Im in my 40's and i stil watch this occasionally. Although im officially only a yellow belt karate, and yellow band thai boxer, there are not many people who have beaten me up, over the years.

I know Karate has its origins in other Martial Arts but it's still from Japan. I'm not going to watch a movie called Japan that's really about China because one is descendant of the other.

Besides, Kung Fu is a generic term that can label any martial art or physical skill from anywhere. Just because Karate was developed in Japan, does not change the fact that it is Kung Fu.
In fact, you can't say it is from Japan. You have to make reference to both China and Japan. The form in Okinawan Karate has a section exactly the same as White Crane Fist.
Honestly, all these labels don't really matter. The Chinese from Fujian Province that moved to Japan to teach their forms of "Kung Fu" and their descendants are all probably labeled as "Japanese" now after hundreds of years. Korean immigrants into China for 500 years later would be called Chinese. That's why I don't find the need to differentiate these people so much because they're really just the same as we are a single human race.
damn this is awesome! I wish THIS was the new movie! The new one with Chan and Smith is really a slap in the face to this great film! Plus Jaden is learning Kung Fu, not Karate....

I saw him in couple of other movies and I didnt think he did a good job. It seems like he was only in them because he's Will Smiths son. Honestly, if they called it like Kung Fu Kid, i would be more OK with it, because even though it would be in the same vain as Karate Kid, it wouldnt be a "remake", it would keep the real Karate Kids legacy in tact. dude dont bring race into it, it has nothing to do with the kids color, it's the simple fact you dont remake a classic like Karate Kid. It would be like remaking Rocky without Stallone, or remaking the first Terminator without Arnold. It's just not right.
This was a truely excellent movie, the wisedom from the wise man pushed meaning os the movie story all the way throughout. The new kung fu kid with jackie will never match the magic, warmth and power of this origional.
