Thank you for posting these amazing clips. What a gift. That moment when Apter asks about what it might be like when he's 60 or 70 is kind of heartbreaking.
Frank Goodish, aka "Bruiser Brody" was a man wise beyond his years and certainly a man ahead of his time. I wish I had been old enough to appreciate him when he was still alive. He lives now through video footage, written text and accounts of other wrestlers. Pro Wrestling could use a man like him today.
@passionformyself - I saw a shoot interview with Abdullah the Butcher and he claimed that a wrestling old timer named King Curtis started that. King Curtis Iaukea. I may not have spelled that correctly.
Bruiser Brody was always one of my favorites and many wrestlers were inspired by his character for he was very important to wrestling as a whole. RIP
he's right on at 7:39 when he answering the question..i think thats what has happened today all these guys on top the rock, austin, lesnar, goldberg they all left on top without letting new guys beat them and get the torch ..even hbk..when these guys lost and left...they lost to guys on top...austin lost to the rock..rock to goldberg..goldberg and brock faced each other b4 retiring..even hbk,.hbk lost to taker...they should it passed on the torch n didnt n hurted wrestling.
wow this guys smart this is first time i see him in a interview ..i understand now why they killed him and i feel sorry..u clearly can tell this guy didnt let any1 not even promoters push him around he understood business way promoters understood it
Best shoot interview....had to hold back a tear knowing this valuable wrestler was butchered with hardly anyone helping. Shows you that if you know too much about any business that you're considered a threat. The way he talks sounds like he is a kind person & accessible....RIP Goodish.
From 7:15 onwards, to every wrestling fan that keeps asking "why does -insert big star name- keep losing, he was so good at one time", Bruiser has just answered the question perfectly
It was very difficult to find footage of Brody when I was growing up, even VHS tapes of his matches were scarce, so all we knew was the legendary accounts in the magazines of him, Hansen, Abdullah etc just killing it overseas and elsewhere. This really put a smile on me seeing/hearing "Frank Goodish" speak so openly and out of character. The producing stuff just makes me respect him even more. Icon just don't say enough.
man this makes me so happy yet so sad all at the same time bruiser was one of my favorites growing up. Seeing this make me remeber him but all the remeberance brings up the night in puerto rico. which in turns brings up those bad emotions i had in 88. Im sick and tired of all these forgetabout the wrestling of all these human beings dieing in most cases sad alone and before there time because of there chosen professions.
There was one thing about this "shoot" interview that sets it apart from almost all other "shoot" interviews" - not one single cuss word!
As opposed to hearing Ole talk about how wrestling was better in the old days - which I agree with - but using ECW language at the same time. Go figure.
Man Brody talked about the veterans giving back and about repaying the biz for being good to him. It makes all the stories about him being difficult to work with seem less than genuine because he seemed very candid and genuine when he talked about it. Hearing him say he had ten more years left was weird man. God rest you Bruiser you were a hero of mine.
One thing I really noticed in this interview is how he uses the term "rassling" & not wrestling. He was an amazing worker who knew the business like very few others. It was an absolute crime in more ways than we have tiime to list here how he was murdered & it was covered up.
Wow! I remember when Bruiser Brody was murdered i was about 15 years old. I never understood the behind the scenes stuff back then. But after listening to this interview i think Brody could've ran his own company. He was that smart. And it's probably why he never went to WWF back then. Vince would've tried to turn him into something he wasn't. It's too bad he died at that time as he could've done so much more in the business. To those who covered up his murder...they'll all burn in hell in time.
I was always a big fan of Brody, but this interview was really something. Brody was an extremely intelligent, articulate man. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
I love what he says about older guys on their way out. Chris Jericho is nearing 40 and isn't always a champion, he just fought Yoshi Tatsu of all people....but it was important. A lot of the people working for TNA's problem is that they always, always, always want to be relevant, even when they're old and decrepit or have no reason to be at the top anymore, which causes bickering and infighting. Instead, people should just be happy with what they've contributed and continue to do so.
