Thank you for the nice comment! Interstate 70, and then Highway 24 to Leadville, are both paved and well maintained. However, both can be steep and slippery in sections - especially in bad winter weather. A non-mountain person will have no trouble getting there unless there's a huge blizzard - such blizzards only occur a few times each winter.
I drove through here recently, we took 82 from Aspen to Hwy 24, stopped at that Continental Divide scenic rest stop, that is about 12,000 feet there. We looked around Leadville and then took 24 up to I-70 back towards Denver. Leadville is neat to drive through, I have been there a few times but I could never live there, way too small and it is isolated in the winter.

As I write you, on September 6th, nightime temperatures in Leadville are already below freezing! By the time you arrive, in early October, some snow will already have fallen (but the road will be clear) and it will be cold enough to require the wearing of a jacket each day. Despite the cold there will still be plenty of sunshine unless a storm rolls through - but, even then, the skies will quickly clear. I hope this helps you!
I have a general idea of how cold it gets bc I went on vacation to winter park Christmas of '05. But he says he can handle it. Although it's just two weeks away and he hasn't bought any winter clothes. I don't know if he knows but yalls July is like our January, at night anyway. But he did just buy a new rv that came winterized. So as far as a place to stay he's prepared. He has a spot already reserved at an rv park for 18 months.
I don't remember the Mexican food in Leadville, specifically, but Colorado generally has very good Mexican food just about anywhere you go so Leadville should be okay!
Great video, it's nice to be able to get a glimpse of what it looks like. My dad is being transferred there for his job the 15th of this month. And he thinks it gets cold down here in south Texas.
still looks great. I was born here in 71 and left in 81 due to the mine closing... I do miss it, I have a lot of fine childhood memories of Leadville, the main memory is tons of snow.
What is the drive like from I-70 to Leadville on 24? Is it paved and easy driving for non-mountain folks?
Great video! I'm very intrigued by "America's highest city"! :-)

Great! It sounds like he knows what he's doing and is prepared. But, you're correct, Leadville can get pretty cold at night - even in July!

I forgot to ask. Do they have good Mexican food up there?

Although Leadville is a great place it's also one of the coldest spots in Colorado each winter - make sure your dad is prepared!!
