  • Now wouldn't that be just the perfect startup sound for a computer?? ;-)

  • @MrJohann64 Do you know, I have never considered that before but Im liking your style of thinking, that would sound great... ha ha :-))

  • Never seen a Blue Post Box with an engine in it and a cement mixer attached to it....before!!!

  • @itsmefergal LOL :-)

  • lol wow

  • Great old engine! Turning it over a little bit not only gets the oil circulated, but it probably also preheats the combustion chamber. Which is probably why it started so quickly.

  • Thanks, this mixer has always been a good starter...

  • @MrMoterKid how does it preheat the comb. chamber?

  • @minedronebiznis Diesels ignite their fuel with compressed air, yeah? So if they are turning over, they are building up heat by compressing air in the cylinder.

  • @minedronebiznis it heats / pre heats the combustion chamber purley by compression, some more modern diesels have a glow plug for preheat, but i'm sure this early model relies purley on good old compression to generate enough heat to do the job

  • @david197407 yep thats how it works and even the modern listers dont have glow plugs to this day just good combustion chamber design

  • Paul what a great old machine

You hang on to that machine

they don't build them like that anymore

  • Thanks Wayne, yes this is an old beauty, it will certainly out last me... ha ha. Thanks for the nice comments.

  • I got an AA1 witch is a crap starter, I could take it to the saahra and it would still give me trouble to start!!!

  • What do you reckon is the problem? injector maybe?

  • no, no it is either out of timming or dodgy fuel pump, have you got spare parts to sell? there is a guy who fixes them in Mexborought near Doncaster but he is very expensive, I was there yesterday, spent £70 to get my AD1 working and got back home with it not working, now they say it needs the fuel pump to be reconditioned witch will cost me a further £48 witch I am doing next month, my wife goes mental when I spend that much on these engines!!! Regards... Mitch

  • No got no spares at all, I have never messed or taken these apart, never needed too. Yes my missus thinks Im barking mad also... ha ha keeps telling me to sell these but no way...

Good luck with the work in progress... what do wives know anyway? ha ha... :-)

  • I am moving overseas in about 2 months time, I am from Brazil and the bleeding wife is a Mexican with swine flu, I've got to take them all with me to Mexico, it's going to cost me nearly £2500 I also got some diesel car engines too about 6, and I am praing to GOD to be lucky enough to get them in the country as they are 2nd hand and I got no invoice for them, just the EBAY invoice, I hope I won't lose them to Mexican costumes!!! Good Luck mate...

  • i bet that mixer help build alot of stuff ,thanks for sharing

  • Yes I bet, if only it could talk.... ha ha. Glad you enjoyed watching it. :-))

  • Very interesting, i have never seen a mixer with diesel engine!

    5* from Bidone

  • These were quite common many years ago, not so now with Health and safety measures. You can still find Petter Diesel engines very easily. Thanks for watching and rating.

  • sounds very nice

  • Thanks, it's a very good work horse...

  • how does it lubricate? does it have an oil pump or a splash stick at the bottom of piston rod? whats the rpm?

    thank you

  • I've never stripped it down, but Im certain it has a mechanical oil pump that feeds all the necessary moving parts with oil.

RPM is around the 1000 - 1500 mark. It is slightly variable but basically set at around 1500 rpm mark....

  • Ha!! I live in Russia that please don't tell me what is "very cold" XDD

  • This is very cold in England!

  • How old is this mixer?

  • No idea really, I was kinda hoping somebody out there might be able to tell me perhaps !!!

Having a guess I would say early 1970's but don't quote me. Im up for any info on this and my other one ( Orange one )

  • When cranking dont have ur thumb on oppsite side to fingers, use ur palm, this saves a broken thumb when it kicks back!

  • Diesels don't kick back.

  • they kick back like any internal combustion engine if fuel ignites when piston is traveling up the bore at to slower a speed, injection occurs before tdc to compensate for speed of piston as fuel burns at a set rate, if injection is advanced or u crank to slow it can fire and try to go backwards.

  • Im no expert but Im lead to believe they are capable of running the wrong way...??

  • The only one I've seen to run backwards was a Roots opposed piston diesel in an old Commer truck, and in thirty years of working on diesels I've yet to see one kick back because of combustion- bounce against compression yes, when the cranking speed is too low.

  • So is that the reason why you can easily break your thumb when cranking over if you don't hold the starting handle correctly..??

  • Yes-don't allow your thumb to oppose your fingers as you would naturally do, keep it beside your fingers.

  • Thanks for all your input, much appreciated.... :-))

  • -3 degrees F? or C?

  • -3 Degrees C

  • That's not cold. ;)

  • It is for England !!

  • I'm jealouse,i'd love one of them :>D

Is there a throttle for adjusting the r.p.m or is set/fixed for just the one speed?

  • Very cool video. I'm a fan of small and old diesels. Great Job!

  • Thanks glad you liked it. Have you seen my Petter 3 wet cold start ? You may like that one too.

  • I'll take a look sometime.

  • That's pretty cool!

  • old girl is obviously well maintained, cool video

  • Thankyou, you should see my other Petter 3mixer video the orange one being started if you like this one.

  • cacuüm = Vacuüm !

  • Nice to see where this engine was used for. Our Petter was used to make the cacuüm in a milking machine. I did see setups where they where installed to pump water or make some electric energy, but never like this one in a mixer... Tnx for the movie !

    Peter.

  • geez thats a good runner its cold here in dublin too with snow on the nearby mountains.

  • It's a better runner than I am on a cold morning :-)

  • Good old Petters! You can always count on them! I always give the one in my boat a few swings on the handle first too, for the same reason.:-) Doug

  • You can say that again, this one never fails to start no matter what. Thanks