@TadThuggish Hey just a token tna defense here for a sec. Nash, Angle, Sting, Flair and Jarrett have made more young guys in TNA than alot of wrestlers have ever entertained. Lethal got put over by Flair, Jarret and Angle. Nash has put over half the roster and still made his money. Sting put over Joe, AJ, Abyss, Daniels(I know he's gone). Right now Flair is giving the rub to 6 TNA bred wrestlers in fourtune. He has to stay relevant while putting them over on the mic otherwise it means less
What a horrible loss for the business. He could've taught so much and given so much to the next generations. He's so wonderfully intelligent and articulate.
i think this is more 87-88 cause they talked about falling of territories.. the territories didn't crumble till then really.. he said 15 yrs he debuted in 1973 so 15 would 1988 the year he died
Shit He speaks the truth I must have seen this guy wrestle in my Crappy little town a half dozen times...Shit to bad he didn't give use another 10 good years.
Incredible interview. Very open and honest considering the era. Brody came across as being eloquent and insightful. Great comments about older stars putting over the newcomers and wrestling in small towns. Tragic though when they talk about Brody's "future" when one considers that he didn't have one. I can only imagine what wrestling would have been like had he lived. I would have loved to have seen Brody vs Hogan (rather than Hogan vs Zeus) throughout 1989 in the WWF had they signed him
@crackattack85 Brody by far. Dynamite was great but a bully and wasnt as famous as brody around the world. He was great but not a full time main event like Brody was and pillman never reached the level of either Brody or Dynamite.
That's a fabulous interview. I watched all 3 parts. Mind you this is a little before or just as wrestlers were admitting it is scripted. Brody really gave excellent answers to rather complex questions in this interview. It's terrible what happened to him. Just terrible.
I loved this interview. I only ever saw Brody in character where he's rough and wild. Thank you FLICK510 for posting this.
From the Brody books it said he was in a Redskins training camp, but I don't think he stuck with the team, let alone 3 years. He played professionally for a Mexican football league, tho.
According to Tony Atlas, he was the only one who stayed with Brody and tried to help him after the stabbing, while all the other wrestlers just kept getting dressed as if nothing happened. I think it was all a set up to get Brody out of power. I also heard Brody was unliked by pretty much everyone because he wouldnt do business the right way and wouldnt put anyone over. Still tho, I dont think he deserved to die over it.
It's fascinating that he is so straightforward about some things but still lies about others (I guess it's protecting his character, or kayfabe), like his age, and he didn't play 3 years with the Redskins. But it was a great interview to watch. Both the Bruiser Brody books are worth checking out as well!
Puerto Rican wrestling has never been the same since they let that bitch walk that stabbed and murdered Brody. Can you blame American wrestlers not wanting to go over there and wrestle after Brody is killed in front of witnesses?
Now I see why even today, 21 years after his death, Flair is still putting over Brody. His death was easily one of the three worst things ever to happen in pro wrestling. His influence in terms of his wrestling style is still felt even today. There will never be another Bruiser Brody. Extremely popular everywhere he wrestled. Great scientific wrestler too. Brody's death, The Montreal Screwjob and The Fingerpoke of Doom are three worst events in pro wrestling history.
It's the 80's and he is still keeping it kayfabe, fuck arn anderson still does it in when asked by fans at places. It's just respect for the the secrets. Something fans and workers have shit on since 1995.
I cannot remember the year, but I had the opportunity to see Bruiser Brody wrestle at the Greensboro Colosseum. If I recall, it was in the early 80's. He wrestled Jack Brisco, then Mid-Atlantic Champion. He wasn't that well known around the Mid-Atlantic area unless you kept up with the wrestling magazines. Great match! Mid-Atlantic fans were not used to his style of hard core brawling. It's a shame he was murdered in such a callous way. RIP Mr. Frank Goodish.
love brody, I think he lied about being 37 though, many other clues in the interviews tell me this was 88-88 which would have made frank 39 at the youngest. anyway phenomonal stuff. this guy was a top genius in the history of the biz too
LOL If this is 1988 Brody was either 41 or 42. He was 42 when he was murdered July 1988. I don't see why he'd have any reason to lie about his age.
At anyrate, I love this interview because the fans who love Bruiser Brody, whether he was heel or face, got to see what the man was like behind the Bruiser Brody character.
the way they talked of UWF and AWA not doing well tells me he wasnt 37 at the interview time. If he were 37 this video would have been in 1983. UWF didnt exist until 1986. AWA was at the top of their game in 83 with Hogan there. They discuss Vince nationalizing wrestling which didnt happen until 84 at the earliest, wrestlmania wasnt even until 85. He wasnt that gray in 83 either. listen closely to the interview and tell me it all adds up with him being 37.
