  • I came here because of the kite runner. I still don't get how you cut someone's kite or how to control your kite when its so high up in the air. And why does Amir's hands get cut whenever he cuts someone's kite?

  • So this journalist risked being kidnapped and beheaded to report on kite flying.

  • oooooooooo so THIS is how russia got wooped! lol

  • Thums up if you are happy kites fly over Kabul again!

  • nice kites

  • why couldnt other countries do something like this? this looks mad fun, and even sounded alot of fun in the kite runner (one of the most powerful stories eer written)

  • @HavocMayhemChaos actually other contries do, USA, Brazil, and Venezula here in the Americas, Many Islands in the Carribean, and India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Japan, and Korea in Asia.

  • ha even the inocent kite is deadly over there!! lol

  • David Foster, you are doing a good job!!!! Now everybody can see How America is bringing freedom for Afghanistan people!!!!!!

  • anyone else notice the kite with a canadian flag on it?m

  • DON'T LET THE AMERICANS Find out about this. They'll just barge on in with something made out of some sort of supa-lite titanium draped with gossamer-like kevlar and some huge cooperate sponsor splashed over it (Coca-Cola, McDs). The string will be uncuttable yet will waste the opposition. Totally destroy the fun. Btw the Taliban banned kite flying coz' it was being done mostly from roof tops where it was possible and common to see into the neighbors place. A big no-no.

  • @aitch1 Err.. Too late.

  • IF EVERYONE FLEW KITES, THERE WOULD BE NO WARS...THEN IF EVERYONE PLAYED A JAZZ INSTRUMENT, YOU'D HAVE PARADISE.

  • Thumbs up if "The Kite Runner" brought you here!

One of the best books I've ever read!

  • @Bryden15McNamara I'm reading it right now.

  • @candysgirl30 Enjoy it's a moving piece of literature, extremely well written!

  • @Bryden15McNamara a book about kites.? lol

  • @wan2shuffle

You can't judge a book by it's cover or title......read it if you want to be awe stricken by the words it contains

  • @wan2shuffle naa man its a really powerfull book based in this part of Afghanistan check it out sometime

  • @Bryden15McNamara very depressing book but amazingly written

  • I an graveyard... just like in The Kite Runner

  • im guessing noone here has seen the movie "Kite Runner". the first scene of the movie shows this scene except when its full of people.

  • Reporter looks like a Joke there.

  • @TheElephant79 yeah he looks so out of place there, everyone's looking at him funny, and it seems he doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • @TheElephant79

Thats because he doesnt bloddy have a clue whats going on, ...

  • parks? in Afghanistan????......

  • They made it a crime to fly a kite? Taliban, definition of ignorance.

  • i want to buy this kite and play :D

when i was kid, i alway play this kite with my friends and family :') *sniff* wat a good memory

  • @dina15droubi Yeah i know what you mean, these days it seems acceptable for kids in My nation not adults.. I used to fly BIG stunt kytes that lift you ! amazing stuff. I agree good menories.

  • @dina15droubi i always hope that the kite would make me fly...it failed

  • aver vous un servolant en forme de nazi

  • you know when a countries bad when they ban kites..

  • @RIDETHESNAIL the taliban are not the country

  • Love this.

  • enough war!! just battle with kites americans!!

  • They do they get their supplies? They do they get they money from? Saudi Arabia?

  • '78 - Soviets invade, US Funds the Mujahideen to kick them out and oppose the Afghani government, Soviets withdraw in 1988, Civil war continues until the Mujahideen collapses the Afghani government in 1992, Mujahideen overthrown by Taliban in 1996, US Rages war on terror in 2001 following 9/11 attacks and sends troops to Afghanistan... Casualties 600,000 - 2,000,000...

  • lol Would be pretty funny if he had an British Flag kite.

  • it seems like they are livin like we did 50 years ago

  • @eksman187 The life that you have in the west is boring, what do you do? watch a film, use the computer, 90% of what people do in their spare time in the west is boring.

Kite running and kite fighting is a competition, its requires a lot of skill and training to be able to cut a competitors string, its fun when you cut someone string, that no one else has been able to cut.

  • @TheSharewired

haha your comment is so waste. u dont use a computer ? u dont want to watch good movies ? u dont want to live in a civilized, educated, modern world ?

Kite running is so exciting :D:D hahaha

have you ever been in europe or america. Jealous ... :))

  • @eksman187 I am a European, but I have also lived in KABUL for a while, i prefer kite running, than sitting at home in-front of a computer, or watching a movie.

Kite Running is fun, its social, its not something you do alone, you do it with family, neighbors, everything that is non existent in the west.

