I grew up in the same county that West Point is in. My dad had season tickets to Army Football. I live in Florida now, but West Point is still my most memorable place to see a football game.
@IAmFr33Xp Way to Go! By the way if you would like to see this ENTIRE PARADE search on youtube for WEST POINT PARADE I have a 'special permission' to post lengthy items and the whole 43 minutes is there. Bob M
I am a REDLEG and don't like it that the Army borrowed the Field Artillery Song and we need to find the Army a song of its own! Nothing says love like a Brigade 6!!!
Ive never seen any kind of footage of a West Point graduation. I loved it and it made me especially proud to be a US Army vet as the band did *As the ARMY Goes Marching Along* Yes. I know its suppose to be Caison..but I like Army better, lol
I'm NOWHERE compared to my brother acedemically, but I can still say that to me, West Point seems freakin crazy! I read an article about the dicipline it requires. It's now rated at #1 school and Harvard at #2.
My brother was accepted to go to West Point, and a recruiter even came to the house, but he chose Harvard instead in the end. Mom wanted him to go to West Point, but my brother didn't wanna cut off his dread locks, my brother is very much a hippish rebel type that it's funny, and he didn't wanna give in to all the dicipline West Point requires.
I appreciate the note that the song was formerly known as "The Field Artillery March" - but it was known nationally through most of the 20th century as "When The Caissons Go Rolling Along." A caisson, of course, was a horse-drawn two-wheeled wagon that carried powder and shot for - field artillery. All of us of a certain age remember that Pres. Kennedy's coffin was taken to Arlington on a caisson, and at Lincoln's funeral parade in CD as well.
good luck at west point next year. to see a whole west point parade you should go to youtube and click on west point parade 2005 it's 45 min long i put it up about a year ago
marching band are like the cheerleaders of the army, cheer them before fight and after the battle. there also useful to salute fallen soldiers. and osmetimes just for pure entertainment and popularity in civillians
Most armies of the world have bands. They play at ceremonies, parades, funerals, and events for entertainment. I guess military bands come from the bands that played field marching songs before the 1900s.
The earliest known band is the Mehter Band of the Turkish Army. It goes back about 800 years. Search for it on YouTube and Google it. I think their best tune is Ceddin Deddin Bob M
The Caisson Song is the original. In about 1959 the Army wrote new words for it - it stopped being the Field Artillery Song then and became the Army Song. I liked the old words better! :-)
First to fight, for the right, and to build the Nation's might, and the Army goes Rolling Along! Proud of all we have done, fighting till the battle's won, and the Army goes Rolling Along!
Then it's hi, hi, hey, the Army's on its way, count off the cadence loud and strong! For where'er we go, you will always know, that the Army goes Rolling Along!
If it wasn't for the face that the general public seems to be ashamed of our men in uniform, I'm sure we would have more military parades. God bless them.
yea in most European countries military parades are a tradition, but the US doesn't seem to have that tradition. Its pretty cool when u c the military parades in france , russia, and other countries with a crazy military. ItZ sad b/c the greatest military power in the world like the US doesn't have parades :(
I want to be the west point class of 2019!

Try the Merchant MArine Academy, its in NY and less people apply and there is no obligation to a particular service when you graduate

But you have to serve as a Merchant Marine on a merchant vessel after you graduate. It's life on the seas for several years.

Yeah. As an army's main function is to walk long distances, it's always made sense to have some entertainment along.
