The woman on here is pretty funny, but I didn't laugh at all. I imagined a man was saying it and it became funny, but we she says it I don't laugh. Perhaps it has something to do with the way men view women.
Differences in humor aside, do women find men funnier than other women? I mean, if a woman and a man tell the same joke, which will the average woman find funnier?
Not everyone in the world can hear. In the future if you don't understand why something is the way it is then it might be better to ask why first instead of swearing.
@Tammc09 Aha I'm sorry but American stand ups are tacky and their punch lines are more like soft pokes. Their topics are dull and they whine about a lot of stuff but don't effectively use irony or sarcasm. There really isn't a lot of scope outside britain, although Iceland's got a good comedian if you're willing to watch the subtitles. Better than any american comedian I've seen by a long shot.
@Tammc09 I like how you don't bother defending your taste. You obviously have nothing substantial to say. I fear you're the one with the terrible taste, and if you can't prove otherwise don't bother replying.
@JohnS1704 yes I have heard of them, and some of them are even funny. But seeing as how I'm not planning on writing a dissertation about the subject I will be speaking about it in a more general point of view. That is, generally speaking American comedians just aren't that amusing. If you want a one liner you should try Tim Vine :D
There's a huge amount of irony in Chappelle's sketches - I don't remember laughing at any of his stand-up clips, but I haven't watched too many of those, either ;)
Comedians come from pain and rejection. Having a vagina means that somebody somewhere definitely wants you for at least a few minutes. Thus then females don't develop true comedy chops.
@Insubordinate90 I know a lot of Americans that have trouble understanding British accents, never mind the Australian ones. I used to have to translate for my wife with Australian friends. They were really nice about not laughing at her.
@Insubordinate90 Not everyone in the word has English as their first language. It is often helpful to them and to non-British English speakers to have subtitles. If you have nothing constructive to say about the video or the topic why not STFU.
(cont. - accidentally hit send button). ...that will hit you and they know how to deliver it with confidence. Really funny female stand ups know how to have that relaxed confidence and hit you hard with a clever angle that you don't see coming a mile away.
see, this is why women arn't funny. every joke they possibly try to make almost always connects men with sex, as if that hasn't been done about 100 trillion times before. there's no originality. men have short, to the point one-liners or rebuttals and it's laughs all throughout the house.
It's largely, I think, because unless a woman has looks which would actually make a rat retch they really don't have to try to endear themselves in day-to-day social life to be accepted by men. Males who aren't naturally beautiful and well-built enough to be instantly attractive (which is most of us, let's face it), have always had to show off to succeed socially and are therefore better at it. Men also have also evolved far more expressive faces than women for the same reason.
Anyone who thinks Ronni Ancona isn't funny needs to watch her joke about obscurity. I imagine if there is indeed any imbalance (and here in Australia our panel shows typically have three of each) I'd say it stems back to the source of most professional inequalities: That up until very recently the pressures upon women to stay and home and raise a child were so powerful that for a woman to be heading out to comedy clubs at night to hone her craft was to defy extraordinary social tides.
I guess there are more male comedians in business because men have the need to show off in all kinds of ways. (Just my personal theory.) That is not saying anything about who is talented and who is funny!
And I also noticed when I watched "AbFab" for the first time that I had to get used to jokes written and acted by women... it had been nearly unknown to me before!
Good thing Jack interupted that girl in the black hair when he did. She was about to make a terrible joke about her being someone else which would have been dreadful.
p.s. I think Jo Brand is the only good female comedian out there.
Dee just put that whole debate to rest really didn't he.
Women just aren't as funny in general. That's pretty much public opinion. And in something like comedy. That's all that matters.
Women just aren't as funny. You find the odd female comedian who'll make you laugh. And some that are even really good. But I can honestly say that all of the greats are and always have been male.
I don't think even 1 woman makes it near my top 20.
I think Jennifer Saunders has proven this "women aren't funny" thing wrong.. my theory is that women usually don't wan't to be comedians because they get judged by their appeareance--^ less competition--^ you don't have to be hilarious to appear as a guest on these shows.
@TheCardam0m Actually, when watching comedy, women laugh more than men. When women are watching female comics, they do not laugh as much as they do when watching male comedians. The true test of comedy is the audience's reaction. Therefore, it has to be said that women are not as funny as men.
the only women i genuinely found hilarious were the girls in 'absolutely fabulous' .....that was a funny female programme, they are special cases i think
Haha - apparently there is some kind of evolutionary theory that men are genetically programmed to be funny in order to attract women for reproductive purposes. Whereas it wasn't as crucial in women to be funny to attract men.
I think its because if men tell an outrageous and crass joke its seen as funny but if women tell the same jokes its seen as tasteless.
