I remember being baffled as to why the theme song of this show wasn't in English when I was a child. It didn't occur to me until I was an adult that of course it was a French show, and I had simply seen the version with the American dub. As an Asterix fan, I was interested to see a member of the Goscinny family was involved in it's creation.

It's originally a french comic. :) So this version you see is pretty much the first animated version of Lucky Luke.

But just like Tintin and many others it was good enough to get translated all around the globe.. You watched Lucky Luke too as a kid? ;)

I used to watch this in German. Same intro music, and hilarious. When I went back to the USA, I wondered why we didn't have this cartoon. Luke's horse and dog were the funniest; the horse would make funny comments once in a while and was smarter than the criminals.

They did back in the mid 1980's (not 1908"s my typo!) I think Hanna-Barbera had a series of animated specials based on the Lucky Luke comics that aired in the mid 1980's at the same time H-B were animating another popular Beligan comic series The Smurfs!
