  • I've laughed at men as well as women but I live in the netherlands so maybe this could be an issue? ps: French and Saunders make my sides split.

  • seriuosly - LMfAO @ 0:34

  • Jack Dee just owned them with one line

  • The woman on here is pretty funny, but I didn't laugh at all. I imagined a man was saying it and it became funny, but we she says it I don't laugh. Perhaps it has something to do with the way men view women.

Differences in humor aside, do women find men funnier than other women? I mean, if a woman and a man tell the same joke, which will the average woman find funnier?

  • @SpazzyMcGee1337 Woman will find a joke equally funny if a woman tells it, as long as there are no men around

  • The old lady is funny because shes quite manly. that hot one is so cringey and unfunny

  • @HRHooChicken The younger woman is trying too hard, the older one, (Sandi Toksvig), is actually funny, knows it and is relaxed about it.

  • Jack Dee absolutely destroyed them...

  • what a one liner from jack dee.

  • The man in pink has a point.

  • @Insubordinate90

Not everyone in the world can hear. In the future if you don't understand why something is the way it is then it might be better to ask why first instead of swearing.

  • i think the older woman was quite funny

  • @OneWayRoad definetly

  • @OneWayRoad Sandi Toksvig

  • dear derekbd, are you a redditor?

  • I just wonder how many female comedians have their texts written by MEN!

  • Why do female comedians always have to make period jokes

  • Brits aren't necessarily funny. Just bitchy (even the men).

  • @JRCrowley Yes, and it's funny, it's often overplayed for comedic effect

  • @JRCrowley Name 5 good non British stand up comedians.

  • @BlueShadowIaido I'm British but here goes:

    Louis CK

    Dave Chappelle

    Chris Rock

    Jerry Seinfeld

    Zach Galifianakis

  • @Tammc09 Chris Rock wasn't bad, but I couldn't find a funny video of any of the other 4 sorry.....

  • @BlueShadowIaido You obviously have terrible taste.

  • @Tammc09 Aha I'm sorry but American stand ups are tacky and their punch lines are more like soft pokes. Their topics are dull and they whine about a lot of stuff but don't effectively use irony or sarcasm. There really isn't a lot of scope outside britain, although Iceland's got a good comedian if you're willing to watch the subtitles. Better than any american comedian I've seen by a long shot.

  • @BlueShadowIaido Terrible taste.

  • @Tammc09 I like how you don't bother defending your taste. You obviously have nothing substantial to say. I fear you're the one with the terrible taste, and if you can't prove otherwise don't bother replying.

  • @BlueShadowIaido Terrible taste.

  • @Tammc09 I know. You should change it, and your trolling/arguing/flaming tactics, because they're terrible too.

  • @BlueShadowIaido Terrible taste.

  • @Tammc09 Heroic effort pal.

  • @BlueShadowIaido Thank you.

  • @BlueShadowIaido You never heard of Bill Hicks, Steven Wright, Rich Hall, Larry David etc...? There is nothing like a sweeping gereralisation.

Benny Hill, Little and Large, Tom O'connor, now there are some of the great British one- liner legends - all crap !

  • @JohnS1704 yes I have heard of them, and some of them are even funny. But seeing as how I'm not planning on writing a dissertation about the subject I will be speaking about it in a more general point of view. That is, generally speaking American comedians just aren't that amusing. If you want a one liner you should try Tim Vine :D

  • @BlueShadowIaido You may not want to dissertate but that does not excuse you from talking crap.

  • @JohnS1704 You're arguing on youtube mate. You're already talking crap :P

  • @BlueShadowIaido No I amn't.

  • @BlueShadowIaido Bill Hicks was genius. watch "sane man" sometime

  • @BlueShadowIaido

There's a huge amount of irony in Chappelle's sketches - I don't remember laughing at any of his stand-up clips, but I haven't watched too many of those, either ;)

  • @Tammc09

He said five GOOD non-British comedians, not anyone you can think of.

  • Comedians come from pain and rejection. Having a vagina means that somebody somewhere definitely wants you for at least a few minutes. Thus then females don't develop true comedy chops.

  • Thanks for subtitles, it's often hard for me to understand everything just by hearing ;P

  • @bumberschluf Not everybody can hear.

