This version actually stayed truer to the original stage version of Annie. But, I guess a lot of people like the '82 one better just because it was the original, "classic" one. I like both the '82 one and this one, though. I do think Aileen Quinn fit the character of Annie better than this girl, but the girl in this one is still a great actress and has a great voice.
For some reason I just always felt this version of the movie Annie was a bit more heart felt then the previous one. She was always kinda looking out for herself in the first one and the second one she protects the other girls. I don't know, maybe it's just me but I LOVE this song. I love singing it just around places
I liked the Daddy Warbucks in the 1982 version--he fit the character better--but I like Annie's voice better in this one. But it's still a sweet version. The only thing I had a huge problem with was the casting for Grace--not because of her color, but because a biracial romance would not have happened at that time, especially with someone as prominent as Daddy Warbucks. I realize they probably cast her so no one could claim they were being racist, but still.
I liked the Daddy Warbucks in the 1982 version--he fit the character better--but I like Annie's voice better in this one. So if it had the choreography from the 1982 and Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, it'd be perfect. But it's still a sweet version. @MrQwerty626 It's funny..their casting for Grace is the main reaosn I LOVE this version! XD I LOVE mixed couples and I found it ABSOLUTLY wonderful that they totally didn't think about color for the movie. Kinda like R&H's Cinderella with Brandy. I wish they did that kind of thing in movies now a days :(
i have a theatre production of annie...im warbucks and i just love this song!!!!!!i also need to sing his solo;'Something was missing' and i also need to sing;'N.Y.C'....they are all wonderfull!
The first version was more based on the comic strip. And set to be an Orphanage back in the 30's.During the depression orphanages were often over filled with kids because people had children they couldn't raise and dropped them at orphanages. The people who ran them where often not very nice to the kids and donations and supplies often didn't reach the children because those ran the orphanages would pocket the money.A lot the kids learned to fight for survival and depend on themselves.

@savingjane18 Evidentally you didn't watch the original version very closely. The first scene she goes and comforts Molly when she has a bad dream. The orginal version destroys this one.
I love this annie. It has my favorite actress Kristen Chenoweth in it (shes the mean lady not mrs hannigan but her brothers wife/fianc'e) and this Annie is absolutely adorable not to mention her hair is 10 times better than the original Annie's lol but thats besides the point I love this movie but I still love the original as well. :)
OMG, Kristen is my inspiration and I'm a guy! She's my favorite Broadway star! I wanna be a Broadway star too! Though, she's also my favorite actress as well. Kristen is just amazing! I like her in this movie ha ha.
I got Miss Hannigan for my play earlier today on broadway, I had to be all mean and stuff and sing little girls with a disgusted face, it irritated me a lot i love smiling!!!!!!
Heh, I have to say I prefer the older movie much more. The other girl was much much more loveable and (sorry for those of you that like this one...) a better singer with a more convincing personality.

I LOOOOVE THIS SONG!! i love this annie! i sort of look exactly like her. or, i did, when i was her age, curly red hair, we looked like EXACTLY alike!
This brings back memories,at my school we have just had our last performance of annie i was a orphan but we had such a amazing cast every 1 was really good including the girl who played annie ! =[ wish we could perform it all again lol
I own both versions. Honestly, I have to say that the Garber version is better. I think the Finney version gets campy. You may be interested in knowing that the Finney version is on the list of the "worst films ever made!"
thx! Im not that good but thanx. I actually got callbacks for ms.hannigan but since Im a 6th grader they gave it to the 8th grader but the 8th grader is amazing! Im happy though
i love this song so much, it reminds me of when i was little. i would watch this movie over and over again and my dad would pretend to be daddy warbucks and danced with me to this song like everyday.
This is my favorite part of the movie! My school is doing this this musical tonight and they are almost as good as Mr. Warbucks and Annie. Annie has the most amazing voice I've ever heard!
is this really the 1999 version it looks like the other annie

The only reason the 1982 version was ACCEPTABLE was because it wasn't lacking in its dark and depressing orphanage theme like the 1999 version is.
But other than that the children's voices were BELOW AVERAGE and the plot moved rather slowly. And that is why the original is not as good.

i love this song so much, it reminds me of when i was little. i would watch this movie over and over again and my dad would pretend to be daddy warbucks and danced with me to this song like everyday.
thinking about it almost makes me cry

This is my favorite part of the movie! My school is doing this this musical tonight and they are almost as good as Mr. Warbucks and Annie. Annie has the most amazing voice I've ever heard!