The majority of those people would not have a computer, but there are so many that do have computers, they do not want to sit at home.

don't knock it till you try it

  • @TheSharewired you realize you are at home in front of a computer

  • @eksman187 As with education that country has been through 3 decades of war, but i can tell you with 100% certainty, that if you pick anyone from that crowd, and compare his education to yours, he will come out more educated.

Whatever subject, IT, geography, science, politics, Maths you choose.

  • @TheSharewired

I see u cant stop talkin to me... we "western" people dont know what kite running is.... +1 afghanistan

  • Good for the Afghan community

  • This guy's excited about kites.

  • those kites are huge tho, i can build a smaller diamond shaped kite thats more agile.

  • that must there prototype bird shit dropper and peble buster carriers

  • The journalist guy should learn how to hold the string reel (charkha). Where was he when he was young??? Someone should teach him properly!! Nice kites though! I wish I had one

  • Were's Bin Laden, love to rap that string round his neck.

  • is Al Jazeera stationed in palestine or Lebanon, i notice alot of white or brownish commentators have an english accent of some kind.. i find that really cool but i know Al Jazeera is a neutral none biased news network. just wondering if it is the main news source for the middle east. on a sub continent level. i know i sound funny when i ask and i know taht each country in the middle east have hundreds of their own networks.

  • Taliban

Old man take multiple women as wive (even under age, see movie Osama) is OK.

Kids (or adults) flying kite having clean family fun is NOT OK.

Play music and dance (except men doing saw dance or some sort) is NOT OK.

Woman go to school (suppressing women, knowledge is power) is NOT OK.

    ...

What they are good at is terrorize the powerless, picking disrespect and destroy others cultures and values.

  • @digitsync2 yeah, but they make kebab.

  • This Dudes better be happy to be alive.

  • afghan pride i still make kites but not better as they do i wanna go back to my hometown again

  • that is the place where they're recording the kite runner! awesome movie...

  • what did the taliban have against flying a kite?

was it just fun was not allowed to be had?

  • its is banned in Pakistan too and is allowed for a short period in Lahore. cause the string of the kite is covered with glass or chemical that makes it sharp and hence allows flyers to cut others kites. But the same thread cause many motorcycle riders and infants deaths as it cuts through the throat in a single swing. So a lot of fun + a lot of morning in the kite season. I would prefer safety over fun.

  • it seems safe as long as your not running past peoples necks

  • They said it was "un-islamic."

  • thats neat

  • in kabul in greave yeard lolz

  • this video was sick

now i understand the kite fighting tournement in the kite runner , its a great book highly recremended

  • im reading it for school, and i must say its one of the best books ive read in a while

  • Few minutes ago, I finished reading it.. That's how I found this video actually....

  • yup finally finished it,we are doing it in English

now i have to write an essay :S

  • Yeah! lets go to the park WTF?? Oh you mean graveyard, I would imagine there were quite afew graveyards in afghanistan and with the Taliban.

I would imagine that the gravedigger is one of the wealthiest people in the town.

    ..

  • Another good book is "The Booksellar of Kabul."

  • thanks for such a beautiful documentary about Afghan peoples passions for Kite flying, Mr David Foster:)

We look forward to see u shooting a new documentary about kite flying /fighting in Afghanistan Kabul very soon and make more longer then this one/Afsongar

  • listen to you fkn net nerds talkin about ak-47s compared to this an that, STFU. Thank god ur talkin bullshit on the net an not fighting for my country

  • The Kite Runner....

  • i dont know why someone gave you a negative vote for that. the only reason i'[m even watching this video is because of that book.

  • yeah those pussy ass ar-15s are nothing to the ak 47 and the sks

  • I do believe the sks fires a larger round than the other two, and technically should not be compared. XD

  • It's good to see the Afghan Air Force are at full strength

  • yeah 35countries with weapons worth trillions of dollars

  • lmfao

  • LOL

  • @SteveOoOoOoOo92 you should be ashamed of your racist comment

  • @ltzul2vi7l Well i'm not so fuck off

  • @SteveOoOoOoOo92 Funniest LOL i have had in a long time

  • @SteveOoOoOoOo92

and you have been there for 10 years now, and u stil cant do shit

  • british empire , URSS , NATO soldiers ..

no one can win other there

  • france said they have win in algeria , who claimed independance

    we know the song ..

no one can control a foreign country during long term , especially with arabic culture

  • no one conquere afghanistan ever for more then 10 years.

  • @Deed1992 no they didnt u stupid idiot. learn your history before you comment. there were two anglo-afghan battles in which both times british troops were annihalated. the reason they gained 'independance' is because thats when the british troops left the country. noone has ever defeated the afghans...