  • Christopher Hitchen's says it best in his article, "Why women aren't funny".

  • @Insubordinate90 you sir are retarded.

  • @Insubordinate90 I know a lot of Americans that have trouble understanding British accents, never mind the Australian ones. I used to have to translate for my wife with Australian friends. They were really nice about not laughing at her.

  • damn!!! damn!! daaaaamn!!

that was great at the end!!

  • @Insubordinate90 Someone seems to forget that deaf people exist..

  • @Insubordinate90 Not everyone in the word has English as their first language. It is often helpful to them and to non-British English speakers to have subtitles. If you have nothing constructive to say about the video or the topic why not STFU.

  • @derekbd YOU TELL THAT BLOODY BLIMEY BASTARD!

  • sarah palin is pretty funny...oh wait

  • 0:40 to 1:30. That's exactly why.

  • Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

  • wtf

    sarah silverman is funny

  • @SLAMTproductions Lol, good one...

  • it was very funny they would not shut up

  • (cont. - accidentally hit send button). ...that will hit you and they know how to deliver it with confidence. Really funny female stand ups know how to have that relaxed confidence and hit you hard with a clever angle that you don't see coming a mile away.

  • Men, in general, are funnier because they are more clever. Not smarter necessarily, but they see a smart punchline that

  • not ALL women arent funny i think some are pretty good if i could remember their names

  • see, this is why women arn't funny. every joke they possibly try to make almost always connects men with sex, as if that hasn't been done about 100 trillion times before. there's no originality. men have short, to the point one-liners or rebuttals and it's laughs all throughout the house.

  • You have to be mean to be a good comedian.

  • @frankvonfrauner That's not right cause women can be very very mean

  • @MrTom11234 They can be. But most of them aren't. I never said "no women are mean."

Check out Bonnie McFarlane. She is one of the funniest women in comedy, and she will brutalize people remorselessly.

  • Nailed it.

  • Women make too long jokes and just dont shut up. Men usually deliver one-liners and the audience seems to love it!

  • That dude, he reminds me of Jack Nicolson... his look that is.

  • There are practically no funny stand up female comedians. I don't know why though.

  • Silly women, you don't have time to write jokes. Your to busy in the kitchen. Trololol

  • @Womiak made me larf, except it should be "you're" :-)

  • @derekbd Woah folks, we've got a wrong word here. Alert the Grammar Nazis!

  • @Yodamanjaro I can't help it. :-) <this smiley face is to say, I mean no harm

  • LOL

  • Crikey, the comments have gotten wordy and serious. It's FUNNY ffs!

  • It's largely, I think, because unless a woman has looks which would actually make a rat retch they really don't have to try to endear themselves in day-to-day social life to be accepted by men. Males who aren't naturally beautiful and well-built enough to be instantly attractive (which is most of us, let's face it), have always had to show off to succeed socially and are therefore better at it. Men also have also evolved far more expressive faces than women for the same reason.

  • Anyone who thinks Ronni Ancona isn't funny needs to watch her joke about obscurity. I imagine if there is indeed any imbalance (and here in Australia our panel shows typically have three of each) I'd say it stems back to the source of most professional inequalities: That up until very recently the pressures upon women to stay and home and raise a child were so powerful that for a woman to be heading out to comedy clubs at night to hone her craft was to defy extraordinary social tides.

  • I guess there are more male comedians in business because men have the need to show off in all kinds of ways. (Just my personal theory.) That is not saying anything about who is talented and who is funny!

And I also noticed when I watched "AbFab" for the first time that I had to get used to jokes written and acted by women... it had been nearly unknown to me before!

  • I was told about the british sense of humor. I certainly enjoy it. They make fun of everything in such a crude way and they don't take offense.

  • @1REVINT And it's a wonderful thing.

  • I doubt I am alone in this, I find men's voice just more comfortable to listen too.

That Ronnie girl sounds fucking annoying.

  • Good thing Jack interupted that girl in the black hair when he did. She was about to make a terrible joke about her being someone else which would have been dreadful.

p.s. I think Jo Brand is the only good female comedian out there.

  • The short answer is - most female comics are hired for their looks rather than their talent. Ronni.

