  • I have not seen this guy but he is now my second favorite after Stacey davids! Does this guy have his own page?!

  • @Nate71Taylor david freiburger,editor of hot rod

  • is it still a vortech or is that not part of this engine

  • @INDESTRCUTABLE Being a 5.3 truck motor it is a "Vortec" motor. Vortec is just the name that has been put with GM truck engines since the Gen I 5.7 Vortec debuted in '96. The Vortec name carried over to the Gen III and IV truck motors as well.

  • @madtownmadman

My 94 S10 Blazer has a Vortec so think back a little further. Its not just a name either its the special type of heads that are put on these engines that creates a "vortex" in the combustion chamber.

  • do you think if i put an ls6 intake i would have to change out the valve springs? and would that void the warranty?

  • @TEAMBIC1 What would putting an LS6 intake have to do with valve springs?

  • @denton3737 doesnt the ls6 intake hit a higher rpm range than a truck intake.

  • @TEAMBIC1 It's capable of running a higher RPM, but the cam really isn't. The cam in the truck 5.3L (LM7) is a 190/191 duration cam, and isn't really meant for over 5800-6000 RPM. The cam in the LS327 is the LS1 camshaft, which isn't much more radical, but was meant for a bigger motor @ 6000 RPM, so it can be pushed to the 6200 range, and you'll almost always change springs when you change the cam.

  • David Freiburger!, Thumbs up

  • i thought the 5.3 was a 325?

i know the old school 5.3 is a 327 but you said its a LM7 which is a 325 how is there 2 cubic inches in difference from the stock lm7 and this after market?

  • @GGGGGGGTHEBEST7 I think the 327 refers to flywheel horsepower, instead of cubic inches

  • @GGGGGGGTHEBEST7 It is a 325. Its just a marketing thing of nastalgia to call it a 327.

  • 340 hp with stock heads and just an ls1 cam and better pistons!! The LS engines are amazing engines. Imagine a set of aftermarket heads, a more aggressive cam it would be a killer engine.

  • Wow you can get one of these motors at the junk yard for under a grand throw any thing you want at it for under 3 gs and have a good motor but why buy new you can get one for that cheap hell you can buy 3 of them you blow one you swap parts and blow another

  • @copleygsxr you can purchase these engines for around $500. buy a harness removed from a truck for $150, have the harness modified for $100, have the ecm flash for $100, and motor mount adapters for under $50, so for under $1000 you can have a late model, efi, 300+ hp ls small block. and all parts are easy to find online most are on ebay.

  • @blowne85s10 I have did this swap in my s10 blazer it did cost me under a grand my point was why buy this for so much

  • @copleygsxr you just said 3 g's, i just like to inform people of how cheap this swap can be.

  • @blowne85s10 I said you could have a hell of a motor foe 3 gs try building a turbo 327 for under 3gs see what happens.

  • wats the name of the last song?

  • did u notice the boosters bleeding some fuel during the video ?? some people do not believe me that this can occur ,, 4.45 u can see it ,, to get rid of it , use a booster with a brass extension and take a v shaped file and make an air bleed in the brass end by cutting a groove into it until u hit the passage for fuel

  • Whats about FI setups?

  • freiberger, you are my hero !!

  • awsome video!!! wish you would have said something about the ingnition though.. Any tuning??

  • Buying the LS327 is a waste. spending over 3grand to get 327 hp at the motor is a joke. Put a 216/220 cam, Long tube headers and a tune on your stock 5.3 and you'll get way more power for tons cheaper. BTW. The stock 5.3 in my 03 silverado with those mods is pushing 393hp @ 6300 rpm (well above what they say the truck intake is DONE at). and 360ftlbs at 4600 at the engine. Slightly smaller duration will lower the peak tq rpm. for 1/3 the price of the ls327

  • That's with 150k miles on the original engine.

  • @joscbr Fuel Injected though. Little different

  • This motor is a waste of money. Why not just run an LS2 or LQ4 6.0?

  • David Freiberger has to be one of the coolest people alive. I've loved reading his articles in Hot Rod and Car Craft over the last 10-15 years. The man gets paid to play with cool toys. What can I say?

  • these are the best videos on youtube you guys rock

  • Again, completely brilliant video.

  • Great video!!!! Would love to see one with best cam for this motor, while leaving in stock. Also what spark plugs do you run in it now that it is carbed or does it matter. My carbed 5.3 keeps fouling my plugs?