  • dont forgot your religion the jews want to distroyed it whit there satanic way of the world look out for the ugly satans look out

  • please be aware im not condoning civillian casualties and to be fair the civillians get out of the area before the fighting starts but casualties are inevitable hence when they happen british troops atleast (i cant vouch for anyone else) give medical aid to them and we pay out thousands of pounds per casualtie to help them out in life.. not to mention re building there homes and fixing up fresh water systems at our governments expence so its not all bad just you have to experince rather thenread

  • your missing the point non of the western forces want afghan.. ok fair enough G bush declaired war on a revenge basis but were just training the ANA to be able to protect there own people then when there capable we will leave and america is funding the equipment etc.. the only thing that people are trying to achive from a western world is a democracy and thats only so the afghan people can actually have a say in how they live there lives instead of being forced to stupid rules and punishments

  • whos wining the war???

  • No one. Its unwinnable.

  • Traditional cultures will be getting crushed in globalization. Billions may die, so the west can continue it's luxury. Like the song says, "Buy our products or get laid to waste". (RATM)

If you think America is bad now, wait till we fall to true empire. (all republics fall to empire eventually) That's when you cooperate, die or go to jail. But we already have that system now don't we?

You cannot awaken those who pretend to sleep.

  • FACE OF GENOCIDE

` ` 2Million human victims of the USAggression ~would have produced an average of 3 children each, if they werent slaughtered.

2Million ppl slaughtered (x 3 kids) would have had 6 Million kids (1st gen)

    6,000,000 kids x their 3 kids each, becomes 18Million kids (2nd gen)

    18,000,000 kids x their 3 kids each, becomes 54Million kids (3rd gen)

    54,000,000 kids x their 3 kids each =170Million kids (4th gen)

A lot of children were meant to be, but were robbed of their life

  • OH LOOK ! Another brainwashed GWOT NAZI Trying to deny his genocide

Blame-the-victim = oldest trick in the book

Unlike the Pentagon DICTATOR, numbers dont lie

The in-depth IRAQI DEAD studies confirm IRAQ'S toll to be well above a Million. THATS IRAQ ALONE

The US figures leave out entire groups &only include ppl who had a family or other who could REPORT the death ..difficult task when dodging bombs & hit squads. US makes sure it murders entire communities leaving no survivor & witness

  • beleave me when i tell you," my thourts are with you"... but if its thats true how would YOU know about thier lives if their had know family.. just a passing coment thats all!

  • The us aggression may have killed the reporters, but they couldnt erase the vital statistics from before they invaded and began the genocides.

The number ( 3 kids) I gave is an Average. Many Iraqis have MUCH more than 3 kids. The average for every female is (was?) 4.5... which means some have more, some have less. 13 kids by one mom isnt unheard of.

    -

  • what's the problem

  • Your pathetic, but your psost do make me laugh and all warm inside so please keep the funny stuff comming! t(*.*t)

  • indeed, this is true about alot ov ways ov live.. very nice my friend

  • Dang is that a Canadian Flag kite at 1:36 ?

  • Kite flying was banned because the Afghans flew kites as a signal to let the Taliban know coalition forces were coming.

  • hahaha did you see that !! go back to 1:11 min the journalist was humiliated.

  • whahah alol!!!

  • We did this at our school the other day. Does anyone know why the Taliban banned kite flying?

  • taliban banned kite flying coz ,,,on tha time on the mounton of afghanistan was more bomb and mains ,,and on that time there was no safe aria for kite flying ..everywhere was full bomb and main

  • Because it distracted them from prayer and other relegious things

  • Oh ok, thanks

  • o.o

  • see the difference of afghanistan history and now :(

  • yes, they are even more dirty and a disgrace to their persian neigbours then they ever were

  • if u r a persian gypsy then piss on ur shia rafida mouth:D

  • wow...get in trouble for flying kites!!!! what a bunch of dushe bags!!!!!!! dick fucks! nobody better even breathe the fresh air either!!!!

  • Surely a two line kite would make the game more skillful and entertaining.

  • 1:45... I've done it?! How stupid can you get? You're not even holding the spool!

  • I certainly wouldnt want america to "liberate" my country

  • it would be better then islamic fanatics

  • not one nation. many tribes there.

  • You're so fucking stupid. It's unreal.

  • and the killing of plestinians is justice??use of force agnist every nation that some how fuks with the interst of uncle sam is justice???wake up fella the US citizens should know why 911 happened...that was hate rather then a religious motivation....stripes

  • As a recent Muslim convert who is still a Feminist I have had to relinquish some things my Black Muslim boyfriend does not like. But we plan to move to Afganistan and I must be pure for him. He says he loves me and I love him. I used to be christian but my parents were racist and I wanted to fight Republican oppression so I converted.

  • Any woman who has self respect for herself wouldn't submit to Islam.

No, you're not a feminist, you think you are.

