  • I just realized the "someone" that whispered in Elwood's ear was Harvey :)

  • I'm wondering if this was an actual dream Pip had

  • love this

  • "you control your emotions, how simple is that" fcking true fucking true!

  • @conniehoang: You COMPLETELY missed the point of the song. If you listened to the last part, he said that actually, the OPPOSITE is true. Which is exactly what the world’s leading neuroscientists say too. Saying you control your emotions, is a absurd as saying you can be north of north pole. You ARE your emotions. There is no concept of “one thing controlling another”. And factually, your rational brain has to go through your emotional brain to even get to the outside. So good luck!

  • I feel rather than a music artist Scroobius (whilst having the ability to make fucking awesome tunes) is more of a preecher (not the jahova's witness annoying type) but the make you think about yourself and smile type :D

  • @TheAsymmetrical: By asking such questions, you are already way above 99% of the people out there. Maybe that will add to your happiness. :)

But my philosophy (this aspect of it) is two words, that are one: Win-win.

The right choice is, to not let it force you to choose. It’s a false dichotomy. A fallacy.

When you make others happy, they make you happy even more, so you can make them happy even more. And if they don’t, you find better people. We do teamwork *because* we’re egocentric. :)

  • @TheAsymmetrical immanuel kant is the greatest role model for anyone. 99.99% people who study philosophy say he lived a VERY unremarkable life,,, rarely left his home town etc etc, but this is the wrong view. the people who say this are the ones who are subconsciously torn up and need so much that we would obviously assume that if he doesnt have all that stuff that his life is unremarkable,,we should look at ourselves before we look at him!, i ramble! only to help though!

  • people always spout the "this music changed my life maaan" but when someone says it in reference to this song I can truly believe them

it's a fucking crime this video has so few views, this right here is god damned art

  • Waiting for the beat to kick in, But it never does!<3

  • All ye who have watch this video count yourselves lucky- because you have witnessed art in such a pure, distilled, and unadulterated state and I guarantee that, to whatever degree all 74020 of you have shared in something profound and moving. Thank you Scroobius Pip for providing such an experience.

  • holy shit i just relized that Pip totally remindes me of lead singer of clutch XD

  • fantastic, really truly fantastic

  • This and Kutiman’s “I’m new” are the two best pieces of music on all of YouTube right there!

  • I fucking love this song. The beat itself is awesome, and the words just ring so true. The final verse just gives me goosebumps evey single time.

  • what's the song at the end? or it is supose to end like that

  • @xxoscarxx67 It's called "Reading My Dreams", it'sa hidden track :)

  • Waiting for the beat to kick in , but it never does.. well i still enjoy the song!! I DONT CARE!! :D

  • He reminds me of the main character of Lie to Me*, the pulp fiction guy.

  • @Aritumex tim roth, also in the incredable hulk

  • @tonilando Yes him (: His voice.

  • WOW insane song lol!

  • *I* kicked my own very personal beat in.

And I know for most people this is a sin.

Since today it seems that “fashion” decides,

which view of ourselves in our heads resides.

Opening our eyes and observing the world…

replaced by opinions yelled and hurled.

Passively sucked into shoes and toupets,

    we all became political puppets.

  • its am amazing song but whats with the bit at the end. im not saying i dont like it but i dont understand why :L

  • @niku2020 Start of the next track I think

  • @niku2020 It's a hidden track.

  • I found this by accident but it defiantly serves my purpose. ima keep up with these brothers. peace from first and last uk.

  • You may think yourself in general to be a nice guy,

But I'm telling you now - that right there is a lie,

Even the nicest of guys has some nasty within 'em,

You don't have to be backlit to be the villain,

Whether it be greed lust or just plain vindictiveness,

There's a level of benevolence inside all of us,

You can paint yourself an image and live in your own little dream,

But this ain't a dream, it's one big silver screen,

So when you think you've got your happy ending don't ever forget it,

  • @TeddehSpaghetti Just one problem with that. It's "There's a level of Malevolence inside all of us" ;)

  • Basically what I'm trying to say to you is,

You don't achieve anything by letting the past rule within you,

Getting all pent up and angry about stuff just eats away inside you,

What's that other line of yours..