LMAO You're a trip Thickey. Brody did get hit with chairs a lot. Maybe some memory cells were knocked loose a bit.Sometimes I can't remember what I did the night before. He looks great no matter what his age may or may not be.
I do have to agree with you though, Brody was not gray at all in the early 80s. I doubt he'd have dyed his hair if he were. Being that he wasn't the vain type of man. Too many chair shot. He looks good though.
he also sai hed been wresltign for 15 years at the point of the interview which would mean he started at 22 which isnt correct. he lied about his age, I think its cool though. he was 26 or 27 when he started wrestling after college & 3 years with the skins, then a newspaper sports editor in texas, then wrestler....booyah songbird!
Brody's wrestling debut was in 1973. Oftentimes the guys train behind the scenes for years before being put in front of audiences. Brody wasn't even a liar. It's wasn't in his character. Remember Brody did dish out violence and take it as well. Perhaps too many chair shots joggled his memory recall.
just doesnt make sense that it was 1983....again uwf wasnt in existence until 1986. it makes total sense for him to say he isnt in his 40's if you think about it...it was called mid south until 1986....explain that please....and explain all the wusetins about vince expanind wrestling which didnt happen in 1983....not uncommon for a wrestler or pro athelte to lie about his age.....
Thickey you seem to be far more schooled on wrestling than I am. I'm not disputing Brody lied about his age. I said it doesn't make sense to do it. UWF was Bill Watts short lived wrestling broadcast. Mid South was the Georgia Championship Wrestling. Although I'm certain you'll argue with me about that. Like I mentioned before. Who cares how old or young Brody was here. He looks great and he's so damn charming on this interview, I have been having fantasies about him. LOL I
you should look up mid south wrestling on wikipedia, or read brody's biography, georgia championship was NOT mid south. mid south was bill watts territory in NWA until 1986 when he tried to go it on his own and became UWF. it was defuncnt by 88. UWF was relaunched out of NYC in 1990 that had nothing to do with watts. you should do your homework before getting on in here though , my friend. BTW Jim Barnett ran Georgia wrestling and cut a deal with TBS to get on TV the same time WAtts did
Thanks for the wrestling lesson Thickey. You just don't quit do you? LOL I'm currently reading Brody's biography. I'm not a fan of Bill Watts and have hear any wrestler with nice things to say about him.
thickey1156 is correct, Georgia Championship Wrestling is not and never was Mid-South Championship Wrestling. GCW was based in Atlanta, Mid-South was Louisiana. And for a long time, 1944-1974 the late Paul Jones (not the wrestler turned manager) was the founding promoter. Then followed Jim Barnett, the Briscoes, and then Ole Anderson. Take it from someone who grew up in Atlanta.
Bruiser was one of a kind, and when I learned of his death in 1988 and how it happened, left me in a daze for a week. Now anytime I see Mike Knox in WWE he looks so much like Bruiser even since he grew that beard.
Same here. I STILL miss Bruiser Brody! He was my absolute favorite as a kid and thanks to cyberspace and you tube, I have been reintroduced to the big man. It's great.
Oh that piece of shit who killed him, not only got away with murder. He was allowed to wrestle the same night from what's been reported. He even changed clothes after he killed Brody. He still had a career. Brody's murder was senseless. Mike Knox doesn't remind me of Brody. I may need to see a match or two of his. Brody was in a class by himself.
Yes. I have heard Tony tell his account a couple of times. I actually have a shoot interview he did from several years ago, where he made accusations against Brody, which I personally do not believe.
He was announced at age 42 when I learned of his death on a program that used to come on Saturdays called Superstars of Wrestling that was hosted by Joe Pedicino and Boni Blackstone. And it was that program where I saw this interview.
I was recently on a site with guys who claimed they did the "shoot" interview with Bruiser Brody in 1983, if this indeed the case, Brody WAS 37 at the time. At any rate, I don't care what his age was. All I know is I am STILL a fan even in his death and I need to own the interview. The site didn't respond to inquiries, so my money will not be spent there.
while he didn't expose "the big secret" he certainly didn't keep kayfabe. he was so unlike the Bruiser character in this, and that what is so great. a real Frank Goodish interview. phenomenal!
This is incredible footage. Oh the road stories Brody could tell if he were still alive. It's great seeing him as a man behind a wild, violent persona.
Thank you for posting these amazing clips. What a gift. That moment when Apter asks about what it might be like when he's 60 or 70 is kind of heartbreaking.

