they gave up because they were over run i mean the ss units eventually gave up during the war as well. The Japanese are pretty much the only soldiers who consistently would die instead of being captured its part of war fare
Mark Clark was a horrible general, that's why. You get a taste of the arrogance of the man in this episode, but it hardly conveys it properly. I don't know what Marshall saw in Clark, thank God he was put in command of a secondary front.
No one actually wanted to join the Germans from the Allied side. The Germans though really belived that the Allies would invade Russia infact the allies drew up plans to do it, wiki operation unthinkable. They belived though that the losses would be staggering and mostly fought with American industry since by 1945 the Brittish had little men and the Germans just had no industrial might and had lost millions to the russians already
Interesting. I dont think the allies would have managed to beat Russia though. The Soviet Union had 6 million men in europe at the end of the war, the allies much less.
Besides, Stalin wouldn't mind sacrifice a few more million lives to win. The allies did not have that kind of gut, and would not have been willing to do it. Don't think they would have manged if they tried either. The Russians were bloody hardasses.
This is an outstanding documentary of 1942. Thanks for posting.

Interesting that some allied men wanted to join the Germans and fight Russia.
If these men had been born in central or eastern Europe the odds are high that they actually would have done this.

You misunderstood what he was saying, that was a story about a german man wanting to join the allies and fight russia, not the other way around.

Really? Okay... But a little weird he said: "We" can never beat the germans. But maybe he was refering to the incident in third person.

It does seem like a tragedy, though, that beautiful architecture centuries old should be lost forever.