'If you can't forgive and forget,

    How's this,

Forget forgivin' and just accept that that's it',

See that's how it's gotta be.

Then you can fall in love, get on with your life and be free",

favorite part! scroobius is a genius and dan le sac knows a good beat when he hears it!

  • I love this song so much, particularly were he kind of sounds nervous it adds a lot of emotion to the song.

  • Who is Billy Brown? I know Elwood P.Dowd, Walter Neff and Lloyd Dobbler. Help me.

  • @Nepas3 The lessons you can get from the song. the characters mentioned are from:

    Elwood P Dowd - "Harvey"

    Lloyd Doppler - "Say Anything"

    Billy Brown - "Buffalo 66"

    Walter Neff - "Double Indemnity"

  • This is my favourite song of all time

  • i don't understand why this song has 2 parts, and the second part is really bad...

  • @minxamo Are you talking about the Bonus track on the album? Or part of the actual song?

  • @nmckee503 the part from 7:10 to 9:01

  • @smiththatsoriginal: It’s sad that you missed the entire part after that in the song. Because it turns it all around. In that you can’t really lie to yourself. Sometimes you *are* unhappy. And rightfully so. But it’s better to be in reality than living a lie of fake happiness or sadness.

  • Love this song so much, it's a real mood changer, I occasionally go to this if I'm feeling like I need to sort my shit out. Kind of silly to be inspired by music in this way, but it is pretty inspiriring.

  • I love this song and so many others from these guys.

"How hard is it to decide to be in a good mood and then just be...in a good mood?"

"Just forget forgivin' and accept that that's it."

"You can live your life in control and be nice,But even that will not promise you a happy life"

    I love those lines

  • What;s that bit at the end? It's beautiful.

Where can i find the rest?

  • @hugy789 That's it. It's a short poem by Scroobius Pip called "Reading My Dreams". Not part of Waiting For The Beat To Kick In. Was meant to be a hidden track although it starts more or less straight after.

  • just heard this via a mates recommendation, its a superb, very clever, magic,i must see them asap

  • 5 people didn't hear the beat kick in

  • iv just got in to him coz i found out he is playin at snowbombig festival love him and i love sleepin too

  • 5 people must have a mental retardation

  • Love the drumming and this!

As well of the lyrics melody and the general song tbh...

  • I love that he uses a quote here from Lloyd Dobler in Say Anything. Fantastic movie, but this song is better. Mr. Pip you sir are more than just a song writer, but a philosopher, and your music's truly impacted my life. Thank you.

  • he meets elwood p dowd and harvey (his invisibile rabbit)...sick!

  • just watched dls and sp at beathearder was absolutly amazing stole the show

  • Gaaawd! This song simple kicks ass. XD XD

  • This just blew my fucking mind

  • @theabobination My mind blew this song to thank it for blowing my mind.

  • amazing...every song he does feels like one of the deepest speeches i have ever heard...

  • this is my new favourite song

  • everybody loves scroobs sick poetic skills & dans beats that fill out the stories of the songs. ohhh yes.

  • The last part, where he gets loud basically says, that all the ideas he got told before, are nice and fine, but exactly that: Not complete. You can lie to yourself all day long, and put on fake smiles. But at the end of the day, the horrors will still come up, and the irrational anger will burst out as soon as you are drunk.

Youll be waiting for it to finally go away, and you being able to live *really* happily, *but it never does*!

(Luckily, from experience I know, that facing it, fixes it.)

  • Guys, you all really really misunderstood the point of this song. I myself experienced that one: Scroob tells you about just deciding to be happy, and be it. Like forgetting and ignoring your past. The thing is, that thats only half the story. And it will come back to bite you. Because you cant suppress a problem like that. it will come out elsewhere. Where its even harder to recognize and fix it. And if you dont face that thing, instead of running away, it *will* destroy your life. :(

  • Epic song. Great beginning, too.

  • right after he says that, he moves on to billy brown who is nervous and sketchy. he says "You can't let the past dwell within you".

  • @CraigHerndon2009 maybe he's the personification of a part of the scroob?

