Hyper Shadow was first Shadow's level 1 transformation in 2001. Sega then changed is in about 2003 to Super for level 1 form and Hyper for level 2 form. Reason because in science super speed is 700 mph and hyper speed is 1000 mph. Because hyper is so much faster the super, it's unfair for Sonic to have a slower meaning name then Shadow and Knukles. So Hyper Shadow and Hyper Knukles is their level 2 form now. Super Shadow and Super Knukles is their level 1. They have to be the same level as Sonic

I wish people would stop ragging on Sonic because of how much it borrowed from Dragon Ball Z. Seriously, TONS of shows, games, movies, and other media have been inspired by Dragon Ball. It was an insanely popular series which you can find elements of in countless creations since it was made.

As for the fight itself, I always enjoyed the Sonic/Shadow dynamic. Admittedly because it does remind me of Goku/Vegita, but also because they have good chemistry, and their personalities clash well.

Unfortunately, Hyper Sonic only ever appeared when Sonic found 7 Chaos emeralds in Sonic 3 and then 7 more in Sonic and Knuckles when playing the two together (Sonic 3 and Knuckles). Since there are technically only 7 Chaos emeralds in the world though, you can see why it wouldn't make sense for Hyper Sonic to exist outside of those games, much less Hyper Shadow.
