The farther you move the electricity, the more you lose. Superconductors could be used, but they'll require a fair bit of maintenance (cooling, notably).
I'm very much in favour of a national smart grid, but not so we can send electricity from New York to California.
thinbk he is a good choice.. john holdren even better as science + tech boss.. both are of sound science people and as the greedy bunch go out these smart ones go in. thanks god. what a relief to finally have some competence in place . less bs and greed . more substance and reasoning. logic. halleluja...!!
I love this guy. He's my favourite cabinet member by far. You can see from this video that he's going to integrate the role of science-advocate-in-chief in to the role of Secretary of Energy.
global warming is a fraud. The earths tempeture is affected mostly by the sun not people. When the sun heats and cools so does the earth. Are the SUVs making saturn and mars hotter too? The earth is actually going into a cooling phase since the sun cooled.
Apparently, there is unanimous agreement on the seriousness of Climate Change. So much so that the subject is entirely uncontroversial. Thank you Steven!
The data show clearly that global temps have elevated before CO2 levels have. I'm all for protecting the environment and cleaner energy, but stick to facts. We can't even accurately forecast next week's weather; it's pretty ignorant to assume that we can predict what the climate may or may not do in the coming decades. What you and others are doing is trying to repeat something over and over so people will believe it; then it'll be easier to sock them with a carbon tax.
don't be stupid,it is just common sense that better prevent things when you have even very less evidence than doing nothing then you face up the disaster when it is too late to do thigs.
This was good, very authentic too. Try to do more of these pieces here, explaining issues that clearly. Some of this I knew, but a lot of it I didn't, and it's great to have things pulled together.
This guy is supposed to be a genius anyway, I remember how climate scientists here in Germany went mildly bananas in their statements to the press when they were asked to comment on his joining the Obama administration, that's how thrilled they were.
America is a place founded on the idea that everyone should have the right to live up to his or her God-giving potentials.

Climate change is a very serious problem and any effort to help the climate is not only welcome but also needed.

He doesn't speak very well, but he thinks well, and that's much more important.

Thank you for the lengthy response and actually explaining the concepts.
I've said many time on public political boards that you're the best Sec. pick, for your merit.

I can rest a little easier knowing we have intellectual leadership in this country again. How I've missed it so.

And more generally speaking, keep bringing science back into governing - and to the people. It's such a relief after that long dark night.

I really hope that, now that Mr. Chu will be the energy secretary, that the US will sign the Kyoto protocol.
