Because of touching or perhaps puncturing the childs eardrum. Ever had your eardrum touched? It can be very painful and as the child is expressing pain, and the stick is being plunged into the canal so deep, the probability that the drum is being touched is very high. When the drum is touched, ones tends to jerk the head, increasing the chances of gouging the drum. Elaborate enough for you?