  • "If you can't forgive and forget, how's this, forget forgiving and just accept that's it. See that's how it's gotta be." Fucking love it

  • POET

    awesome

  • angles refers to the song angles where he speaks about the boy who steals and commits suicide after being caught

  • Hes a brilliant poet with awesome beats.

hes not a prophet etc, its just we never really hear this sort of talent these days.

    BTW The end sounds amazing!

  • This is an awesome song.

  • i swear everyone who has made mention to the album has called is 'angels' not 'angles'.... why is this? surely not everyone has mistyped it, and if you've actually listened to the album you'll undertand that 'angles' makes loads more sense than 'angles'..... sort it out guys.

  • it is Angles, look at the album cover - that's definitely not a typo :).

It's just a lot of people making a mistake :)

  • 'angles' makes loads more sense than 'angles'

    you spelled them the same.

  • @mayesy321 you are a retard sort "yourself" out

  • Yeah, it makes sense when the title song's chorus is "Things in life aren't always quite what they seem, there's more than one given angle to any one given scene".

  • Coincidentally, you spelled Angels wrong in your post about spelling and reading.

  • Lloyd Dobler is pretty cool.

  • I think Scroobius Pip may be a prophet of some sort. Listen to his words. They all include some profound meaning, or some life lesson.

  • @holuj49 AFAIK his origins lie in spoken word poetry. He's only rolled into this by accident when he met Dan Le Sac, rather than tried to make it in music. His lyrics are based on his poetry, rather than written specifically for a musical piece. That's why the style is so hard to place, since his vocals are not what you'd usually find in music - They're not lyrics, but poetry.

  • @holuj49 If I believed in Christianity I'd say he is the second coming.

  • 2:51 Let's see if this works for Symone...

  • all of these tiresome things, that we know and love, waiting for the beat to kick in. but it never does.

  • i also like sleeping

  • awesome song. Go ahead and cut it in half you haven't already.

  • well not constantly... =p

  • finally some rap not about sex drugs violence and swearing....5*!!

  • he swore in it :/

  • @TheOneBailey

Swearing is just another way to convey emotion. He uses it appropriately, most rappers use it because they are too stupid to come up with any alternative - probably more appropriate words.

  • Please expand...

  • like they say in their "thou shalt always kill" song,

"Thou shalt remember that guns, bitches and bling were never part of the four elements and never will be."

    now that's good hiphop :]

  • If there ever was a plea, to live life. It would be this composition. The tone of desperation at the end is almost palpable. I find myself shedding a cathartic tear, letting go of another brick of pain, letting it fall upon th ground, as I make my own beat.

As with all music that matters, I walk away different than when I entered.

  • Isnt this about the book Great expectations?

  • Because of the 'ahhh mr.pip he said out loud' ?

You could say that, but the guy is called Scroobius Pip, he's just really clever with his writing (Y)

peace man, have a good life xxx

  • this has got to be one of the best songs i have heard in a helluva long time

if you cant forgive and forget, forget forgiving and accept thats it- possibly THE best line i have ever come across.

  • Definitely one of the best songs he dose it's sad not more ppl listen to this one sad ppl :(

  • Absolutely Fantastic.

  • *jaw drop*

i mean like the ultimate jaw drop, its so awesome! the jaw droped at like angles and magicians assistant and basically all of his songs! but this song took the freakin jaw-drop cake.

  • absolutely awesome song

  • Fuck this song is awsome. This shit is so inspirational!!!!

  • When the song gets to about 7:11 minutes, the secret track plays. It is called "Reading My Dreams". So it plays on this video. A shortened version of "Waiting for the Beat to Kick In" was released as an iTunes bonus, and the secret track was release separatly.

  • Walter Neff is from "Double Indemnity," an old Noir film - which would be in keeping with the song's mention of "New York in old films." Billy Brown is possibly from "Buffalo '66," it's the only reference to the name that I can find on IMDB (all of the names seem to be from films).

  • Yes. Billy Brown is from Buffalo 66. The movie is all about accepting your past and letting it go.

  • Elwood p dowd is from the film "harvey". he says "in this life you can be oh so smart or oh so pleasant, for years i was smart- i reccomend pleasant" in the film. Good show btw

  • Love that film.

  • this song literally changed my life. sounds cliche but it's true

  • yeah, ollie, that as creative.