  • @MrBuch169169 if that were true, sandi toksvig and jo brand would be out of a job

  • @suicidedelinquent Actually I like both of those. Those two, and a few others, aren't covered by 'most'.

  • @MrBuch169169 you say that with sandi toksvig right next to her

  • @minihats Yeah but I was hoping you wouldn't notice. I think Toksvig is hilarious!

  • @MrBuch169169 And the long answer is much more complex and subtle, and not as one dimensional.

  • ronnie ancona is too hot for words

  • Dee just put that whole debate to rest really didn't he.

Women just aren't as funny in general. That's pretty much public opinion. And in something like comedy. That's all that matters.

Women just aren't as funny. You find the odd female comedian who'll make you laugh. And some that are even really good. But I can honestly say that all of the greats are and always have been male.

I don't think even 1 woman makes it near my top 20.

  • Dee's delivery is PERFECT. Sexism still makes excellent comedy :D

  • I think Jennifer Saunders has proven this "women aren't funny" thing wrong.. my theory is that women usually don't wan't to be comedians because they get judged by their appeareance--^ less competition--^ you don't have to be hilarious to appear as a guest on these shows.

  • @TheCardam0m Actually, when watching comedy, women laugh more than men. When women are watching female comics, they do not laugh as much as they do when watching male comedians. The true test of comedy is the audience's reaction. Therefore, it has to be said that women are not as funny as men.

  • the only women i genuinely found hilarious were the girls in 'absolutely fabulous' .....that was a funny female programme, they are special cases i think

  • @tigerfedor1 "girls" in abfab?

  • @derekbd they were funny though,come on

  • @tigerfedor1 Oh yes! But GIRLS? ;)

  • I think Ronni Ancona's long winded "comedy" answers this question. Sandy is pretty good though.

  • good old fashion sexism

  • @madeinamerica13 its not sexism its the truth

  • Haha - apparently there is some kind of evolutionary theory that men are genetically programmed to be funny in order to attract women for reproductive purposes. Whereas it wasn't as crucial in women to be funny to attract men.

  • I love sandi! no one is allowed to say a word against her. Although you'd have to be mental not to find Jack Dee's line funny

  • I like how Alan takes a victory sip almost before he finishes his sentence at 0.34

  • I like how Alan takes a victory sip almost before he finishes his sentence.

  • @neils0501 lol, indeed

  • Women aren't as funny. Simple.

  • perfect timing

  • good god, i blame you for spilling that water all over my keyboard jack dee! lmao

  • I think its because if men tell an outrageous and crass joke its seen as funny but if women tell the same jokes its seen as tasteless. I am a huge fan of Frankie Boyle but if a women came out with some of the stuff he says no one would find it funny they'd just be shocked. I think theres less of a range of material out there available to women comedians than men.

  • @redredru I think that's untrue. I would definitely laugh at good, crude jokes, no matter if a man or a woman told them.

  • can I just say: French and Saunders?!!? how can you claim women are not funny when they are def the funniest comedians Britain ever produced!!

  • @lauwer haha

    no.

  • @lauwer John Cleese? you wouldn't count John Cleese and Eric Idol as the best comedians Britain has produced?

  • @lauwer Chris Morris?? Brass Eye.

  • jack dee, what a legend

  • Ronni Ancona just isn't funny and really who wan't to see some one not being funny doing impressions of people who are also not funny.

Sandi Toksvig on the other hand is awesome.

  • This is hilarious!!! XD Omgsh!!

  • Notice that the audience roared at the men's one-liners, but were quiet as mice during the women's drawn-out nattering. It answers Stephen Fry's question perfectly, really.

  • @mgo26 Sandi had a good one near the end of the video.

It was largely because the men had funnier jokes especially the comic who got a great zinger off about how when women get started talking, you can't get them to shut up. Nice timing, there.

Its not so much gender or sex but the quality of the oneliner at work here.

  • @mgo26

everyone laughs their arses off more at the blokes because one is Alan Davies and the other is Jack Dee. 2 huge comics

  • @0gami1tto It could also have something to do with the fact Ronnie Ancona is about as funny as bladder cancer. There are plenty of funny women on QI, but she's not one of em!

  • I want to adopt LOTS of female comedians. Nothing sexier than a smart woman.

  • Such a wonderful ending :)