He looks good though.

he also sai hed been wresltign for 15 years at the point of the interview which would mean he started at 22 which isnt correct. he lied about his age, I think its cool though. he was 26 or 27 when he started wrestling after college & 3 years with the skins, then a newspaper sports editor in texas, then wrestler....booyah songbird!
thickey1156 2 years ago
Brody's wrestling debut was in 1973. Oftentimes the guys train behind the scenes for years before being put in front of audiences. Brody wasn't even a liar. It's wasn't in his character. Remember Brody did dish out violence and take it as well. Perhaps too many chair shots joggled his memory recall.

just doesnt make sense that it was 1983....again uwf wasnt in existence until 1986. it makes total sense for him to say he isnt in his 40's if you think about it...it was called mid south until 1986....explain that please....and explain all the wusetins about vince expanind wrestling which didnt happen in 1983....not uncommon for a wrestler or pro athelte to lie about his age.....
thickey1156 2 years ago
Thickey you seem to be far more schooled on wrestling than I am. I'm not disputing Brody lied about his age. I said it doesn't make sense to do it. UWF was Bill Watts short lived wrestling broadcast. Mid South was the Georgia Championship Wrestling. Although I'm certain you'll argue with me about that. Like I mentioned before. Who cares how old or young Brody was here. He looks great and he's so damn charming on this interview, I have been having fantasies about him. LOL I
Softbird27 2 years ago
you should look up mid south wrestling on wikipedia, or read brody's biography, georgia championship was NOT mid south. mid south was bill watts territory in NWA until 1986 when he tried to go it on his own and became UWF. it was defuncnt by 88. UWF was relaunched out of NYC in 1990 that had nothing to do with watts. you should do your homework before getting on in here though , my friend. BTW Jim Barnett ran Georgia wrestling and cut a deal with TBS to get on TV the same time WAtts did
thickey1156 2 years ago
Thanks for the wrestling lesson Thickey. You just don't quit do you? LOL I'm currently reading Brody's biography. I'm not a fan of Bill Watts and have hear any wrestler with nice things to say about him.
Softbird27 2 years ago
mid south terrtiroy consisted of Louisiana, mississippi, arkansas and oklahoma.....NOT georgia
thickey1156 2 years ago
thickey1156 is correct, Georgia Championship Wrestling is not and never was Mid-South Championship Wrestling. GCW was based in Atlanta, Mid-South was Louisiana. And for a long time, 1944-1974 the late Paul Jones (not the wrestler turned manager) was the founding promoter. Then followed Jim Barnett, the Briscoes, and then Ole Anderson. Take it from someone who grew up in Atlanta.
laggerg 2 years ago
Laggerg, I get it. You grew up in Atlanta and Thickey is an authority on wrestling. Wonderful. I'm just a 30 year old fan of Bruiser Brody's.LOL
Softbird27 2 years ago
Bruiser was one of a kind, and when I learned of his death in 1988 and how it happened, left me in a daze for a week. Now anytime I see Mike Knox in WWE he looks so much like Bruiser even since he grew that beard.
laggerg 2 years ago
Same here. I STILL miss Bruiser Brody! He was my absolute favorite as a kid and thanks to cyberspace and you tube, I have been reintroduced to the big man. It's great.
Softbird27 2 years ago
Oh that piece of shit who killed him, not only got away with murder. He was allowed to wrestle the same night from what's been reported. He even changed clothes after he killed Brody. He still had a career. Brody's murder was senseless. Mike Knox doesn't remind me of Brody. I may need to see a match or two of his. Brody was in a class by himself.

Have you seen the interview with Tony Atlas' account as to what he witnessed in Brody's death?
laggerg 2 years ago
Yes. I have heard Tony tell his account a couple of times. I actually have a shoot interview he did from several years ago, where he made accusations against Brody, which I personally do not believe.
Softbird27 2 years ago
He was announced at age 42 when I learned of his death on a program that used to come on Saturdays called Superstars of Wrestling that was hosted by Joe Pedicino and Boni Blackstone. And it was that program where I saw this interview.

I was recently on a site with guys who claimed they did the "shoot" interview with Bruiser Brody in 1983, if this indeed the case, Brody WAS 37 at the time. At any rate, I don't care what his age was. All I know is I am STILL a fan even in his death and I need to own the interview. The site didn't respond to inquiries, so my money will not be spent there.

wonder y they didnt market this

did they say who it was who interviewed him?
wkruk1979 2 years ago
while he didn't expose "the big secret" he certainly didn't keep kayfabe. he was so unlike the Bruiser character in this, and that what is so great. a real Frank Goodish interview. phenomenal!

fuck dads who dont want there sons to have pony tales, right wing losers....

Great interview. Naturally he still had to protect kayfabe in the 80s, but most of this interview was more like Frank Goodish than Brody.
Thanks for posting it!

This is incredible footage. Oh the road stories Brody could tell if he were still alive. It's great seeing him as a man behind a wild, violent persona.
Softbird27 2 years ago
wow amazing video! Kept Kayfabe going while not talking like Vince.
