  • Nice version !

  • There no words I can use to describe what I feel when I hear it, I wish they let the song finish. My heart gets pounded by this piece of art. I love Joe for letting me hear what He feels through his songs. I can't thank him enough for this, my life definitely changed because of his music.

  • Guys do you know who matches Satriani? Gustavo Guerra ! Those two guys are the best in the world

  • @Raazeerr wrong

  • any way to find a complete video of if i could fly live?!?!

  • 1. satch & slash are both masters

    2. did coldplay copy satch? who knows but only a fool would dismiss the similarity

    3. this performance is incredible

  • Part 4: Even if we try really really hard, we will never be 100% objective when judging a new thing, e.g. piece of art work, what songs are, we face. And it's ok like that. We cannot be able to get over our subjectiveness, but we can stay open-minded. And stop making a big thing out of five notes sounding similarly. ;) Thank you.

  • So the fact a couple of notes in one part of the theme sound similar you call "copying"? :/ Look at the whole musical inheritance of the mankind through all the ages. Almost everything that could have been invented in music has been made up and done. That's why most today's artists look for inspirations in previous decades, sometimes even unwillingly, because as a musician, even when you think you've made sth up totally by yourself in fact you are... To be continued.

  • @regerabit

Part 2: ...in fact you are being influenced by all the sounds you know, even if it's subconcious or you just have heard something only once and think you've forgotten it. It can even happen you don't really know anything similar to what you've made up but in reality there is with a 99,99% garanty at least one song already existing somewhere in the world that is in a way similar to yours and there is at least one person living somewhere to whom your song sounds like another one.

  • @regerabit

Part 3: I know it even from my own expierience. To me many new songs coming out sound like tracks I already know. For instance, many songs by GaGa sound for me like plagiarisms of old hits, even though I know maybe it wasn't (or at least in most cases wasn't) her intention to copy old stars. But it's okay. We always are being influenced by all our expieriences up to now, also in music, and we will always be. We can't just get over it, cause it's natural.

  • this is out of tune.. maybe to avoid copyright issues =/

  • Fuck Coldplay. Just heard their song "Viva la vida" for the first time today and that fuckin sounds like this song, but Coldplay just aint no comparison to Satriani! This guy is a bloody genius, Id be so happy if I was half as good as him...

  • You guys are completely insane, there is absolutely no comparison between Satriani and Slash. Slash is very good, but there is a difference between good and being a genius. Slash would never be able to create something like this, never. He isn't knowledgeable enough in music to know how manipulate the chords like Satriani does, He is not technical enough for this. Slash is in a category below Satch with the other greats.

  • @Eddu13 you heard November rain solo? say no moreee

  • @duds402 lane?

  • @gunfart lane???

  • @duds402 ye shawn lane. he kills all guitarists

  • Comment removed

  • @Eddu13 Slash is to Joe what a Demi-God is to a god. They're both talented but Joe just takes it to a whole nother level....(had to stop myself from saying whole nubba lebel...curse you madtv)

  • @Eddu13 True Slash is not on the same level as Satriani. You can make an argument that someone like Yngwie Malmsteen can outshine Satriani though. Yngwie is a guitar God!!

  • @SugarRayDi Yngwie is alright, very boring, everything sounds the same, his music is natural, sounds like some heavy metal/rock with stolen soul from Paganini among others. He is one way traffic, unlike Satriani that can go with so many different styles and moods. Satch's music have a story within each song, some crazy stuff that only a few can relate to it. I think Yngwie is in the category of hard workers and human songs, while Satch is in different galaxy, just listen to him.

  • @Eddu13 I agree with you man, Satch isn't from Earth, and his musics take you into space!!!

  • @Eddu13 more like the category of overrated sell out. Cartoon network? wtf is that

  • Go Joe!

  • why is there no live video of this song ANYWhere!??? :P don't understand don't understand

  • viva la vida!!! jajajaj

  • @MoFoPower deffenitely! this isnt my favorite song for nothing:)

  • studio version dickhead you need to go to specksavers. what a nob.

  • Comment removed

  • we have 24 dislikers...here in brazil 24 is sort of a gay number, it's hard to explain...but definetively a gay number.

  • @FCValle it must be all justin bieber's gay fans

  • is there another God on Guitar then Joe ? Satch id God !! sory for my English -i´m German :)

  • This is way better than the studio version as are most of Satriani's live performance's. You aren't missing out on much...

  • I WISH I COULD FLY? REALLY, BRO?

    Unprofessional pricks....

