Back in the old days Red was the most expensive paint to have.
I'm a Delaware boy but I have always loved PA. rigs because of the many different colors through out the state.I'm a red fire truck fan but... when a department is uniformal with the make of truck, color, and ornamentation,I'm all for it.Especially volunteer depts. Keep it classic.
Fire apparatuses everywhere should just be red... It's the traditional color. I don't know who liked the idea of a dark green fire truck. When I see red it catches my eye and the first thing that comes to my mind is FIRE TRUCK!
@stationslave57 I am pretty sure they were not. Back in the day, red was the most useful paint, because it was cheap, and caught people's eyes. You can look at any historic fire truck pictures... They are either red or a red-brown kind of color. Why do you think all old barns are painted red? Red IS the traditional color. It's been that way every since fire apparatuses began... Maybe it's just my opinion but I highly prefer red fire trucks. They catch your eye WAY better than THIS fire truck...
@Firefighter4435 No man, you have it completely backwards. Red was the most EXPENSIVE paint to make because the pigments used to make it were harder to obtain. Fire companies were very competitive in the 17 and 1800s. The company with the most lavishly decorated wagon (or truck) were considered to be a better company. Thats why they began painting the apparatus red. Thats also why we still have gold-leaf on trucks today...it was used as expensive decoration. Not being a dick, just stating facts
@stationslave57 Oh well I didn't know about red paint being expensive back then. But still, these machines deserve to look nice with the color red, after all they are FIRE trucks. They SHOULD be red. It gets your attention, looks sick, and makes you think FIRE TRUCK immediately!
@Firefighter4435 I'm anti-red trucks but I'm always happy when someone learns some history. I like odd colored apparatus because it shows character and probably has some history behind it. Plus, if every fire truck was red, there wouldnt be anything interesting about them and theyd all look the same!
@Firefighter4435 Here we have Dark Blue, Green, White, Lime-Green, and so on colors for our Firetrucks. Does it really matter what their color's are? They're all used for the same purpose: Fighting Fires. Red is not the Traditional color for MANY departments, such as my company shown above. Usually Firetrucks catch anybodys eye, no matter the color. The bright lights, loud sirens, shiny diamond plate, big wheels...but if this truck doesn't catch your eye, you might need some glasses my friend :)
@301whitehall Sure, this truck gets your attention, when its lights are flashing. But not NEARLY as much as a fire truck with the sharp white over red paint scheme found on most fire trucks around me. Hell, just the other day, I was walking home from school. It was a sunny day, I was looking down at the sidewalk. With ALL the scenery around me (green leaves, cars parked, sunlight, houses), a bright red spec caught my eye. It was a dump truck - No other color catches your eye as much as red.
Respond to this video... Therefore red is the best color for fire trucks. They should be noticed both when they aren't responding to a call and especially when they are. A bright red fire truck would catch your eye 10 times faster than the green one in this video. Look, don't get me wrong, this is a nice engine and it sounds pretty badass, but red is just THE color for these machines. It's a FIRE truck.
@Firefighter4435 man i know what your saying, but if you came to our station, you would never miss our purple, white, and black trucks! we are known for that!
@Firefighter4435 I see where you're coming from my man. PA isn't really a state that likes to keep everything normal, especially when it comes to Fire Department's. We have a wide variety of colors, most of the colors based off the Department's name and tradition, as the colors for Castle Shannon's apparatus since it was originally a Irish Town. So it might argued to be THE color for Fire trucks everywhere else, but alot of Pennsylvania Fire Departments might say otherwise :) have a good one!
Before everyone starts going: The rig didn't roll straight out for the fact that it was a MUTUAL AID CALL. They were also waiting for anymore Firefighters that might have showed up/ etc. Don't your panties up in a bunch people.
@301whitehall i have a question my uncle is a volunteer up there i am in prosses of getting firefighter 1 in florida im planning on moving there. my first Question 1) is this a paid dept 2) if paid is it paid hourly or shifts 3) is it by washington county please respond soon thank you very much
@ConspiracyTheoryGFX Hi, Castle Shannon is a 100% Volunteer Department. Castle Shannon is no where close to Washington County also, about 20 minutes away. If you're looking for a Paid Department, I reccomend either Mt. Lebanon (a Mutual Aid Department with Shannon) or the City of Pittsburgh.
are they still green now I like they colour

@bighunter315er Our Engine 1 is bigger. It's over 10 feet tall and if I'm not mistaken, had to be built in the Ladder Section of Pierce.
