be ON! >:(
@pixelboxcreative I've done a few "Sully answers your questions" videos, which can be fun. For that particular situation, I guess I'd clamp it in a vice and use a hand saw, but leave plenty of room to clean up the cut with a plane. And then I'd get my bandsaw working better! :) Good times! ::drink!::
film edited at 5:00? I like to think when you turned the booth around again some hot blonde chick in black leather pants had magically appeared from nowhere... am I right?
great paint booth sully but I gots me a super stupid question .Are the fans blowing out to suck spray off out or are the blowing in for drying purposes.
OMG! If you say "good times" ONE MORE TIME, I'm gonna....
I'm gonna...
...
I guess I'm gonna hear you say "good times" again. :(
Paint booth is cool, though! I was thinking of making a fully enclosed, collapsible unit using mostly PVC along with castors, and pins (so it can be collapsed). Your thoughts? I don't have a lot of storage space, so I was thinking I could break it out during paint, and store it when not painting.
@pixelboxcreative Yeah, I think that's the result of not using a script (or really giving much thought into what I'm about to start yammering on about). I know you're kidding, but it's gotta be irritating sometimes! :) As far as a fully enclosed area, it's probably not a bad idea. Believe me, I'd like to use something that's easy to tear down, but I did what I did. It'll most likely evolve over time....so yeah. Good times.....?
@pixelboxcreative You're far too kind. I've said it to others, but it bears repeating; I'm kinda like the David Lee Roth of guitar building: I may not be the most "talented", but I'll bust my ass to build a kickass guitar and try to entertain a little in the process. So yeah, good times! (EVERYONE DRINK!)
is it just me or is the spray booth pretty much the same spec for a sex crate?..fans ..hooks...soundproofing...oh..I think I just gave away too much..
Nice work sully. Next project should be a workshop beer holder! Ive often considered building something like that but I seem to get away with using a wire coat hanger and my washing line to hang guitars on while spraying from aerosol cans! Is having 2 box fans a bit overkill? Those things have an awful lot of throughput of air (i had one until it burned out). I guess it depends on what your spraying rig is like. obviously its not 2 part (cyanide based) paint... is it?.
@Digideus the fans aren't as powerful as they may appear, but I'll of course do a few practice runs with it. As far as what I'm using to spray, I'm considering moving to water based finishes; I've heard of people having some great success with the Target Coatings waterbased products, so I'll be checking into that soon.
next a shirt with good times on it , I bet some of us would buy it , going to paint my first guitar soon... probably out in the woods, I'm so environmentally friendly..
@jsullysix give it some time , everything sells eventually in experience as I've sold everything from pickups to project guitars I repaired... so just wait until your following grows people will buy them.
the sully hotline 20$ a half hour to talk to you on the phone to get advice on guitars maybe.
hi,
I want to know how to repair a chipped electric guitar, cuz I did'nt found a good video on it. thanks!

I am so VERY looking foward to using yer "grain filler info/stuff" when I can get the time.
It seems like the perfect product.
THANKS!
Oh, and I'm STILL gonna use the Samual Smith to "stain" the maple to mark the fret board! :)