  • music industry too, so it's not entirely likely they stole from the guitar god known as Satriani :D

  • There's some parts similar to Coldplay's Viva La Vida, but I never believed they stole it from Joe. Plus, music builds off if other music anyway.

I wrote a song once that just happened to sound like Walking On a Line by Pony Pony Run Run, and I had never even heard the song till about 4 months later XD

But I still love Satriani. He's amazing!! Basically every song he's written has had great guitar riffs and chords.

But Coldplay too, I love them :) they've been mastering the music industry to

  • @Firstriver333 they stole it.period. they had to pay satriani.

  • slash i god , satch just an angel :p

I lov satch he's truly a fucking guitar player ! soo skilly :D but i prefer slash :p

  • @kipokipo fail, slash can´t even improvise..

  • @Fl4k , actually Slash is a great improviser , maybe one of the best in metal . Slash can rip it up , anyone who thinks not doesn't know much about music , or guitar playing .

  • @FazeDrifter i didnt say his music is bad, guns n roses is good music but slash cant reach satriani or petrucci in any way, technically or in improvisation and i know much about music cuz im a musician :)

  • @Fl4k , well I am a musician too , for 41 years now . Slash has plenty of technique , he's just a completely different style than Joe , who I think is superb too . When Micheal Jackson wanted a lead guitarist for his tour , he didn't ask for Satchmo , he specifically asked for Slash . There's a lot more to playing expressive artful guitar than just technique alone . Take a look at the Jeff Beck / Drown in my Tears vid on here somewhere when you get a chance and see what I mean.

  • @FazeDrifter That's the thing isn't it? Technique is only relevant to a certain extent: It should enable you to play what you hear in your head as a musician. It's not a measure on which to measure musicians. I do think to the trained ear Satch is a better musician though, he's just more subtle, more versatile. Slash is a bit one-dimensional, but then again he doesn't need to be more than that for his music.

  • @kipokipo You're an idiot.

  • awsome, Satriani is the really master guitar , he is a trully artist, made alot out ofte nothing, Joe, Joe, good tune man!

  • yeah this dude is definitly from another planet to play like that

  • @lightstevOo there actually in the same key. F minor.

  • si no te gusta esto te podes ir a la mierda,,Q GROSO Q ES ESTE TI PO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • anybody knows where is the studio version????

  • This is a plagioi, watch this video recorded in 2002 watch?v=G57CgtX-BsI

  • tbh in general I do agree that a lot of the time when songs sound similar it is usually a coincidence and I hate it when people go around saying this has copied this constantly because it is stupid, however, in this case the two songs just seem a little too similar for it to be mere coincidence. I love Satriani's Work and in my opinion he is one of the best Guitarists out there!

  • Comment removed

  • Guys, imagine that. The number of songs made are waaaaay less than the notes, or notes combinations, whaaatever. I think it's stupid to say that Coldplay's Viva la Vida is made after this song.

  • @mihailburuiana you idiot, the chord progressions are the same and the chorus part are definately the same tune just in a different key

  • @mihailburuiana it's definitley copyright infringement. No it's not stupid when ppl use other ppl's songs without permission.

  • Chorus 0:48- 1:20 and 1:57- 2:04!!!!!!!!!!

  • this dude talking crap "i take it as an offense when people doubt my understanding of the arts¨" classical words of a pretencious nerd whore, how can coldplay made it better musically talking?? viva la vida clearly has less armonies, less notes, easier so way easier to write that down on paper, technically talking i would love to see coldplay dudes trying to play this song or any of satrianis work, doubt they will have the balls

  • At least Coldplay made it better xD

  • @ReiJPR I'm sorry, but in arts, we do not say "better" or "worse". It is either you LIKE it, or you don't. Thank you.

  • @Darkhaner It's so funny that you're saying that, regardless of it being my opinion. You probably think you're the owner of all reason, but I must say: you're just another opinionated douche. I clearly stated MY opinion, and not anyone else's... plus, you still have a lot to learn to talk to me about arts ;)

  • @ReiJPR It was my mistake to assume that it was not an opinion-comment. And I apologize for it. You prefer Coldplay and I respect that. However, claiming that I think myself to be owner of all reason and an opinionated douche would be to insult me, something I did not do to you. Clearly, this was all a misunderstanding that I am sorry for. I propose we settle this in peace. What do you say ?

  • @Darkhaner I accept your premise. I'm sorry, too, but I always take it as an offense when people doubt my understanding of the arts, specially music, something I've been used to ever since I was a child. Again, I'm sorry I overreacted.

