you know who brought magic to this? WKW's story and Christopher Doyle's cinematography. I believe if somebody else shot (cinematography) the film, it wouldn't be too poetic as compared to what Doyle did.

"too late, too soon.. will all eventually lead to tragedy"

He cannot love anymore..because he has loved so much in the past..he has given a part of his soul to someone that is not supposed to appear in his life.. yet our hearts choose where they want to be.. regardless of how others feel for us.. he wants to love, but he is trapped in his past, which later proves to be of no consolation to him.. He is a broken man..he must learn how to love himself first again.. sad to say I'm going through a similar stage..

Zi Yi and Tony act a stunning performance in this movie...

The only thing that I can say about Wong Kai Wai is awesome...

He produces movies that are artistic and romantic....different from other directors.

Tony is definitely my hero. He culd never luv a woman agin but that didnt mean he culdn't sleep w/ them. He once knew what luv was like & then he lost it & fell into depression. He was able to get away frm 2046 b/c he knew he culdn't fall in love w/ the androids after his 1st affectionate rejection, & his way of filling the loveless void he felt was to have a heart of stone only pleasuring women physically. Thus he becomes the expert one night stand man

This is a delightful masterpiece.

Who can ever understand love? Our here falls in love with Faye who rejects him, falls in love with Gong Li who can't let herself love, and then rejects Ziyi who has fallen in love with him.

Isn't this how is usually goes folks? And Wong Kar Wai has captured it better than anyone ever has.

Absolutely true. Even the person you love and eventually marry is not the exact IDEAL person you should have loved. But everyone is short of time, and makes compromises, and life goes on. I'm not sure anyone can claim that they have found THE person they should have been in love with.

Even when you come across THAT person, it might have been too late or too early. Such is the quirkiness of life.

Choosing to live in such darkness makes one identify more and more with negative emotions and almost enjoy the hurt that one is causing oneself and others. Always reasoning that he is this way because of another, he is filled with so much bitterness and contempt which he outlets by hurting others. This is the concept behind revenge. We either forgive people or hurt them back. Sometimes we want revenge but that person isn't there and so we hurt others like them or anyone who is near.

I agree with what you say in general of-course. But in this film I wasnt so sure that I could see his bitterness per se, to me he seemed more lacking in the ability to really love or maybe the opposite. That he loved someone so much one time that no-one could come close, & always would.

Yeah I originally wrote two posts but one didn't go through. It was about how if we don't rise above the ashes of the pains of the past and transform ourselves and our lives we will do what I wrote below: hurt others and/or ourselves. Maybe what you said happens but this doesn't mean that one's life has to deteriorate because of so. One can actually turn bad events into good like John Walsh and others have done. Or one can live in the past, in pain, seek revenge, and/or hurt others.

Sure I cant disagree with you but I don't (again) think this chrarcter (Tony's)is purposely harming anyone,he's just not giving people what they want.If its harmful to not give love to someone who loves you then we all have the right be harmful sometimes.Its the danger of falling in love with anyone isnt it? the vulnerability we exose ourselves to.The hope theyll love you back. He never led her on. But youre right he probably needed to move on from his past love & smell the roses.

geez. the reason why he decided to leave the relationship was because he realizes that he has irrevocably been changed by all that has happened to him. he can no longer love another woman the same why he did. he is forever stuck in 2046 and cannot return. this alludes to how powerful memory and our personal history can be in our lives. duh. nuff said.