  • Oh, a quote from BerkleyRightsNOW channel:

"Radical Feminism and Islam is the only way out! It's not "terrorism" it's JUSTICE!"

So, the death of thousands of INNOCENT people on 9/11 was justice, according to her. She's a Islamist, one of the terrorists. She even admitted she hates America and the western values.

You miss, are a slave to Islam.

  • What respect do women have in western society? They are just wanted not even loved as long as they are young with good body, sex appeal. Islam treasures women. I just wanted 2 let you know that Talibaan and their supporters like USA and Braitain are not muslim. they were employed to disgrace Islam.

  • Lets see...

    1. Women are Free: women have the right to choose for themselves. Not even their husbands ( like in Islam) are allowed to push them around.

    2. Then why are there couples who do not have a good body? That's bullshit what you're claiming.

3.Islam treasures women... As their own posessions.

Taliban are Muslims, they follow the teachings Muhammad gave them.

  • that sure is a biased opinion and you forget to mention that muslim women are severely oppressed

  • lol, "we're in the middle of a graveyard....."

they didn't show kids fingers bleeding in the Kite Runner movie.

  • "they didn't show kids fingers bleeding in the Kite Runner movie."

no they didnt show it in the movie, but i think they talked about it in the book

  • HAHHA HIS TALKING TO HIMSELF

  • reminded me of last year when i visited kabul n bought kites from these shops ... long live afghanistan n death to its enemies

  • wah wah wee wah

  • LOOOOOOOL Gudiparanbaza = Bachabaza stupids

  • why dont we support a nationalist pushtun movement, that way we can get them to take on the taliban and also the arab fanatics that pakistan is sending over to afghan.

the nationalist movement can be pro western and also do the fighting for us ?

  • Pashtoons owe allegiance to no one.

Nevertheless it is a viable solution - they are the majority in Afghanistan and one of the main reasons they are reluctant to form close ties with the government is that they were profiled and alienated since 2001.

Win them and you win Afghanistan.

  • taliban is a pushtun nationalist movement...who is in taliban...99.9% pashtun....0.1% foreigners...we should support taliban so they fuck everyone...and we can all go back and live in the stone age...who needs technology? medicines? education? justice? freedom?..etc...

  • Ahaha the dudes runnin around and I bet all of em wanna kill him. At least someone should shut him the fuck up.

  • Come to Iraq legal or illegal and weigh in!

  • Come weigh in on "Iraq legal or illegal" on the pinky show! republicans fuck off!

  • yea i agree hahahahaha and it sound so funny when u said it xD

  • kite runner!!!111111 the kid got raped but i liked him anyway!!!!!!

    kite running is interesting !

  • ahasldf. Kite Runner is a fuckin' depressing book. at least so far

  • yah totally. i just finished it a few seconds ago.

  • Sorry about the length, but lastly:

Check out a Galloway on The Hour, he explains well that it's all a matter of puppet regimes.

I hate the f***ing Taliban, but we don't do any good being there with our own interests. All we do is radicalize the disenfranchised.

  • Lol. Won without even knowing it. Nice.

  • This reminds me of "The Kite Runner"..That is a beautiful story in it's special tragic way. I've never been, but as a Canadian whose country, to my shame, has invaded the land and contributed more to a problem than a solution, I wish for peace in Afghanistan. Inshallah.

I really want to try kite fighting sometime.

  • You can fly my kite baby

  • yes it was a good book and movie

  • I'm not trying to be argumementative, but it seems to me that if they couldn't do something as simple and innocent as fly a kite before, and now they can with the taliban gone or minimized, then at least something is going at least partially right.

  • I see.

I'll hold you to that--not trying to be argumentative on this video. It gets me anxious but I'll try to be clear.

They managed to fly kites before the Taliban ever came to be, and that was thanks to America's funding of those bastards to begin with. Believe me, the West is anything but consistent in it's historical position onm Afghanistan.

That's also for those who can afford kites..and the major source of income right now is poppy growth which has been used to fund the insurgency.

  • Fair enough..... and sadly all too true. Many shady and 'right thinking' deals have amounted to nothing but suffering and dismay for the innocent folks in many countries.

Even if our countries best intentions were implimented for thee good of all peoples we seem to have a history of backing the wrong horse.

Afgahnistan is the forgotten war. It's never mentioned here in the US.

    I'll check out Galloway. Thanks.

  • In fact more NATO troops are dying in Afghanistan so far than in Iraq.

Make no mistake--they aren't there to bring "freedom". The U.S. had deals with the Taliban about constructing a gas pipeline long before they went rogue.

The poor in Afghanistan are in fact getting poorer.

That and things aren't what they seem to be when you fight an insurgency.

Britain got pushed out, so did the Soviets, and it won't be any different for us if current trends continue.

  • Awesome, I love it. Peace. :-)
