What high-tech uses does this laser have? I don't see the point in getting a laser just for lighting things on fire. I mean, a magnifying glass on a sunny day does the same thing as a 2W laser.

I think you mean another type of rating, such as watt, kilowatt, or megawatt, but just for fun, I'll put that into perspective. That laser would be 1 billion times more powerful than the Arctic Spider 3, and cost 27 dollars per second to run, assuming that you pay 10 cents per killowatthour.

@pkrska Voltage is what you need to worry about when working with a laser. A laser like this usually runs off of about 4 volts. However, you would need more voltage supply for stuff like cooling fans and such, but the diode really only needs ~4volts. After you have enough voltage, then you need to worry about what really matters: Impedance. Lasers in the higher ranges usually require Amperage that is pretty close to the Wattage that they output.

@vinigretzky97 depends. I've seen a 10KW pulse laser. It fires a single split second "jolt" that is capable of instantly starting fires. After that,. it goes though a 15 second cool down/recharge cycle. The highest constant laser that I've seen is a 1KW.
