This track was supposed to go on their first LP (I think?) but they ended up donating it to the "Dark Was the Night" album which features various artists that also donated a song for the AIDS cause/awareness. All proceeds are used towards AIDS non-profit organizations for teaching AIDS awareness.
Compared to the Blogotheque version of this, which is one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen on the internet, this is a little disappointing.
Seriously, these guys need to sell all that equipment and just tour with an out of tune piano and some empty beer bottles and get everyone to clap along with them.
I've thought the same thing, but I think this is going to sound really good recorded. Still, I watched the La Blogotheque version every day for a long time. It blew my mind.
I too love the Take Away version of this song, but give this one a shot...I can't explain what he's doing different with his vocals in this but it's incredible. I've listened to the studio version of this song and it sucks...anyone else found this to be the case with most Yeasayer studio versions?
These guys seem to sound way better live than on the album.
In fact, I didn't want to see their show in seattle because I had only heard the songs they had on their myspace and wasn't convinced that they were any good. But now that I've obsessively watched their live shows online, I'm definitely gonna see them next time they come to seattle. I can't believe i missed them.
They did well on Jools Holland, but then they should be slick as they've had a lot of practice at playing their quite limited repertoire. I like the bass player's '70's German prog rock band' look but am a little unsure about lead singer's ego and beard. That falsetto makes my fillings ache a bit too.
his ego and voice have changed a lot while touring. i saw them early on and saw them a week ago. he went from trying the falsetto the whole time to lowering it an octave and jsut making higher pitched noises with his keyboard and other instruments. it is really a GREAT lvie show...it all runs so smoothly...no cutoffs or breath-cathing moments
loving this group so damn f@*kin dope

You can suck on my penis. Yeasayer is amazing and makes incredible music, you just clearly cannot appreciate such a thing.

Oh my gosh! I totally agree. Those Take Away Shows are so amazing. You should watch the Fleet Foxes one if you haven't yet.

To much going on in this song, The piano should be the only intrument, like in the Lalogotheque take away show. I love that video.

Yeasayer's Take-Away Show is unreal. It's well worth a look if you're a fan, and it just might win you over if you aren't!

It most definetely won me over. You should also check out the KEXP live performance podcast!!!

Yeah thats the best version ever... its really amazing. Most of the Take-Away shows tend to be people's best versions of thier songs....
I'm not sure what it is about the Lalogotheque videos, they seem to capture the artist at exactly the right time to do so.
Beautiful.
