@PsychoScientist007 technically its not 'burnt', but it is charred. There is no oxygen in the can for it to 'burn'. What is left is carbon, which can be used for a lot of things, many people would call what is left BIOCHAR, which can be used in your garden. A retort, like what you saw in the video with the pop can, is one of the main methods for making Biochar. - Steve
@ryanbrownnew you get MUCH MORE GAS than you use. All you have to do is look at any self charing biochar unit and you can see how its true. I just used a propane stove to make the demonstration quick and eassy.
@drdos4 yeah..sure...it works great with pine needles... you can get a lot of gas from it and good biochar left over. Pine needles gasify by pyrolysis very well as well as in a traditional wood gasifier.
If you do this with bark from a dead Burch tree or pine wood and have a drain on the bottom of the container you get a tar or pitch that can be burnt as a fuel or used for waterproofing or gluing. I never new it was also making hydrogen though. Fascinating stuff!
Pretty cool. So which book do you now recomend? The organic book or the 3 & 4 book? I'm looking more into the boosting aspect. Or do you recomend a dvd? Money is kinda tight. Please let me know.
@gagekko I suggest the Hydrogen Generator Gas for Vehicles and Engines Volume 3&4, its at USH2 (dot) com, click on WHERE TO START, its the 2nd book down on the right. The DVD I suggest is the Hydrogen Car and Multifuel DVD for fueling your vehicle and the DVD The Chemistry and Manufacture of Hydrogen WITH the BOOK (same title) for making hydrogen. I have a series of WEBINARS on the subject at USH2EDU (dot) com, everything is download and watch VIDEO. - Steve
@clackdwack yes, the products can be distilled into a liquid. I have an entire book on the subject called Wood Products Distillates & Extracts, go to USH2 (dot) com, click on BOOKS BY TITLE, its one of the last ones. It covers all of the temperatures and what comes out at what temperature, turpentine, methanol etc.... there is a whole family of organic chemistry that comes off of wood when it its heated up.
This is great stuff. I saw the Gas stove too. A great price for a great stove. It uses a battery powered fan to suck the gas into the stove, which then rises back up through the lining, and finally is burnt right above your sawdust, which makes more gas...
What do u do to the burnt wood inside the can.. could it be used for further benefit..?

$64,000 question.. if you collected the gas from this - would you have created more gas than the amount used to create it?