  • CUDPLAY NO SABE HACEROTRA COSA MAS QUE COPIARSE DE SATRIANI!!!

  • cudplay es mirda copiona!!!

  • que buen tema lastima que coldply se lo aya plagiado!!!

  • Hope Coldplay shared the songwriting creds for this.

  • ......thank you Joe.... :-)

  • I love this song...it makes me so happy :-)

  • @kimvilladsen80 i know!! -.-

  • 00:48 It's viva la vida!

  • @shortypsp actually, viva la vida is "if i could fly"

  • @MiyaZakiProductions I just said that <.<

  • @shortypsp

We're all sure this song came out before Viva La Vida.

  • Comment removed

  • riddick looks like satriani

  • don't fuck Coldplay, they copy this means they have great taste.

  • @freezaxp Wow, another Coldplay fan. Having great taste doesn't make you a great musician if all you do is plagiarise other people stuff whilst not recognizing it's not an original creation of yours, so STFU.

  • @metvincent well done on failing to get my sarcasm. i'm a Satriani lunatic, so what do you think?

  • @metvincent I think this is another song than viva la vida. Some notes are nearly identical, but in this summary it sounds otherwise. Chris Martin and Joe Satriani have solved the problem, so I think your discussions are unnecessary :)

  • @Hanczess12 Hey, I'm with you on the unnecessary discussions =) I just stated facts.

  • buenisimoooo!!!!!

  • Where you hear a similarity to Viva la Vida. And Coldplay didn't suchs!!!!

Please compare the success of Coldplay to Joe Satriani, Satriani is nothing against COLDPLAY.

  • @HustlerMuri 0.50

  • @HustlerMuri Yeah both songs are similars but...

Coldpaly is nothing compared to Joe Satriani:

is an Italian American instrumental rock guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, with multiple Grammy Award nominations. Early in his career, Satriani worked as a guitar instructor, and some of his former students have achieved fame with their guitar skills (Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Kirk Hammett, Andy Timmons, Charlie Hunter, Kevin Cadogan, Alex Skolnick). (15 Nomitations to Grammy Awards.)

  • @loquendoWTF09 kirk hammet...hahahahahahahaha

  • i swear i jerk off to this XD hahaha no but seriusly fuckin wonderfull

  • some boy bands would really copy this HEAVENLY song!!

  • i LOVE the riff (0:49-0:55) !!!!!!!

  • Be able to hear this song everyday already makes my life worthy!

  • Wow look there are 19 ass holes that watched this video

  • Oh if I only could masturbate a guitar like this man can!

  • really cool

  • yeah i love this song

  • I love the deejays' enthusiasm!!! Wow! Gorgeous, gorgeous song by Joe Satriani. After years of listening to Joe, Steve Vai, ERic Johnson, Ernie Isley, Duane Allman, Stevie Ray, and all the other fine, fine guitarists, past and present, I just count myself lucky to have ears to hear! Thanks for the post.

  • smplemente el mejor

  • Man those harmonics kill me.

  • One of his best, I just love this. Nice to hear it "live" with some improv.

  • he is one of the best guitar players ive ever heard

    and coldplay suchs

  • he is one of the best guitar players ive ever heard

  • it's an unholy sin that this video has this kind of views.... :O

  • What tuning is this? Sounds different from the album version

  • Satriani y Coldplay le Copiaron a LOS ENANITOS VERDEEES!

  • were*

  • theres nothing strange!... i only hear a super solo by a god

  • is this really done by joe? this version is even better...!

  • fuck i want to hear this song but the whole fucking youtube just shows COLDPLAY VIVA LA VIDA

    fuck youtube

  • I see NO similarity whatsoever between this and Coldplay's Viva La Vida. If I looked I could EASILY find other songs MUCH more similar than this. In fact, call it a defensive falacy, but this could be the slight alteration of a GREAT number of songs...

  • Comment removed

  • @IbanezjemJSX Ok, so you're saying that I have a birth mental disability because I can't perceive the claimed similarity of two songs? My opinion and hearing make me/show that I have a mental disability? Is that a real thing you said or you just where fiddling with your keyboard and those exact keys came out? Also, you must not come across many people [and ask them that]. It is my opinion, chill. Does saying that makes you a bigger man? No.

I see no similarity. Differ? Congratulations. But relax

  • @IlMarto

fair play, i'm too used to seeing coldplay fans coming on here and hating satch for it saying he's just in it for money and all this...

i just wish everyone would stop going on about it, because even satch has given up on it now lol

cant really remember what i said fully but i know i was in a bad mood that day, and found people still going on about it which pissed me off... if you don't see the similarity then fair enough

    sorry

  • what scales does this song use??

