  • Interesting version, which is shorter than the 12" version and even the regular Single Edit, this version just cuts out and fades out at the 3:43 mark of the Single Edit (which is 4:13)

  • This version of the song appears on the album "The Flat Earth". Having never seen the other version of the video, this one "sounds" correct to me. All depends on one's first exposure. But hey, it's Thomas Dolby. Kudos.

  • You can get this video, and all of Thomas Dolby's other videos, too, with his new greatest hits CD, "The Singular Thomas Dolby". It has all the songs he released as singles, and a bonus DVD with all the videos. A great package, all for the price of a CD!!

  • ah, yes! reminds me of when i had my youth and happiness! THANK YOU so very much for posting!

  • Hey, great song and Vid by Mr. Dolby, and to the original poster, Great job encoding from the BETA! The video is actually clearer than I expected. Thanks :)

  • gr8 song, the vid a bit odd but I like his white suit =)

  • ROTFLOL @ the dummy's head and giraffe neck!!!!!!

  • July 2009 Bass Player magazine says Dolby wrote this originally for Michael Jackson to record. Jackson didn't follow-up so Dolby recorded and released. Interesting note is that Dolby recorded all the bass line on the synth. Pretty cool lines.

  • Anyone know who his female singer was? Her voice rocks the tail end of this song. And I'd love to play that synth bass line on an electric bass.

  • RCAvhstape - Adele Bertei

  • @RCAvhstape Adele Bertei, look for the "Hyperactive whistle test" here on youtube and you'll see her

  • @ladyodawna Thanks, I figured it out a few months ago. Adele was last seen singing for Anubian Lights.

  • Yes, I like this version better. Same version as I had on VHS all thosesyears ago when Now Thats What I Call Music made VSH's!

  • God and the Devil say it is good that they found a Pan, being first the name of any god that hath human recognition, Amen.

Evil be Good, Good be Good.

  • yes is a great song writer

  • I'd like to know why TD's videos have some psycoanalists like this one and "She blinded me with science", maybe all used to thk he was crazy, but he's a genius!

  • This song is so amazing... And the music video is so funny! I always start laughing when becomes a puppet and the puppeteer... Or when he starts to play the flute and his hands stay glued to the flute and to his head... Quitea crazy video but very funny. Great song, Mr. Robertson. Brilliant...

  • i liked this version bettar... xD

  • "IN A MINUTE I'LL BLOW..." - LOL

I do recall this alternative version - thanks for posting it! Been many years...

  • Thanks for the tremendous effort getting the single edit on here - The Singular Thomas Dolby at the end of March finally gets all his videos onto to DVD for the first time. Excellent!!!!

  • Absolutely amazing song! Thanks so much for posting!

Strange, but Thomas Dolby could have looked really handsome.

  • He was. ;-)

  • Cool song.

  • thomas dolby rules

flat earth and aliens ate my buick 2 of the best cd's of the 80's this guy invented

  • Wow, I never knew Alton Brown made 80s pop music.

    lol

  • Thank you for posting!! I love this song and it's classic video. Although I like both, I prefer this to the 12" version. The other version is just an attempt to stretch out this already awesome song. I do like the longer run of the ending from the 12" so I guess that part tacked on to the end of this version would be the ultimate for me.

Oh yeah, & how cool is it that they even made a video for the 12" version?

  • woah, love that bassline !

    :)

  • messages from outer space... always ahead of his time!

  • ahhhhhh...back in the day when MTV used to actually play videos....

  • I can reach into your homes, like an itch in your headphones, you can't turn it up.

  • i caught td at a show in san francisco per small club-above all, one of the experiences i've ever had in catching artist live-not just because of

thomas d. but the audience-mostly made up of ghost town-silicon valley cowboys, and nerdy gals. and the camera shots through a remote lens he wore on his head-'just too awesome!!

  • madness should of done a version of this classic, best funny song of 82 in my book

  • hyperactive when im small, hyperactive now im tall, hyperactive when the night is done

  • it's "and the night is young," dude

  • Nose trombone ROFL

  • I agree with ya!! :P

  • fuck its been like 20yrs since i've seen that clip. Thanks 4 posting!

  • crazy awsome

  • Tell me about your childhood.

  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Wave 103 all the way. Love it.

  • a-fucking men, soundtrack to my high school career right there

  • AWESOME!!

    >:-D!!!!

    I love this video.

  • Me and my old friend piss ourselves laughing back in 84 when we first saw this video

  • So did I. Ripping me apart!!

  • how could anyone prefer this shorter version? if you like the song u should always like the longer 12 inch mixes.

  • Not necessarily. I usually tend to like the first version I hear of a song, which is also why I prefer the Ugly Kid Joe version of Cat's In The Cradle. That is, unless the first version I heard was just awful.

  • @midguardz The original is best ...

  • I'm sure this is the original version since its more in tune with the radio and cd version.

  • This is the original version. I remember it quite well. Gave me the energy to study for exams when I was an undergraduate.

  • Wow! Another version...and it has the flute solo in the middle!

  • It is a Funny.

  • Thanks for bringin me back to my teen-age!!! I loved this video.

  • Bloody awesome! This is the version I prefer. Truly one of the most underrated songs of the 80's. Fucking legendary bassline.

  • Wow I didnt think there was another version and 2 beta Vcrs How did you time it perfectly setting one off another and MTV has Vids to Go never heard of it

  • Actually, I recorded two separate videos, I just combined the audio from one and the video from the other, and adjusted the frame rate of the video until it matched the audio. MTV released two Beta tapes back in '84 or '85 through Realistic to be sold exclusively by Radio Shack: Video to Go, and Live Video to Go. I won both tapes in an eBay auction last year with a lot of random Beta tapes.

  • I used to be scared of it too when i was small early age in 1984 on a show called Top of the pops in England i'm from London. It's very creepy video that i ever saw. I used to compare with Michael Jackson video Thriller. Thriller didn't scare at all.

  • this is the version i prefer, because it used to scare me as a kid. thanks!

  • Awesome! Both versions. Great memories at 91X and KROQ in the 80's!!

  • I love this vid! Thanks for having it!
