  • Look at "Crazy Cars II" for the ATARI ST. That one was running perfectly smooth and also looked better than this game. :-)

  • This is a superb video. It shows the true inferiority of the ST and the power of Amiga.

    Amen.

  • LOL anyone in the comments who says PC is best wants to realise that a PC would have cost like 2 grand at the time, and would have struggled to make more than a beep without an aftermarket card such as an adlib or original soundblaster.

  • @jedw I second that, before golden times for PC, PC users had envy for amiga users with its sound abilities and in some cases graphics as well. PC won because IBM allow to copy their comuputer by other manufacturers (that's why PC is called also IBM clone). If IBM would not do that move, there is high propability that computer marketshare could be dominated by some other architecture than PC like MAC for e.g.

  • Great sounds and music were the power of Amigas Lotus 2. The game was better on Amiga but I would give a lot to have my own Atari ST with This Lotus game. I had C64 and thore computers were unreachable for me :). BTW this game sounds like Lotus 3 on PC with PC speaker. As I remember PC Lotus 3 version even with Sound Blaster was much worse than Lotus 2 on Amiga with its great sounds and music.

  • this game was awesome i used to love it

  • I got bullied for having an Atari st at school when everyone else had an Amiga. I mean for fuck sake they are not that different when you look now but the slightest little differentiation was like a huge thing back then. It was the same when it was the SNES vs the Megadrive. Not much has changed I bet, kids are prob still fighting over the Xbox and PS3. The Xbox being the Atari ST, Hehe. Hence to say I have an Xbox. I always go for the underdog.

  • What amaze me is that the piece of shit port Outrun have a lot more frames

For the Atari ST... no that in doest amaze me because lotus 2 is a master piece

made for the Amiga not ST in outruns case was the reversed.

  • Atari St was not best computer that time but it had its own glory

  • MY EAAAARS. THEY' R BLEEEEEDIIIING!

  • @Lordani1 that's to prove how HORRIBLE the Atari ST SFX are

  • @PacGuy765 but that is not sfx soundisjust the blitter

  • fuck amiga and fuck atari! i'm always belive in the power of PC dos machine! and i was right! indeed everyone now use pc!!!!!!!

  • Interesting video, I still play the Lotus games on my Amiga 1200 and also on my 2meg Atari STE. My Atari runs this game alot better thaqn this video. Scrolling is much smoother and the other cars move smoother as well. So this video has confused me a little. Still love both my Amiga and atari, my xbox360 just gathers dust. State of the art graphics, but no soul or playablity. Long live rero gaming. Also looking forward to the release of the new Amiga x1000 this year!!

  • >My Atari runs this game alot better thaqn this video. Scrolling is much smoother and the other cars move smoother as well. So this video has confused me a little.

That's because you're running it on an STe, rather than a plain ST.

  • Heh, good vid! I think that Amiga engine sounds like a vacuum cleaner and this chip one on the ST is better. Scrolling - yes, but ST has limited hardware, so they made great deal when converting this to ST. And music+sounds.. at least in the intro there could have been a digital soundtrack :(

  • Nice video, though you must be a Amiga Fanboy. Both systems were good in there own way like Genesis VS SNES which I own both, actually I own a Sega Nomad and a SNES and I have the third lotus for the sega which was bad compared to the Atari ST version but still fun. Long live Atari

  • Very good for an Atari ST, clearly an excellently written engine

Amiga is obviously far better a machine but i loved my ST days

  • Didn't the Atari ST have sound sample capability? Why did they make do with square-waves? Was the game conversion a rush job?

  • The ST has a PSG only capable of producing square waves without PWM (same PSG as in the Sinclair spectrum 128).

  • Ah, I understand. Thanks!

  • @billamu The original ST *could* play samples, but AFAIK required the CPU to feed it each bit data into the sound register at the appropriate time, which would obviously have required precise timing and been processor-intensive on arcade games. The Amiga sound chip used DMA to play back sample data without constant prodding.

  • Why would anybody buy and Atari? This is a horrible piece of example of how bad the ST was...

  • your not wrong there, my friends;) I hate the Atari ST! That's why I never use it anymore!

  • I LOVE my STe, even though it is WAAAAAAY inferior to my Amigas (got five)

  • @PacGuy765 have a wank

  • @Grassbrook

Compared to what? I can't think of a single other game on the Amiga as fast and smooth as Lotus II (Lotus III runs slower than II) This ST version is about the same as Batman the Movie levels 2 and 4 on Amiga which before Lotus II were the benchmark. As for Magnetic Fields after Lotus III they did kid Chaos for stock A500 which was technically as good as Sonic 2 on Megadrive!

