Well, what I want to know is how much money from selling product going to original creator of movie, game, book, music etc. and how much money going to greedy corporations? How long does copyright protection last? I read that it last for authors life plus 70 years after death. It's ridiculous! They can charge you for product they produce over 70 years ago! Even if they erned 1 bilion $ form screening the movie, they still can charge you with a crime for free watching. Greedy bastards!
Touring is exactly where musicians make their money. Its always where they have made money. Piracy increases peoples awareness of the product, which increases fan base, which increases ticket sales. Theres a reason indie developers in all fields are continuing to embrace piracy. Do your research, know the facts. Piracy helps all artists on all levels in every field.
You are talentless, that is clear, so why are you even bothered? You are so missing the point, ever heard of the radio son? What if you can remember the tune in your head, I suppose you then OWE them, just as you would had you recorded it. I totally dispute the term "Piracy". Your analogy of mp3 is also retarded, mp3@320kbs ripped properly, it's hard to tell the difference from wave, an idiot like you def could not tell the difference, the twat ripped it wrong.
@Corrupt5358 It's not your right to own someone else's art. In fact, that's why it's called copyright infringement! Gee, and everybody does it. Great point retard. Let's say someone lives with a bunch of meth-heads. They all do crystal meth so I mean, it can't be bad right?
Sounds like you need new friends, both real and virtual. About stifling the creation of quality music, I completely disagree. "Piracy" has allowed me to discover, listen, fall in love with, and SUPPORT independent musicians from across the globe whom, in the world of music run by corporate conglomerates, would never even of had the chance to be so widely heard. Without piracy music had become stagnant under the complete control of big money interests. I support piracy. I support artists.
@UncreativeUsername02 You support stealing the artist's content but at the same time you claim you support the artist. It's very easy to discover music without the use of piracy. Most bands these days provide their albums to stream online. If you like it, you purchase it. Therefore, supporting the artist. That's like helping someone up off of the ground and then immediately pushing them back down.
Your whole point about stealing the print isn't quite the same. With the print people had to pay for the ink and paper to have it printed on and stealing it makes these people lose money. With music people simply take a copy of the file which in no way reduces the supply of music. Piracy is like using a camera to take a picture of a work of art, an infinite number of people can do it and the artist loses no actual product.
The final product is not where the cost comes from. It's hiring studios, engineers, producers, decent mastering, its hiring extra instruments if you need them, and it's a whole lot of time spent not doing another job. If you have a record deal, normally you end up in debt to the record company which gets paid back from your slice of the royalies before you ever see them. If you are independent, you cop all these expenses upfront. See why not paying for the song is stealing?
Nah sorry, I can't agree with this. Money doesn't energize people, it is their passion and imagination, you wouldn't become an alcoholic just because you make no money from a whole album, yet thousands hear it and love it! Many artists can still make money from gigs and shows anyway, they should focus more on the music rather than the capitalist mentality.
@Curri3Saan Thnx 4 yr comment! I wasn't arguing that you need money to inspire people, what I'm saying is that without the chance of income from recorded music, people are going to have less time and energy to devote to making records, cuz they'll either be touring all the time or doing a 'real job' to pay their rent. And yeah people are super adaptable and true artistic vision comes through in the end, but it's still insulting to be forced by theft to have to work harder for less...no excuse
@Curri3Saan Except it's that capitalist mentality that brought that music to you. That mp3 player you listen to that music on is the result of a distinctly capitalist system; its design and manufacture was made possible from investments promised a return through sales.
In any case, as SapereAudio is saying, how can they focus on their music if they're having difficulty making ends meet since they're not earning that income from their music, however supplemental?

If you're not making music out of pure passion and love for your music, then you're doing it wrong.

WRONG it is not the same as walk out of an art gallery and take a print ...
It's more like taking a picture of the art using your camera , or using a copy machine .

@maw88ify Still doesn't make it right.
