Hi Michael. I've been working so hard recently that I haven't had time to watch videos, which is a shame, especially when I miss what's happening with my favourite YouTubers. Well done for climbing the tower. I am off this week, and time permitting, I'd like to try to climb the Boston Stump again, back in my hometown. If you don't know of it, do a quick google, and you'll see it's no small undertaking. It has 365 steps to the top! :-)
Quite amusing story and point well made! After over 20 years of exercise in the military, I am infrequently seized by the urge to exercise or go running, but I just lay down and the feeling soon passes.
"....gymnasiums and exercise machines, have you ever seen those things?" What makes this video more amusing, after you said that, is the list of suggested videos on the right of my screen entitled "How to use Gym Exercise Machines". I'm pretty sure speech recognition software is used to pick out key words for the suggested videos.
I wonder if that's the same tower mentioned in Jeffrey Archer's book "Paths of Glory"? In it, it's claimed George Mallory climbed up the outside of it to impress the woman he'd later marry. He ended up having to flee Italy because the police were looking for him due to the stunt... :-)
@Widgetas haha, same, I was laughing at the related videos, and same again...I also am very curious as to the contents of the book, as I sit here sweat soaked after my latest workout..
You must have been in the south, I heard you guys got to 30ºC, which for the British is nearly deadly lol. Up north it was a lovely sunny 26ºC yesterday, which was a small consolation to the poor depressed brits.
When you said gymanasiums I instantly found myself thinking "It's gymnasia dammit!". I immeadiately checked to find that both are, in fact, correct. No point to this comment other than to give you an insight into the pedantry of at least one of your subscribers.
All exams passed and now outdoor pool has never been so busy. Glad you had a good time in Italy. I loved the title followed by 'I have this book' - pretty much my level of exercise these days. Keep well.
Couldn't one keep fit just by taking energetic walks, a little bit of jogging, climbing towers :) and mountains, well, nearby hills when on vacation, and making exercise at home every morning? I've been to fitness centres but it was depressing to me. Everything is so artificial!
I'm so useless at getting myself to do any exercise that I kill two birds with one stone by getting around on foot or on my push bike. I've done it for the past five years, since I first started my degree in Manchester. I never really thought it was very much exercise, just enough to keep me ticking over, and give the free time to do other things. But I had an accident recently (I'm fine) and they checked my resting heart rate in hospital, which was 51 bpm! So it seems to have paid off!
@tenneral Thank you, I won't get one though! :) I'm starting work towards a PhD at the end of this month. I look forward to your next video, and I hope you have a good summer yourself.
@johncrwarner (a) Citta di Castello. (b) Osmosis it must be: early Icelanders were said to eat books to absorb their knowledge, but that may be a myth. Perhaps I'll try a few pages for breakfast!
@tenneral best of luck - they used to say there was more nutrients in the box than in the corn flakes so it probably won't do you any harm and might increase your roughage LOL
Hi Tenneral. I've been working recently for an events company, for corporate parties, birthday parties, stuff like that. We have to lug these huge inflatables and mechanical bulls and stuff around, in the scorching heat, set them up, stand around for 5-6 hours, then take them down, pack them back in the van and set out back to Preston. Very hard work, I can tell you. I don't get much sun usually, I'm so lazy I tend to sleep in, so I've burnt my neck. Still, I'm of a dark complexion. :)
Oh I know what you mean!! I've been out at robin hood bay looking at some crabs and snails and seaweed. Roasting conditions and they had ran out of icecreams!!
I do exercise but I tend to do things like swimming and cycling and walking to work rather than hours at the gym. I hate those "ghastly machines" too!
@geyser V. kind: I do seem to get plenty of invitations these days. I think they just want some old geezer who can fill in the conversational gaps with tales of the old days - i.e. anything before about 1965!
Great story, so well told.

I have to say I'm rather amused by the 'similar' videos on the right hand side. That's tags for you.
Well done on the climb.
Personally I'm having a rest at the moment - cycled from Bristol to Exmouth on Saturday night. I still hurt/burn in various places.
I'd really quite like to know what's in that book.

That's ironic about the fitness book.
Is that ironic? I don't use the term loosely, I even try to avoid using it.
It's ironic, yeah.

I respect your opinion, but we don't really have the time for random walks up towers. We exercise to keep fit to maintain our busy lifestyles.

Keeping fit without exercise doesn't make a heap ton of sense. I imagine you can be thin, but you wouldn't manage to grow or maintain much mussel.

@Lpoolboy Well, as you guess, I just go bright purple with too much sun. So in Italy it's panama hat and lashings of Boots sunscreen for me.

Brilliant video. I would have loved going to Italy. Sadly my income doesn't allow for it.
As a kid I climbed stairs like that in Trondheim, Norway; The Nidaros-domen.
Looking out caused a life long vertigo.