  • @Grassbrook The ST was excellent was a fair bit cheaper but only a little tiny bit less powerful in some ways than the amiga (but far better in others)

My Falcon on the other hand smokes any amiga.

  • @mynameisleeyesitis I remember hearing about the Falcon at the time and thinking it sounded nice... but even then I knew it was going to flop because (a) it was released way too late- the Atari ST market had already declined past the point of no-return, eclipsed by the Amiga which was in turn being eclipsed by the ever-cheaper PC and (b) Atari couldn't market their way out of a paper bag.

Hope they supplied a decent OS with it, from what I remember the original TOS was... basic.

  • @NotATube The Atari was not eclipsed by Amiga whatsoever, more that both were eclipsed at the same time along with Acorn which hung on a couple years longer in the computer market by the WintelBM systems. Shame, as all 3 manufacturers were pumping out awesome systems at the time.

Also, Atari actually NEVER went bankrupt. I know the result was the same but they never went bankrupt, but went into a reverse merger with JTS and then prompty got chopped up and sold. This was actually illegal.

  • @bobbystar101 The ST was more popular early on due to its affordability but definitely was overtaken as the price difference was closed. I bought an ST in 1991, and it had already lost ground to the Amiga by then.

As for "awesome systems"... well, the Amiga 1200 was a nice machine, but not revolutionary or far ahead of the PC as the original Amiga once was. Too little, too late.

BTW, I was referring to C= having gone bankrupt, not Atari, though the latter effectively through in the towel.

  • @Grassbrook Because they were cheaper; quite a lot cheaper in the early days, less so by the early-90s.

  • @Grassbrook that is why atari st was in use long after the amiga died out lol

  • @Grassbrook muppet

  • @Grassbrook Because it KICKS THE NES ITS OVERRATED ASS OUT OF EUROPE!!!

Altrough a Commodore fan, the Atari ST is also awesome and we should be bashing the NES instead

as it undeservedly takes all the praise nowadays compared what the C64,ZX Spectrum, Atari ST & Amiga all have done ,

Really who would buy a 300 euro 8 bit console with outdated games going over 50 euros when you could

    buy a Atari ST for 500 € ?

  • sounds are crap

PC and amiga sounds are better

  • PC's were a pile uf shit for atleast 10 years after the first Amiga was launched haha what a twat.

The STe had sample playback, the standard ST didn't. I think you should go check out some 1985-90 PC games with their piece of crap pc beeper sound and CGA/EGA graphics making them look like C64 games.

    Haha what a classic post.

Lotus II is an awesome game to play on Archimedes/Amiga OR ST. Sounds and plays best on the Amiga but then Magnetic Fields were heavily invested in coding the Amiga...

  • @kunoichi325

    PC?!!?!?!?

What were YOU smoking back then?

    I want some!!

  • That is amazing! omg, wot awesome memories I have of playing this.

  • atari SUCKS

    AMIGA 4 Life

  • YA, IT DOES SUCK! AMIGA 4 LIFE!

  • @PacGuy765 OOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOO IM ABOUT TO SPUNK OVER AN OBSOLETE COMPUTER BY A SHITTY COMPANY THAT NEVER EVEN MADE A COMPUTER THAT COULD GO SO FAR AS TO PLAY MP3 FILES.

  • @mynameisleeyesitis Well, if you want to really argue the point, I'm sure that a 68040-based A4000 might have managed it. Early-90s PCs had only just enough power to manage it.

Anyway, who cares? They went bankrupt over 15 years ago. You may as well criticise the East Indies Company for not using jet aircraft due to them not having been invented when they were in existence. :-P

  • @PacGuy765 haahahaaa dumbshit

  • the music on this game was so bad, yet so good

  • This looks like an excellent racing game.

  • Did it look so long ago? Wow...

  • terrible sound! amiga's verison is a much better.

  • AWESOME, this was my favorite game on my Atari ST EVER!!!!!!! the memories! Still remember the foggy level was pea soup LOL

  • 3/5

  • I had an ST the sound chip always let it down :(

  • easily one of the best games on the ST evarrrr! :) I can remember many happy hours spent playing this, including a 4 player 2 miachine link up! good days!!