  • wawwawaa....

  • The noice from 0:48 - 1:20 is just beautiful, makes me smile and feel heppy whenever i hear it

  • WHY JOE NEVER PLAY THIS SONG AT THE CONCERTS???

  • @MetalGuitarist96 I KNOW!!! I really wish he'd play it live.

  • Lamentablemente cuando hablan al final lo joden todo...!!!

  • Joe Rulez!!!

  • Absilutely amazing. Got to see him play in a small venue a couple weeks ago. what a character.

  • @quakendoosh I met him and spent about an hour with him Hes SOOO short Lol

  • @FlipGordon What you tryin' to say about us short people? -_-

  • @metachozoite Im short too Lol

  • i understand coldplay. who wouldn't want to write a song like that? \m/

  • haha I wish I could fly

  • For me, this song is simply the best song ever without a doubt. Everything is perfect. The tone, the phrasing, the guitar playing, the melodies... everything in this song could be a golden standard for guitar playing.

  • ok I absolutely love Coldplay, but this one's a no-brainer

you could argue the songs are similar, but there's plenty of examples of when I've listened to a song and my first reaction was "oh I like this one" but then it's actually a different song. They didn't copy. The songs aren't even that similar. The melody on this one is miles off Viva La Vida's.

  • @cougher989 haha. Your gay

  • nice satch...............

  • i have to say, i love this version more than the original

  • Aah. Listening to this song reminds me of an article I read about this song and Viva La Vida. :)

The article said something like: Coldplay claimed that the original song by Satriani lacked originality and does not deserve to be copyright protected. Does that mean that, they too, lack originality? xD

    Love Satriani! <3

We will never know if Coldplay made that song themselfs or stealed the concept from this song, but I know I won't listen to Viva La Vida anymore. :)

  • Lol, who played this?

  • Coldplays singer is so gay anyway Satriani has guitar doing the singin for him

  • Satriani = Genius ... It's an excellent player , you can feel the emotion when he plays it's .. beautiful (:

  • 00:49-1:19 One of my favourite guitar melodies. On par with the one in cliffs of dover.

  • fuck Cold Play, Satriani is the best guitar player ever...

  • VIVA LA VIDA FRAWWWWWDDDDD

  • joe is why i pick up the guitar every day.....

  • Satch - 1

    Coldplay - 0

  • Man i love those harmonics, love this version.

  • This has got to be one of the best guitar instrumentals of all time. Joe is absolutely in the zone from 1st note to last.

  • one of the bests guitarr players in the fucking world!!!

just listen how does that guitarr sounds like!!!

    it's amazing!!!

    orgasmic!!!

    luv it!!!

  • 2:14 G3 in Denver, 2003?

  • justin beiber.

  • One of the few artist wich can play live even better than in studios! Other artist are Paul McCartney, the Stones, bob dylan, etc..

    5/5!!

  • @JesseReith1 don't forget jimmy page!! Led Zeppelin as a band as a matter of fact...

  • @millburg1008 That's why I said 'etc...' Their are great too! (ofcourse ;-)

  • @JesseReith1 LOL! Putting Joe Satriani alongside McCartney, Stones and Bob Dylan musically! Yeah and my shit is worth the equivalent of a tonne of gold!

    Bwa ha ha!

  • This is feel good music

  • i don't think Coldplay has even heard of Satriani. not their cup of tea.

  • un buen plagio de joe satriani contra los enanitos verdes de argentina , la rola es identica, no hay ni siquiera que averiguar, es la misma.

  • @MrSoldadouniversal Pero cual cancion de los Enanitos loco?.....para comparar.

  • @Roccoguz frances Limon.

  • This song is a masterpiece of art .

  • i wish joe played this song live more often. honestly, this is one of my 3 favorite songs by him. i can close my eyes and it literally feels like he is pulling me into this dream where i am flying. it is amazing

  • If it wasn't for coldplay I would never have known this song.

  • question.. was a part of the agreament for joe not to play this son live? because i have never seen him play this song in a concert.

  • if colplay did copy Joe, at least they have good taste. no ethics, but good taste.

  • @DOwhoYOUare What do you mean by "if", it's clear they've copied Joe.

  • @rodrigos666

hey man you should listen to heaven by cat stevens, i bet satriani inspired himself on that song to write this one x )
