I find it hilarious that the Warthog pilots -love- this scene (along with AC-130 crews), but the Air Force itself as a whole can't stand it. Mostly because the USAF -hates- the A-10.
Michael bay obviously has a hard-on for warfare related stuff but it would be an embarrassment to to our servicemen if he made a movie about our military so he sticks to making crappy transformers movies and cramming in as much military hardware as possible.
They're still getting phased out though, they got the upgrade because they had to. Until the F-16 has the capability, IE. The numbers and GOV ability to fund said numbers the A-10 will still be there, but the F-16 will take over the A-10's slot in a bout 7-10 years, in 7-10 years, the A-10 will go the way of the dodo...very sad, I think the F-16 is a great plane, but nothing can handle air to ground like the thunderbolt. The only way the A-10 will hold out is if we go full bore into Afghanistan.
Well, I don't know what "sandy" is, but washington and brass says that The F-16 can do everything the A-10 can, with more reliability and for less money, I just think the F-16 should stay where it is, in the clouds with the birds.
"Sandy" used to be the nickname for the A-1 skyraider--A single engine prop plane; it had 4 20mm cannon & a HUGE weapons loadout with all kinds of ordinance & lots of fuel for LONG loiter time. First flew in Korea & then used in Vietnam to for ground attack AND for providing support for CSAR.
And the F-16s did try to replace the a-10 in serbia, and failed miserably. It can't stay up long enough, carry enough, take ANY damage, and took too long to turn for extra strafing.
The main issue is that we aren't fighting any armor. A-10's are tank busters. No tanks no A-10's. You can not believe me all you want...but they're getting phased out of the middle eastern theater.
The A-10 is projected to stay in service till 2028 at least.

Also with it's extended loiter time when compared to other jets, it can still provide support when other jets are running low on fuel
It's the role that designates its importance throughout a campaign. An importance which at this time is completely vacant. And it's other roles are being covered by choppers. High altitude bombers can also cover its job as well as fighter aircraft. Washington is not going to spend time, money and manpower to deploy A-10's to a region that is already employing attack helicopters, which are better suited for the job, in its place specifically for covering troops on the ground.

OMG when they show the AC-130 xD. The music+sight of the big plane+the nice heavy noise that 4 propellers make added to the scene so nice. That plane can destroy entire brigades like nothing ever happened. Great job with the scene, the A-10s are something else too.
the theme behind the air strike bit is awesomely good... the scene is brilliant 2, i love the marines as well :-) full marks, Spielberg! and whoever filmed this, nice one too, its nice focus
the great thing about the first transformers, in my opinion, is the human interaction/action scenes. this part in particular is one of the best scenes that show this. the part before this where they call the customer service dude while fighting was funny.

THERE WE GO! Thats NOT a predator its the recon variant the "Global Hawk". Finally, a confirmation on what it is lol. The predator uses a propeller at the back and the tail-fins are pointed down at a 45 degree angle. The Global Hawk has its tail-fins pointed UP at a 45 degree angle, and it uses a jet engine for propulsion, as seen here.
ant1fa5. the a-10's were sent in first because they were able to fly faster and can hug the ground. not to mention they have those huge GAU-8 cannons and maverick missiles. the ac 130 gunship probably didn't arrive till after the A-10 strafing mission whereas the a-10's were probably closer to the team and they needed the air support immediately so they were sent in first with the ac 130 gunship as support.

the U.S really does have that kind of weaponry though. with the exception of the laser thing at the end of the movie. we might even have that but of course it would be top secret. but everything else we have and use that it shows in the movie. we use a-10 regularly in irag and afghanistan and f-22's in air to air situations. its not really propaganda if the people of the nation know that they have that kind of fire power. its just reinforcing what we already know.
Think of it as a commercial. USA has the firepower and the technology to best most of the abilities the globe can offer.

the great thing about the first transformers, in my opinion, is the human interaction/action scenes. this part in particular is one of the best scenes that show this. the part before this where they call the customer service dude while fighting was funny.

THERE WE GO! Thats NOT a predator its the recon variant the "Global Hawk". Finally, a confirmation on what it is lol. The predator uses a propeller at the back and the tail-fins are pointed down at a 45 degree angle. The Global Hawk has its tail-fins pointed UP at a 45 degree angle, and it uses a jet engine for propulsion, as seen here.

ant1fa5. the a-10's were sent in first because they were able to fly faster and can hug the ground. not to mention they have those huge GAU-8 cannons and maverick missiles. the ac 130 gunship probably didn't arrive till after the A-10 strafing mission whereas the a-10's were probably closer to the team and they needed the air support immediately so they were sent in first with the ac 130 gunship as support.

the U.S really does have that kind of weaponry though. with the exception of the laser thing at the end of the movie. we might even have that but of course it would be top secret. but everything else we have and use that it shows in the movie. we use a-10 regularly in irag and afghanistan and f-22's in air to air situations. its not really propaganda if the people of the nation know that they have that kind of fire power. its just reinforcing what we already know.

Think of it as a commercial. USA has the firepower and the technology to best most of the abilities the globe can offer.
Also think of it on this standpoint, how else to engrave American fire-power than in the minds of ordinary people? Its like stopping rebellions before they happen!
On a lighter and more truer note I think the C-130 and A-10's are bloody awesome and cool! I would rather not be on the receiving end... God I love technology.
