I love not only that he loves his daughter so much but also that he's so verbal with it. It matters if a dad loves his little gir but lwhat matters just as much, if not more is if he tells her constantly. I don't even know what to say other than more dads should have this mentality. He doesn't treat women like weak saps. Yes a daughter needs to learn self confidence but she gets that by being told shes beautiful and wonderfully made by God and THAT'S what makes her gorgeous.
@jlgtuesday1971 Godly confidence comes from confidence in Jesus.
Self confidence is pride.
It is also our duty as males to use our lives as a role of leadership to symbolize the relationship of Christ leading the Church. Don't believe me? Ask Paul (Ephesians 5:22-24 and 1 Timothy 2:13-14).
not very sure what's the point of this sermon.... it is nice to share his family story, but what is the exact Biblical message from this??? Little bit too self-absorbed, I would say...
@canzo0378 I WISH my dad was SO supportive. Girls adore their dads & my confidence was SHATTERED when my father disappeared, I became wild & 'tough' to cover it up, as "everybody 'loves' a wild girl", when I was in fact self-destructively disturbed.
Mark makes it clear that human girls MUST be respected & loved like humans, it cannot be stressed enough how seriously important fathers are to the self-worth of a female
Do not dismiss this sermon - its a microcosm of this world - a crucial example
lousyacrobat, his reference about men not being criers doesn't mean "men should never cry" He's meaning men need to not be whiny and femme like so many are nowadays.
I fail to see how brainwashing your kid is a good thing. I'm waiting until my little girl is old enough to understand decption. Then she can make a choice with a free mind.
this gentleman seems very nice and honest but im not sure why people need jesus and religion to figure out all this stuff. the true answers to the universe are far more amazing and spectacular that what we humans have created. but hey if this helps people live better then so be it.
@whiteguypl im with you man but these things take time. in a hundred years people will be looking back at us and wondering how we had religion. the problem comes when religious people spend all their time on gay marriage instead of real problems like poverty. even this guy at the end says fathers have to be "masculine and strong." now im as straight as an arrow but im not sure why he needs to say that. im sure a lot of the other sentiments are shared by all fathers, even heathens like me.
@lousyacrobat He's talking about real masculinity and real strength, not about being a macho tough guy.
A father needs to show his sons and daughters how a real man acts, with honesty, integrity and wisdom, so their boys can know what they should grow up to be, and their daughters can know what kind of man they should develop a relationship with.
@lidgerwood why does it have to be about what kind of man she should be with and not what kind of woman she should grow up to be? and he keeps saying the daughter is a gift to whoever she marries and to him. is that all she is? A gift for others to "enjoy"? Also he says hes against men who cry. what the heck is that about? he is a nice fellow im sure, but these ideas are not exactly what i would consider feminist.
@lousyacrobat This stuff is Foolishness to the World.........There eyes can't see. We Could argue all year if you wan't, but it comes down to the End. In the end, you believed something. You Believe your own truth and own Understanding, or you believe Jesus, and What He reveilles to us in his Word. What Driscoll is explaining how God designed a Health Family to be......a family living on Biblical truths. We, as fathers are responsible for the Children God entrusted to us.
@Jerkwad152 so i cannot raise a family without believing in your god? is that what you are trying to say? do you know how many religions during the time of christ were basically telling the same tale - virgin birth, sacrifice etc? I think the lessons from the story are good for children or for people a thousand years ago. But today we have science and common sense. I know how to raise a family bc I am an ethical person.
For those of you complaining there isn't much "how to love" advice here, uh hello! Read between the lines people, it is front to back giving advice!
Read to them, listen to them, pray with them, encourage them, "daddy date" them, snuggle with them, do thing with them they enjoy, have adventures with them, teach them, discuss the future with them, tell them you love them, spend bed time with them, hold their hand, be interested in their likes & passions......open your ears!
Loved this video. While it didn't really contain any 'daughter loving' tips, it shows a good example of what a Godly poppa daughter relationship is like. My daughter is 5 months old and I can't wait till I can snuggle and joke with her... and teach her theology.
this was all about his personal story, i mean it was nice and sweet, but there was so little advice and scripture it frusterates me, because my dad is shit never talks to me haven't seen him in months - he tells me "im not your father, God's your father"
There are too few resources in society that structure us to be effective and intentional parents. Thank you for this resource. I am not a parent who is just watching my children grow up. I am intentional about how often I will demonstrate my love, how I will hold the line on discipline and all the things I will share with them so that I can lovingly pass along wisdom and character. I love my kids and thank you for demonstrating how much you love yours.
I've been away from my daughter for over a year and a half. She's five now, and I'm about to reunite with her in just a few short weeks. I've been stationed over seas, and the hardest part has been the separation between me and my family. After this video I found myself in tears praying that the Lord would allow me to be the man, husband, and father I am called in Christ Jesus to be.

It certainly helps.
One might as well build a car without a frame as raise a family without Christ.
